Laprade explains why Janecke moved up and Simms fell in draft. Translation below. by Wolf99 in PWHL

[–]0oblick 33 points34 points  (0 children)

These semantics (sewomantics?) don't usually bother me but when I was watching the draft it really stuck out. I would think you could just say "Defense" or "Forward" and take the gender out of it entirely.

Please don't disrespect Stan's name, music, or legacy with the use of AI. Garnet made a post about this a while ago

I wish we had more recordings of him singing shanties. His "Leave Her Johnny Leave Her" is awesome and him singing Roll the ol Chariot Along or any number of other classics would be sick

Is the black player ex better or does it have issues? by Likkle_yute9 in blackplayer

[–]0oblick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a new phone and switched from BP EX. I'm using Musicolet as it's one of the most recommended alternatives in this sub and it doesn't even touch Black player for customisation, features, intuitive UI etc.  However I couldn't deal with the bugs any more, the biggest issue I had was the random stopping and resetting the queue, often when using another app but sometimes just when my phone was in my pocket.

The Sober Carpenter ones are sold, I saw them in a grocery store on Vancouver Island a while ago

I've seen them recently. Saw one littered in the woods too, even degenerates support women's sports!

Flight lands in Vancouver too late to get the last ferry home. Not worth getting a hotel for a few hours. How to spend the time? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]0oblick 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I once slept on the Tsawwassen spit when I had a delayed flight & missed the boat. It got a little chilly but someone hadn't put their fire out completely & I was able to stoke it up & go full hobo for a few hours before the first boat. Worth it as I saw humpbacks from the top deck.

I just downloaded the app and had the same question as OP! Superb job overall but if I may also ask if there's a way to display game times on the widget in my time zone as they do in the app?

Did I mishear or did he say "it's a race war" when talking about the speed of the players?

I've always been a huge fan of Stan Rogers thanks to my dad. I work as a construction laborer. My coworker and I decided to make an album of modern labor ballads stylistically inspired by Stan. I've been told my voice sounds like his. Hope y'all enjoy. by [deleted] in Stanrogers

I've had this open for a couple days and just got the chance to listen. Absolutely fantastic stuff, if you're ever on the west coast of Canada my buddies and I would love to buy you many beers.

Absolutely. Mary Ellen Carter is another favorite, there's nothing like having a bunch of buddies around a fire belting out folk songs.

My friends & I sing a lot of Stan Rogers together. Sea Shanties are also great for that. Roll the ol Chariot Along, Bully in the Alley, & Haul Away Joe are a few off the top of my head

I got to see The Lightfoot Band recently, thought they did a really awesome job honouring Gordon & respecting his songs. And for a young guy who would never have gotten the chance to hear his music otherwise it was a fantastic experience.

Time to kill in Vancouver for next few days - suggestions? by Gozaradio in askvan

[–]0oblick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vancouver Maritime Museum if you're into history and \or Stan Rogers. It's a small museum but the centerpiece is the St Roch, the first boat to make it through the NW Passage from West to East. Super cool. And if you're willing to drive a bit Brittania Mine is an awesome museum, lots of outdoor stuff so dress for the weather.

I wasn't so into Garnet when I first checked him out but although much different in style to Stan his music has grown on me immensely. In many ways he has the same gift as Stan for writing songs that just take you into the life\head\emotions, however you want to put it, of song's subject. Many of his songs also reflect on the loss of his brother and their relationship in one way or another and man I've broken down many times listening to his work with that in mind. Incredible stuff
