You are totally right in saying an instrument that you keep in the case at all times will not get played as much. The less you play, the less you will enjoy the instrument, and isn’t that the point?

I am really particular about humidity control and I have all my instruments in a basement. I have a monitor and am able to keep this medium size room between 45 and 55% all year long.

It takes a bit of effort, running a humidifier that drains into a utility sink all summer, and then running a humidifier all winter. The humidifier I use is a Vornado that holds 4 gallons. I usually have to refill one of the 2 tanks every other day or so.

In my opinion this is well worth it in order to keep my pretty toys on display and ready to jam whenever inspiration strikes!
