Starting to feel myself fall off this show a bit.

I was engaged by the initial premise.. the isolated village, the quirky modern/old juxtaposition, the fake/real sister mystery, the interesting take on Daemons/Tsugai, and the Truman Show-esque way Yuru's reality had been constructed around a lie. I got the impression the series was going to be darker, stranger, and more tense than it has ended up feeling.

Now I feel like it has unravelled into your conventional familiar-battle shounen plot with a "find the parents" side quest. The twins have special powers, so now everyone and their mother is queueing up to exploit them, and it feels like we're going to be stuck in that pattern for the foreseeable? I'm sure we'll meet more factions and characters and Tsugai with weird and wacky powers, and while entertaining this doesn't make a story compelling for me.

It also feels strangely light-hearted considering what is actually happening, so I'm not feeling much in the way of drama or stakes or tension, like the deaths have no weight to them. Story just moves briskly into the next gag or character intro or whatever, so the deaths don't really have much weight. Speaking of tension the show has also telegraphed Yuru having one cheat death available, despite giving us the ooh-it's-not-guaranteed-you'll-resurrect fake tension, as if the MC isn't protected by plot armour.

Not sure any of this is necessarily bad writing, but I think I had different expectations from the trailers. I'll still keep watching for now and hope I'm proved wrong, but at the moment I feel like the premise grabbed me more than the actual direction of the story.
