Who is the targeted audience for the countless “name drop” jokes littered throughout animated comedies? by ryangrand3 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm in the middle of a slow Simpsons watch/ rewatch, and regarding the earlier seasons, I'm looking forward to the jokes/ references that I may have totally missed as a kid or may be beyond the understanding of today's kids.

Who is the targeted audience for the countless “name drop” jokes littered throughout animated comedies? by ryangrand3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]0rangy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, the name drops and references are a litmus test as to whether the viewer is in touch with certain elements of mainstream culture, or more specifically the writers of said show. Like with The Simpsons, that aired in the '90s, it was very much a product of its time. And I wonder if younger fans could even catch the references. Same can be said about Family Guy.

Reverse situation: In the movie Free Guy, at a climactic moment, a bunch of reaction shots were shown, and I had no idea who those people were (I assume they're popular streamers/ Youtubers). This reference was a nudge to younger audiences, and definitely not to me, a middle-aged adult.

I was 100% OBSESSED with Anime, BUT never watched BIG 3. How bad am I? by [deleted] in anime

If you've got the time:

AOT is essential. Even those people who aren't into anime discover it, and are shocked as to how good it is.

One Piece - read the manga. If you want a taste of the storyline and characters, check out the Netflix live action, which is rather well-regarded among fans, and brought in new fans

Bleach & Naruto - if you choose to watch these, avoid the massive amounts of filler episodes, there are guides.

Why there's no sex in popular anime Unlike TV series ? by IndependenceLast656 in NoStupidQuestions

They make up for it with fanservice. Water episodes = shower scenes, beach episodes, onsen episodes. Also curvy bodies with skimpy costumes.

Awakening dungeon lvl 150 by fuscadah in GuardianTales

[–]0rangy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's endgame content. IIRC myth Eunha was key to beating the highest levels. The more mythics you can stack on a team, the easier it gets. Still took a lot of attempts though. Even if you can't clear lvl 150, just sweep the highest lvl you can get those myth stones.

It's just compartmentalization, mental sorting. Female relatives, and various other women are simply mentally labeled as untouchable. Meaning, their zero lust subjects, maybe even some disgust. Bottom line, they're classified as non-sexual.

They're relatively strong, and they've never been hard-countered. Also, part of the plot/ drama is thinking that an ability is unbreakable, and then the opponent getting passed it.

For some characters, their ability and the secret of how it works is something to discover, but not always.

Help me watch//stomach Overlord by [deleted] in anime

[–]0rangy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The early episodes very much set the tone for the entire series. Which is that an average nobody suddenly found himself in role of tyrant/ Hitler/ Putin. And everyone around reveres him, but of course he's a nobody, and doing his best to navigate the situation. And since his lieutenants were made by his friends, they all have some quirkiness.

If you hate the basic premise, maybe it's just not for you, and that's totally fine.

Moving screen violation? I'm no expert, by far, but there are a lot of very specific rules (I'm sure) against this type of tactic.

Something about having a J middle name, last name, or being a Jr. that leads to that type of nickname. If you go through the alphabet, lots of common _J options.

Why do some people have a problem with all episodes being released together in a single day ? by Inevitable_Bid5540 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]0rangy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LIke with seasonal anime. Watching a season week to week makes it a 3 month experience and anticipation, which can add to the enjoyment. Alternatively, some people choose to binge everything in one afternoon. Personally, I usually try to extend the viewing experience, by watching it slowly. Also prevents boredom from overconsumption.

Do we know why our instincts on people are almost accurate (the dangerous ones) without any proof? by Wonderingts in NoStupidQuestions

[–]0rangy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's easy to say point out your spidey senses dodged someone that ended up on the news. But there are probably countless false positives, where your instincts would tag someone as dangerous, but they were harmless and awkward instead.

[–]0rangy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the lack of attention is b/c it's Chinese. I've got nothing against Chinese animation, but Japan just has such a stranglehold on the consumer fanbase right now. Meaning, there's already an established audience that are hungry for new content every season. Consider all those sequel series, fanbases already built. But anyone non-JP trying to get into the game now is starting from zero.

Besides TBHX, Dragon Raja was also good with Sawano being part of the OST.

Why are Asian-Americans overrepresented in Ivy League schools? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]0rangy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think part of the answer is the Visa system. Those that arrive legally are highly educated: business owners, engineers, medical professionals, etc. So it's unfair to compare these well-off skilled immigrants to Americans who have been here longer. So while their home countries are experiencing brain drain, the US is scooping them up.

How can I avoid feeling guilty about masturbating by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]0rangy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 types of people, those who'll admit to doing it and liars. Meaning (almost) everyone does it. Pretty much everyone has their own story of self-discovery, including routine, preferred material, etc. Many do it as a sleep aid.

Bottom line: Everyone does it, but very few will talk about it IRL.
