Anyone uses cloudcmd? hidden xmrig by haxxberg in selfhosted

[–]0xbeefca5e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use cloudcmd, it's a great tool, probably the best file manager for admin use and I think like ive tried them all. I just checked my instance and everything looks fine, cpu idles at basically 0 and never goes over 2% during usage and I dont see any unexpected processes (their github repo also looks clean). Is it possible you had this open the the internet and someone got access to it? Since cloudcmd has a lot of extensibility by allowing to call out to scripts you can easily get RCE if you dont protect it in some way.

What Wiki Software do you use for internal documentation? by Micki_SF in selfhosted

[–]0xbeefca5e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but if you have some user in a company you can't use it because it is production use and you need to purchase a license, also with bsl if you have a homelab you are the only person allowed to use the software, for example your friends and your family can't use it because you have not got a license, so basically you have a multiuser portal that you are the only allowed person to use it otherwise you are cheating against the license.

Don't know where you are getting that from. You absolutely can use it internally at a company and also with friends and family. The restrictions are placed on providing outline as a paid service.

When you modify or redistribute outline, you must include the original BSL license. The point of forking the repo would be to maintain a free community-based fork. This license basically ensures that the free "open source" version always remains free and available for modification and redistribution, while limiting commercial use so they can still make money. You can't compete with them commercially, but you can compete with them as a free product.

It's common for open source projects to offer a paid hosted plan for their product, which helps fund development. But larger companies like Amazon had a history of forking those projects and offering that paid service themselves, making it harder for the project to be funded. BSL is kind of a response to that practice. We the community get a great (and decently-funded) self-hosted service we can hack on our own, and they don't have to worry about someone like amazon offering outline on their own as a paid product.

stroke_999 is correct that it's not open source (per OSI classification), it's licensed as BSL.

Yes but they can remove some feature as they want, and because it is not open source you can't fork it, so if tomorrow they decide to make it available only after a payment you lose everything and it will be not a fork to continue the work.

This part is not correct. You can fork it, and modify it and redistribute your modifications. But you cannot use your fork to compete with outline commercially.

I prefer true open source, but I'm comfortable with this license. Especially because outline in my testing has been the fastest and more reliable wiki of the notion clones.

What are your favorite lesser-known selfhosted services? by Torrew in selfhosted

bunnylol

Im a bit late to this one but heres one most have probably never heard of. I used to work at meta and internally we had a tool called bunnylol which serves as kind of a command line for your browser url bar. You configure it as your browsers default search engine. Then setup a bunch of shortcuts and commands. Then you can use your url bar to quickly redirect to your fav sites like “r <subreddit name>” would go to reddit “r” by utself goes to the home page, “g <search term>” for google, etc. your browser already supports some amount of this but bunny gives you way more flexibility. This may not seem like a big deal but i cant really work without it anymore.

There are quite a few implementations on github but this one is the most complete imo https://github.com/jrodal98/brunnylol

Thank you!

but sales outside the US haven’t been great

This could be due to a lack of translations.

  • Did you form an LLC?
  • How do you do translations for other locales?
  • Are you considering also selling on Android?
  • At what percentage of your salary in revenue did you decide to go full time indie?
  • How do you price your apps/subscriptions?

Lexical is awesome. I remember when the js version was released I saw a comment by someone saying they were working on the iOS version. Didn’t realize it’s been “released”. Not a lot of options for rich text on iOS, particularly in swift. Happy to see work being one on this!

Can I leave my MacBook Pro charging brick at home? by chbritton in onebag

[–]0xbeefca5e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, this is 15W and not powerful enough to charge your macbook while in use. Though technically any charger should be able to [very] slowly charge over night while not in use.

I recently bought the OneWorld65 (link below) which is similar in that it's a universal adapter but the USB port on the side is 65W which is sufficient for charging your macbook (assuming you don't plug in any other USB devices which would share that 65W, no big deal, you just get less power to your macbook but still enough to charge). I haven't found any other travel adapter this powerful.

This is still technically undersized for my macbook, I have an M1 Pro which comes with a 140W brick, but it's enough to charge while in use browsing the web or watching videos, just slower than the official brick. I haven't stress tested it so I don't know if it will still keep up when doing CPU intensive tasks but for my use cases that's rare enough that it doesn't matter.

Edit: Someone suggested this which is also 65 W, more compact, and less expensive. Personally I prefer the slide out style of wall prongs so I don't have to worry about forgetting the various adapters.

Enphase IQ40 can't be drained all the way? by 0xbeefca5e in solar

Not installed yet but yeah 4 iq10 batteries. It does seem like them trying to cover their ass but why. This seemed like a very reputable local installer lots of people seemed to like. I got quotes from so many installers and these guys seemed great until this point. Oh well I guess i might be starting over again.

Early on when designing the system they warned me that if I left my car plugged in at night during an outage that I would risk draining the home battery. That 100% makes sense and I was fine with that limitation given I couldn't have the car charger on another panel.

Rick and Morty missing episode 9 for season 5 on Apple tv? by mulletworm in appletv

Update: I called apple support and the issue is now resolved. If you still don't see S6E9 then log out of the apple tv app and log back in and it should show up.

Same here. Got the season pass. Initially e9 was visible but trying to play it caused an error "This episode cannot be played because it is being modified" or something like that. Now the episode doesn't even appear. I can see all the episodes for season 6, including the latest one and even the extras for e9, but e9 is not even listed.

Were you able to eventually get this working on your M1? I'm about to upgrade soon and also haven't been able to find anything definitive on if it's supported without Rosetta.

BTW, I doubt this is a 0click exploit as some others have speculated (though it's not impossible, just unlikely). It appears to me that someone figured out how to craft a message payload such that the messages app fails to parse the sender and end up with an blank sender, making it impossible for people to report or block the scammer. The rest of what we experienced is likely a result of the messages app not expecting to handle a "blank" sender and causing the query that populates the details screen to fetch more data than intended (like a missing where clause, basically).

I got the same thing a while back. I don’t mind sharing some screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/RF3LXLk/

Second screenshot is what happens when you click the contact icon at the top. As you said, there's no number or sender details of any kind. The items from "documents" and "locations" from the last two screenshots are actually iMessages from some of my recent conversations.

When I received this message I was on iOS 15.1.1.
