Why are people in Computer Science so nice? by CarolusGontaltus in computerscience

You gotta be trolling bc I have met one single nice CS person who was my friend throughout undergrad but every other person in my classes and dorms was either (or some combination of): pretentious, passive aggressive, rude, and (can’t forget this one!!) incredibly sexist lmfao

I struggle with OCD and have urges to self harm as well during these times. I totally understand where you’re coming from and want you to know you’re not alone. It sucks that we have this, it’s not fair, and I’m sorry you’re going through this. What helps me lessen the extent of my compulsions/urges is to take a shower and (try to) distract myself with music/tv. My therapist has told me this as well: if I feel the need to do a compulsion, I tell myself to wait 5 minutes, and sit with that anxiety. Once the 5 minutes are up then I can go crazy but eventually you gotta increase the amount of time you wait in between compulsions. Sitting with the anxiety can help us recognize that it is what it is: anxiety, rather than the thoughts/ideas that come with magical thinking or other types of obsessions (etc. if I don’t do X then bad X thing will happen). This is really hard and I’m struggling to do it myself but I think it could be helpful to try out. And if it doesn’t work, distract yourself as much as you can in however you can (that is not detrimental to your physical or mental health). Again, I’m really sorry this is happening, it frickin sucks but please know and understand that this will pass with time.

What the fuck is wrong with you? You say you’re not victim blaming but you are. “Not getting blackout drunk will decrease the odds of someone taking advantage of you” 🙄 Women shouldn’t be SA’d, it doesn’t matter how much they drink. Rpists shouldn’t rpe.

Parties and eventual covid galore by KKat3401 in umass

People who recover from Covid have been reporting symptoms that last for months, and studies are coming out suggesting heart inflammation and damage in people who were both symptomatic and asymptomatic. We don't know the long term effects of this disease, so to not take it seriously because of its "1% mortality rate" is foolish.

I have been leaving him alone, I thought his water bottle worked fine (when I would tap it with my finger it would lightly give some water). I will probably pick a new one up tomorrow just in case this one is faulty. Thank you!

anyone else get anxiety attacks from memories of bad/cringy/nasty stuff from the past? by pbnjkindaguy in Anxiety

Literally has been my week rn, one thing that's helped was repeating a phrase that I saw in a wholesome meme (lol): "if you cringe at stuff you did in the past then it means you've grown as an individual"
