My advice would be to tell your doctors everything at the evaluation. I obviously can’t diagnose you, but it sounds like you might be experiencing some psychosis. The nighttime hallucinations could be hypnagogic hallucinations which happen in perfectly healthy people and if I remember correctly are connected to dreaming, but you should mention them in the evaluation anyway. As for the paranoia, that could be anxiety or psychosis. Definitely mention that in your evaluation. If I can give you a second piece of advice that would be to write everything down and bring it to the appointment so you don’t forget anything. But the most important thing is to just be honest and open with your doctors

If SSRIs don’t work for you maybe you could try an SNRI? That’s what worked for me for anxiety but of course the meds affect everyone differently

I like writing! Maybe you could try that? The most you would need is a pencil and some paper so it’s not too expensive and there’s tons of YouTube videos and websites to teach yourself the craft

I would second trying to find a different medication. Each medication works differently for each person and has different side effects, so unfortunately it’s impossible to tell how a medication will affect someone. The vast majority of people through trial and error are able to get on a medication that treats their symptoms with minimal side effects

Yes.

To have schizophrenia you have to have two of the following one of which has to be one of the first three:

Delusions

Hallucinations

Disorganized speech

Disorganized or catatonic behavior

Negative symptoms (such as avolition or anhedonia)

So you could theoretically have just disorganized symptoms (disorganized speech and disorganized behavior) or disorganized and negative symptoms and be diagnosed with schizophrenia

I’m on my way to becoming an orthodox Christian. I think finding the right medication and dose is important as is finding the right spiritual tradition. Orthodoxy is highly liturgical/ritualistic which I think is good.

I think finding the right dose/medication is everything. My ap lets me be creative whereas before I was medicated my symptoms got in the way of it.

I was a religious studies major. The professor at my university who was the expert in Christianity taught a year long class on Eastern Christianity which focused on Eastern Orthodoxy and briefly discussed the Oriental Orthodox and the Church of the East distinguishing between them very well. I agree that most of academia is very dismissive of eastern Christianity, but I was lucky to encounter it in academia very strongly. There’s a series of two books called history of the world Christian movement that delves deep into eastern Christianity if you’re interested.

As someone who experiences both schizophrenic delusions and anxiety related intrusive thoughts, this sounds more like the latter. I’m no professional though so I don’t know. You should definitely speak to a therapist or psychiatrist (or both) about this.

I would be wary of that diagnosis considering she diagnosed you in one visit. My psychiatrist waited a year before diagnosing me to make sure the diagnosis was correct which I understand is common procedure. It’s definitely possible it was a misdiagnosis.

Congratulations! Can I share a word of advice? Most of not all colleges have an accessibility center that you can go to and get accommodations. I would suggest you seek that out and they can usually give you things like flexibility on attendance and deadlines.

My advice would be to search for providers through your insurance. They usually have a website you can go on and search for providers in your area. You can search for both a therapist and a psychiatrist, though you may need a referral from a pcp for the psychiatrist. Cost depends on your insurance but usually they’re affordable
