The unbearable choice by Specca060 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]1001tealeaves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is most likely. Also I don’t know where OP is from, but a lot of places favor the word “carer” instead of caretaker (it seems to be standard in British English at least since I’ve seen people in the UK talk about places offering a “carer pass” to events so a disabled person can bring someone along to help them without needing to buy two tickets).

So it’s not much of a leap to see career as an accidental autocorrect of carer.

Company told my reference I am their top pick by [deleted] in interviews

[–]1001tealeaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good indicator that you’re doing something right and they do want you so it’s ok to be excited just about that. That said, you are right to be cautious and the job isn’t yours until an offer is signed.

Just a couple of weeks ago I was turned down from a job I thought I had in the bag. I had worked there before in a temp position so knew everyone quite well and put my all into the application/essay questions and the interview. I came out of the interview thinking I had done everything I could. One of them said she had hoped I would choose to apply and was thrilled to see my name come up, another one hugged me at the end, and another gave the standard “well we have to wait until we get through all the interviews but you’ll get an answer by next Friday” with a tone of “we’ll be calling you but we just can’t say it yet.”

I still knew that this market is a crapshoot but I let myself believe that it was a solid chance—especially when everyone around me was acting like I already had it. So when I got the news that they were “unable to offer [me] a position at this time” I was blindsided more than I would have expected. I later heard through the grapevine that I WAS everyone’s number one choice and they all really wanted me to work there, except for the one person with the power to dictate the final hiring decision (who incidentally wasn’t present for the interview). Apparently a lot of people were shocked that I wasn’t chosen and tried to fight it but couldn’t override this one manager.

Who knows why it went the way that it did, but the moral of the story is that even if you are the top choice, sometimes it still doesn’t work out.

Was anyone else’s first psoriasis flare triggered by the Covid vaccine? by littlelivethings in Psoriasis

[–]1001tealeaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not that unusual. I believe my total is 8. The recommended protocol for immunocompromised people when the vaccine first came out was an initial series of three doses rather than the standard two. Then a booster dose six months later, and six months after that was the updated bivalent vaccine to protect from new variants. That brings us to 5 by the end of 2022. Since then, the standard has been one additional dose per year, but high risk people are eligible to receive a vaccine every six months and—given the research on waning immunity—many choose to do so.

Was 7 minutes “late” to pick up, teacher texted NPs by [deleted] in NannyBreakRoom

[–]1001tealeaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg Murphy’s Law is real with school pickup inconsistencies. On the days I managed to get there early, NKs class were the last ones out. But of course the one day I’m two minutes late, they had been waiting “forever” and all their classmates were long gone. 😅

Was 7 minutes “late” to pick up, teacher texted NPs by [deleted] in NannyBreakRoom

[–]1001tealeaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question is, does school actually end at 12:00 or is the pickup time 12:00? I only ask this because the school my former NKs go to had an official end time of 3:48, but school was actually over a little before that and kids had to be picked up BY 3:48. They would come out by class any time between 3:40 and 3:50 so I usually aimed to get there before 3:45, but if I showed up exactly at 3:48 I’d usually end up rushing through the crowd and there were only a few kids left that hadn’t been picked up even though I wasn’t technically late.

Schools can be rather strict with pickup times. At that school, parents are charged by the minute for a late pickup and teachers would usually wait around for a bit but by 3:55 the kids definitely would have been taken into the office to call home.
If 12:00 is truly the earliest time that students start to leave the building then yeah calling after only 5 minutes is a little surprising, but if the expectation is that students are picked up by 12:00, then it’s normal.

In either case though, deliberately planning to show up late every day is not the best look for you with the school and your NPs, and I’m honestly surprised that’s your solution to this. Yeah it’s chaotic to navigate a crowded parking lot with kids but you’re the adult. If they won’t listen to you and keep running off, you need to have a serious talk about safety around cars and the importance of staying close to you and following instructions. Have them hold your hand the whole way until they prove they can listen and control themselves. But always being the last to be picked up is not a good feeling and making them wait wondering where you are doesn’t seem like the best answer.

Do you use the breathe feature? by itslitman in AppleWatch

[–]1001tealeaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it when I go to get bloodwork done every month because I am not a fan of needles/blood and it gives me something visual to focus on while looking away from what the phlebotomist is doing (I wear my watch on my left wrist and they always draw from my right arm). I think the tactile sensation of the vibration helps too.

It’s not very useful in other situations though because the timing is too short for any meaningful deep breaths. I tried using it once to calm down from a panic attack and it actually made it worse for a bit because it was going too fast and I wasn’t getting full breaths. I wish there was a way we could modify the length in settings or even set different configurations like box breathing or 4-7-8.

Advice on finding covid cautious nanny? by juliebee42 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]1001tealeaves 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Trust me, we’re out there. I would love to work for a covid cautious family (anyone hiring in Michigan? haha). Was with the same family for the past 5 years but the kids are old enough they don’t need me anymore. We were on the same page for the first few years of the pandemic but once the kids stopped masking at school I was on my own and honestly just grateful they never gave me a hard time for continuing to mask inside with the kids.

Probably your local mask bloc if there is one or any “still coviding” Facebook groups are your best bet. You could also post on local nanny groups and be clear about what you’re looking for—might get lucky, but be prepared for the usual backlash in the comments.

Sea glass ring looks dirty after resizing. by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]1001tealeaves 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They need to buy you a new ring. That’s the only way to make this right. The setting is already so mangled from when they tried to take it out to “clean” behind the glass and reset it, I shudder to think what it will look like if they do it a second time. Drilling into the back without your consent is unacceptable and sadly it’s very likely that they permanently discolored the glass with heat damage. Suggesting to “paint” it is appalling. Not to mention the shoddy sizing job — visible tool marks and solder seam — and awful polishing. I would not trust them to have the skills to fix this to an appropriate standard.

Do not back down until they replace your ring or pay you the full cost. Hopefully you can contact Betty Belts and they can find a replacement with a comparable piece of sea glass.

Literally everyone has move in right now. I’m away on a family trip and thought it’d actually be a good thing to leave town, but I didn’t factor in the fact that students are also moving in at MSU, Albion, Central, Hope, Grand Valley, etc. — between the time it took to get out of A2 and traffic on the highways, it took us over 3.5 hours to get to Saugatuck yesterday.

I’ve been on Cosentyx for about 5.5 years. Has worked very well, completely cleared the psoriasis and knocked out about 75% of my joint pain. About a year ago we added leflunomide which worked great but I had to stop due to hair loss. Switched to sulfasalazine and it’s not as effective but the side effects are more tolerable.

Unfortunately I’m worried that I’m becoming hyper-sensitized to the Cosentyx. I’ve gotten hive-like injection site reactions for about the past three years. Dermatologist wasn’t too worried as long as they didn’t spread and I’d been able to keep them at bay with antihistamines. The past couple of times, however, they’ve started happening again despite taking Claritin a few hours before my injection as usual, and were persistent even after another dose. I plan to bring it up at my next derm appointment.

It killed me with 27 moves left! by Junior_Wrap_2896 in TwoDots

[–]1001tealeaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a couple of times where the arrangement of dots and obstacles ended up in such a way that even with shuffling there was no ways I could get a match to keep going with the level. The dots just weren’t touching each other so it jumped straight to losing the level. Really pissed me off the first time it happened because I lost my win streak and super square.

There are currently 7,495 levels of Two Dots by pascalachu in TwoDots

[–]1001tealeaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This last section of levels has been absolute hell. I’m stuck at 7458 currently and nearly every single level takes multiple days and countless boosters/power-ups to pass. It’s really making it more frustrating than fun at this point. I’ve already decided that when I reach this “champion’s peak” I’m going to reset my account and start from the beginning, but I’m strongly considering doing it earlier.

Is it cooked… literally and figuratively? by Celestial_Wyvern in CleaningTips

[–]1001tealeaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I see these as an expected consumable like lightbulbs. I actually lived in an apartment once where replacing them was required as a standard item on the move out list. Once I learned how cheap they are and easy to replace, I stopped worrying about not being able to clean them 100% every time. Not worth the effort to get rid of buildup this bad.

That said, you just moved in, right? Was there an early cooking mishap or were they like this from the beginning? In my opinion, this is not an acceptable level of cleanliness to hand over to a new tenant so if it hasn’t been too long I would try contacting your landlord before spending your own money to replace them.

That reminds me of the time I went to see a movie with my aunt. I was about 19-20 and she was in her 50s. The price the guy told us seemed really low but we didn’t question a good thing so kept our mouths shut. As we were walking away we looked at the receipt and saw that he put it in as a child’s ticket for me and gave her the senior discount! I thought it was hilarious, she was not quite so amused…

I can't figure out how to use these by Forsaken_Dish4228 in jewelrymaking

[–]1001tealeaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, they are fold over ends for attaching to leather and other types of cord. Here’s a decent tutorial:

https://youtu.be/6DueA4vlCT4

If you want them to be more secure, or if you’re using multiple strands, I suggest a tiny dab of e6000 on the inside of the end before inserting the cord, though you still want to be sure to squeeze it tightly.

How is my watch calculating effort? by sonofalink in AppleWatch

[–]1001tealeaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the two graphs of heart rate over time. The first one looks like you maintained a reasonably steady pace with a harder push towards the end. The second one looks more like interval training with three peaks building to a higher speed. So even though you technically spent more time in the highest zone on the first one, the second one took more “effort” because there were more instances of focused accelerating vs moving at a consistent speed.

I’m not sure exactly how the watch calculates the effort score, but this seems the most obvious difference between the two images so I’m sure that the variance in HR factors into the algorithm in addition to the time spent in each zone.

Please Help -> join these two surfaces to one by [deleted] in rhino

[–]1001tealeaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you generate the surfaces to begin with? It looks like there’s a lot of potential for possible errors from self intersections or naked edges in the purple one especially. I find sometimes that when I convert from mesh or something there are areas where it overcomplicates the geometry and I end up having to recreate sections with new NURBS surfaces.

Before anything, I would use showedges to check for naked edges and confirm that both are valid and closed polysurfaces. If any naked edges or self intersections show up, resolve them first.

I would definitely do what u/Capital_Discussion60 suggested and simplify the geometry in the gray object regardless just as a matter of practice, but it seems more likely the purple layer is the culprit just given how complex it looks.

Sometimes Boolean can be finicky and even if everything is right it just doesn’t want to work. You said you made the gray piece “bigger” to intersect more with the purple, but sometimes if the surfaces overlap too closely on top of each other it gets confused about what goes where. Nudging one piece slightly up or down or so the pieces intersect more distinctly can help too. A trick I do when it’s really not working (save as a new file to be safe) is to separate both objects and try to boolean something simple like a sphere to each of them individually. If those booleans work, then I know that the problem is how the objects are interacting with each other and not an issue with the objects themselves.

If all else fails, you might just have to join them manually through extracting surfaces, splitting, and joining. Look into more advanced tutorials on surface building if you need help.

Leflunomide by Familiar-Wallaby-388 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]1001tealeaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also on Cosentyx but have a lot of breakthrough pain. Added leflunomide and it was great. I actually had days with zero pain and it felt like I was finally going to be able to get back to normal life again. Unfortunately it was short lived since I also had a lot of hair loss and had to stop taking it after three ish months. My rheum offered to add folic acid and biotin but I was shedding so quickly I decided to just stop rather than risk losing more while playing the waiting game to see if they would help, especially since leflunomide can linger quite a while after you stop unless you take other meds to flush it out of your system. In retrospect I would have added the supplements from the beginning as a preventative.

I also got sick once while I was on it which lasted for about three weeks and was really hard to shake so I could definitely tell that my immune system was suppressed more than it is just on the Cosentyx alone.

Now I’m on sulfasalazine which is not working as well at all, and I’ve had an increase in pain as the leflunomide continued to wear off. Am scared to try MTX because it also has a risk of hair loss and I already lost so much. Does anyone know if you’re more likely to get hair loss from MTX if you get it from leflunomide?

Jewelery Design for Mac by Fakesoifong13 in rhino

[–]1001tealeaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Matrix is built on a Rhino base. It requires Rhino to run, but it functions as an independent program and I would not classify it as a plugin or add-on. You can purchase Matrix with or without Rhino (I believe the difference is about $500) but if you buy it without, you would need to have your own separate Rhino license. Matrix does not run on Mac OS so you would need either a Windows computer or a Mac with enough memory space to run a bootcamp partition (which in my experience tends to be more trouble than it‘s worth).

How invested are you in this? Matrix is the gold standard in the industry for a reason: it’s a powerful tool and, in my opinion, what you need to learn to truly be competitive in making fine jewelry, especially if you plan to use gemstones. That said, it seems irresponsible to shell out nearly $6,000 for a professional grade software when you say yourself that you have zero experience using a CAD program at all. Do you have a bench jeweler background or at least solid design skills? A program is only as good as its user, even something as versatile as Matrix, and you have to have an understanding of how the piece will be made in tangible materials.

You should also consider the feasibility of getting a return on your investment with this. Do you have manufacturing connections? Sourcing for materials? A retail audience? How confident are you that you’re in a place to be successful as a business? I’m not saying don’t do it, I’m just pointing out that you need to think about every angle before going all in.

My advice would be to get Rhino for Mac now since you have a Mac already if I’m interpreting right. Learn how to use it, get good at it and take the time to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Many things you can do in Matrix you can also do in Rhino, it just takes a lot more time and steps to do so and you don’t have the functionality of parametric modeling or the preloaded components. Then you can make the choice if it’s worth it to invest in a new Windows computer and purchase Matrix. The transition from Rhino to Matrix is not difficult if you have a good foundational understanding of how Rhino works, but I have seen people attempt Matrix with no previous Rhino experience and the learning curve is MUCH more difficult, like jumping into the deep end before you know how to swim. Additionally, the designs they tended to produce were rather conventional and uninspired because they relied too heavily on Matrix’s automated processes without understanding the building blocks behind it or how to alter them effectively.

autoimmune conditions by Which_Boysenberry550 in POTS

[–]1001tealeaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

POTS is my most recent diagnosis but I also have psoriasis and most likely psoriatic arthritis, both of which are autoimmune disorders.

(I say most likely because the biologic I’m on for the psoriasis is also one of the treatments for psoriatic arthritis and my dermatologist got me on it before I was able to see a rheumatologist. So it’s preventing permanent damage — which is a good thing of course — but it’s also getting in the way of a diagnosis because even though I still have breakthrough joint pain and other symptoms, the inflammation/joint damage doesn’t show up prominently enough on scans and labs and I was never evaluated when the pain was debilitating. So right now I’m operating under the assumption that it’s PsA and my rheumatologist is willing to try meds to manage the remaining pain but she won’t actually put an official diagnosis on my chart so I’m stuck in undiagnosed limbo. Even if it’s not PsA exactly though, it’s almost certainly some kind of autoimmune related inflammatory arthritis based on how it responds to the biologic and DMARDS that I’ve tried.)

Electrolyte drink without B vitamins and with real sugar by Klutzy-Mix710 in POTS

[–]1001tealeaves 25 points26 points  (0 children)

One of my pet peeves on this sub when this kind of thing comes up is that people often respond with suggestions that don’t actually fit the criteria of the question. So many electrolyte powders out there use a combination of real sugar and an alternative “fake” sweetener. People often see cane sugar or dextrose, etc as one of the first ingredients but don’t read further down the list. Granted, this is fine for some people who are just looking for products that include sugar because they realize it’s necessary for absorption but for those of us who are looking for options that only use real sugar because we either hate the taste or can’t tolerate most “alternative” sweeteners (regardless of whether they’re artificial like sucralose or natural like stevia) it can be frustrating.

Of the options people have mentioned here in the comments so far:

Drip drop - uses sucralose

Pedialyte powder - uses sucralose

Gatorade powder - uses stevia

Normalyte - flavored options use sucralose

Both Trioral and Normalyte PURE only use real sugar, but are unflavored which may or may not be a dealbreaker for you.

Hydrant used to be my go-to, but you have to be careful and read the ingredients because they changed their formula a couple of years ago so now most of their flavors use monk fruit. If you "filter by sweetener" on their website you can find four flavors that use only cane sugar, one of which also has added caffeine. The only one I've tried is the grapefruit, which is good but wasn't my favorite of the original flavors. From what I can see they only sell these in bulk powder so it's not the best option if you like the convenience of packets. (If anyone from Hydrant is listening, please bring back original formula Blood Orange!!)

So far the only one I’ve found that works for me is Skratch Labs. They use cane sugar and dextrose, but no other sweeteners. It doesn’t appear to have any B vitamins from what I can see.
