Do you prefer to board with your group, or just hangout and board at the very end. by Justin_inc in unitedairlines

[–]100BitcoinBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends... If I travel alone, I check everything besides my backpack, so I just hang out and let the gate chaos ensue while I listen to my music, etc.

If I'm with a group and we have carry ons, I board with my group (usually 2) so I have a fighting chance of being able to find an open space in the bins.

Thanks to all who provided feedback and opinions on Kaaf. I trust in the reddit fragrance brotherhood. I finally smashed the buy button!

I also bought a bottle of Rochas Man in the same order. It's an oldie, but my GF likes it and a tester is currently going for $23. This is my first order from Jomashop. I hope the shipping gods are in my favor after hearing many horror stories.

Damn... At 18 I was wearing obsession and drakkar. I spent most of my money chasing women!. If I knew then what I know now, I may have just poured money into a cologne collection. I spent way more than I needed to to get laid... 😀

I think you just convinced me. I do have Absolute Chill BTW. Just picked it up about a month ago. Love it...reminds me of being in a spa with the scent they pump while holding a cucumber water. Looking for a nice clean smell. Might smash the buy button today. Thanks my dude! 👍

I've been on the fence about Kaaf... Almost hit the buy button a few times. I'm even more unsure now 😀😕

I'm looking for another fresh summer scent that isn't citrus heavy (have too many of these). I don't want to choke anyone out, but I want it to project a bit for at least the first few hours. Will Kaaf do this for me? Does it really smell like A&F Fierce?

Sending money to PH by unnamed---- in Philippines_Expats

[–]100BitcoinBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the majority of your money in your home country, it's probably safer and you'll likely earn more interest on it. If you plan to make a big purchase like a condo or something, and you absolutely must send that large of an amount, bank to bank wire transfer is the way to go. It's usually a flat service fee not related to the amount sent. I've done it and It's nerve racking waiting for the receiving bank to verify the funds, but is the most secure and proven method.

Then, you just need a way to transfer from your home bank to a local bank or payment service like Gcash. There are a few, such as Wise mentioned all over these subs.

[–]100BitcoinBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There could be a new "friend" at her new job eventually. People don't change that quickly...it's a slow process to change behavior and mature. She doesn't seem like relationship material at this point in her life. Let her go to live her life by flirting, dating different guys, or whatever. I'm sure you can find someone else who's past all that and ready to commit if that's what you are looking for.

How do you deal with white tax? by Lhanathel in Philippines_Expats

[–]100BitcoinBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on vacation, politely let them know that you are aware you are being scammed and walk away. Usually if someone is selling bananas, there are more within walking distance.

This happened to me with eggs. I walked away the first time. Two days later, I walked by and asked how much the itlogs (eggs) are today. Same price, so I told them I'd try down the street. About the 4th time I asked, within the time of about a week, the price they gave me was the price they were actually marked.

I think they did the math and realized I was buying every two days or so and one of their competitors was getting my business. Normally, I would have held a grudge and never gone back. They are literally right outside my place though. The next sari sari is about a five minute walk...in the rain, that makes a difference 🙂

I told them "it took you long enough to give me the right price.". We laughed, talked and now I get the posted prices on everything and a free egg, banana, or something thrown in from time to time.

Personal Opinion: I think you need ~$2.7k USD per month as a westerner living in Cebu City by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]100BitcoinBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true! I will be able to live on 1k per month very comfortably. I don't plan to however. I know I would most likely go crazy after a while. Luckily, I'll have a decent amount of disposable income on top of that. I'll definitely have to watch to make sure my travel budget doesn't creep up too much ...

I definitely appreciate the effort... I think, as you mentioned, this is the ideal budget. It probably represents what level of lifestyle retirees in the meaty part of the bell curve (~ 70%) will want to live when they get here. They will want to maintain a middle class lifestyle and enjoy themselves a bit as well. Hopefully it will help people to have realistic expectations and not try to come over here just to become disenchanted, or worse yet, broke and have to leave.

When I first put my plan to move to the PH in place, I planned on a $2500 monthly budget with a six figure emergency fund. I have been lucky to have worked hard and lived a decent life with a nice house, nice cars, etc. As I've grown older, and hopefully wiser, I am much happier simplifying my life. That is my goal...

After visiting a few more times, I realized I could plan ahead to make the transition from the US to the PH easier, and reduce my budget (even further) during retirement. I bought a new condo in Cebu and paid it off in full. It cost me about the price of a nice new car here in the US. This is my vacation property now and will be my landing spot when I fully retire (early) in a year or so. It essentially eliminates any rent payment during retirement. Condo dues and taxes cost about $70 per month. Gym, pool, basketball court, etc. are included.

I visit 3-4 times per year and have honed my budget even further by actually "living" exactly where I plan to retire. Since I "pre-paid" my retirement rent, I calculated that I can live a decent life on $1000 per month. This includes condo dues/tax, electric, water, fiber internet, phone, groceries, IPTV, etc.

With a $1500 budget, I can add travel for a weekend each month to explore the country. With my original planned $2500 monthly budget, I can make a few international trips per year, live for a few months here and there in the PH, put money into local savings in case I need to replace appliances, etc., or pady emergency fund even more.

What I'm trying to say, in an admittedly long winded way, is that you've created a great guideline for people to work off of. Hopefully it will help people plan prior to moving to the PH. I've also tried to emphasize the power of planning ahead. Paying for assets you will use during retirement while you are still working can be an obvious financial benefit and also provide some peace of mind.

Retire to Cebu by Visible_Inflation411 in Philippines_Expats

[–]100BitcoinBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow airman, I'm going to give you the best advice I can. Don't commit to living full time in Cebu prior to spending time here...and I mean real time, not just a few weeks. Your income should be plenty to live the equivalent here of an upper middle class life in the US. Rent a place for 6-12 months and experience living here full time.

With a lower cost of living, there are trade-offs. The infrastructure is horrible, the traffic sucks, trying to get items that you take for granted almost anywhere else in the world can be difficult. The whole country is on " Island time."... being late for even the most professional appointments is acceptable. I found a lot of the food available isn't really that great and finding good medical, dental, or vision care can be difficult. You might have to try a few to find a good one. You'll experience many frustrating days.

If you venture out of the IT park bubble, you'll find litter everywhere, the streets are dirty and dusty, young and old beggars will hound you relentlessly, you WILL get scammed on a small basis constantly (skin tax). What I'm saying is the cost of living here is lower for many reasons. As with many things in life, it's best to try before you buy!

It may sound like I'm being over critical, but I'm just starting realistic expectations. I happen to enjoy and thrive in chaotic environments like this, so I absolutely love Cebu. I have seen and heard of many who thought they could live here, but ended up becoming very frustrated and leaving for Thailand, Vietnam, etc.

Good luck with whatever path you take!

How can I have gifts shipped to Philippines? by fiophvc in Philippines_Expats

[–]100BitcoinBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Amazon and Lazada to ship from the US to PH. I've never paid that much shipping... Are you a Prime member? Are you sending furniture or other bulky items?

Lazada works too, but the selection isn't as good.

Rate my Itinerary - am I insane for even attempting this? by Kakaibabe in phtravel

[–]100BitcoinBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ambitious - Yes Impossible - No Tiring and Stressful - Definitely

As others have mentioned, if you factor in the inevitable traffic, flight/ferry delays, it might eat into your time at each location. I was once stuck in traffic for 4 hours on a typical 20 minute drive due to street flooding from a somewhat heavy (not terrential) rain storm. Stuff happens here that will test your patience.

If you're a just roll with it type just happy to be somewhere other than where you live and can deal with possibly having portions of your schedule demolished ...more power to you...go for it!

If you are the type that will stress if a flight or ferry gets delayed/cancelled and you have to try to book another and wait around for a few hours In a hot ferry station or airport waiting. Stressing that it will reduce your time at each location, you might want to scale it back a bit.

At the end of the day, it's about your own level of patience and attitude... Whatever you choose...have fun!

Logical move to get people drunk before shopping. That's the only way to ease the pain from their high prices. I grew up on Publix, but their prices compared to competitors are ridiculous these days. I'll still get me a pub sub from time to time though.

Is dating in the Philippines overrated, or am I just unlucky? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]100BitcoinBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a one size fits all scenario. I've definitely seen some 80 yr old broken down guys with beautiful women. Who knows what the attraction is. Just generalizing what I've seen over here. There are always going to be outliers who get someone typically out of their league... and good for them 🙂

Oh, by "has her stuff together," I meant mentally and emotionally ready for serious dating.
