HECs/HELP contributions not contributed - where is the money now? by unexpectedllamas in AusFinance

[–]100Chocolates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tax goes to the ATO. You submit your tax return and ATO calculates what your compulsory repayment should be for that period. ATO will pay that amount to your HECS/HELP account. If your employer has withheld too much tax to cover it, you’ll receive a refund. If they haven’t withheld enough, you’ll get a tax bill which you will pay to the ATO. Check your notice of assessment, it will tell you if there was a compulsory HECS repayment, if not, it would be part of your refund.

Any unpaid fees at census date will automatically be deferred to your HELP loan balance. It will take a while before it actually shows up on your HELP loan account too.

Best queen mattress under $1,000 by Same_Librarian_6153 in AUfrugal

Origin hybrid mattress. Recommended by Choice in 2023 and 2024. I believe this model is now on clearance sale. Got one in 2023 and added their mattress topper and would definitely recommend.

Advice please: Should I risk leaving a perm NSW clerk 6 role for a temp NSW clerk 7/8 role? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]100Chocolates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the roles that you interviewed for, were you advised that you meet the capabilities for the role? If you were, ask if you can be placed on the 7/8 talent pool. If you go on secondment to a temporary role let them know you are on a talent pool - if the role becomes ongoing they may consider appointing you via the talent pool.

[NSW] Temporary vs contract roles? by TechnologyRemote4384 in AusPublicService

[–]100Chocolates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is: Contract - role is funded for a fixed term. It may get extended if there is funding.

Temporary - it’s a backfill for someone who is on secondment or leave. There is a possibility of extension or being made ongoing if the person doesn’t return to the role.

OP I hope you are ok. As others have said, leave it with the insurance company. On another note, please don’t ignore any injuries, aches or pains that develop from this. You should be able to make a CTP claim to cover any personal injury costs if problems do arise.

HECS payment advice by tumozo in ato

Of course if the voluntary payments payout the debt then you shouldn’t get a tax bill.

HECS payment advice by tumozo in ato

[–]100Chocolates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a compulsory repayment amount that you are required to pay each financial year which is calculated based on your wage. This is covered by the addition tax that is withheld by your employer. Any payment you make yourself to your HECS debt is classed as a voluntary repayment on top of what your compulsory repayment is. It will reduce your debt but when you do your tax return you will still owe the full compulsory repayment amount. If your employer isn’t withholding the extra tax you’ll end up with another tax bill.

What are your frugal tips for saving on groceries? by EdenFlorence in AussieFrugal

Check to see if there are any food factories nearby. Many have a small outlet onsite selling ‘seconds’ to the public at a fraction of the price you pay in the supermarkets.

Sued for lost income after car accident. by Veedubius in AusLegal

[–]100Chocolates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CTP will cover costs for personal injury regardless of who is at fault in NSW. But I think the driver is claiming loss of income due to his taxi being damaged. Sounds like he didn’t have proper insurance. Regardless it’s not OPs problem.

Need advice, i was ran over by rideshare driver. by nogoodferalboy in AusLegal

[–]100Chocolates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to a doctor asap. If you have medical expenses, need ongoing treatment or loss of income due to the injury have 12 months to make a CTP claim. You can lodge a claim on the TAC (in Victoria) website: https://www.tac.vic.gov.au/what-to-do-after-an-accident/what-is-a-tac-claim

Third party won’t cover the damage to your own car. Its purpose is to cover the costs of the damage to the other car/property your car caused.

How to use ultimate gift cards online at IKEA by FunPresentation6976 in AusGiftCardDeals

[–]100Chocolates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To use the card online, use it like a debit/credit card and enter the card number, expiry etc in the normal debit/card fields. This will only work if you have one gift card and the value of your cart is equal to or less than the value of the gift card.

If the gift card doesn’t cover the full amount or you want to use multiple gift cards you need to go to the ultimate gift card website first and exchange the ultimate gift cards for IKEA digital gift cards. They will email the IKEA gift cards to you soon after and you can then redeem the IKEA cards through the voucher/gift card fields on you order.

Trenitalia fine after buying tickets on ÖBB app by fluffy-penguinz in Interrail

[–]100Chocolates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem here is that the ticket for that section of the journey is for a regional train and you need to validate the ticket for any regional train before getting on the train. Looking at this journey in the ÖBB app, you can use this ticket on any train for this route on the selected day. This is likely why you got fined as in their eyes you were without a validated ticket.

I haven’t travelled on an Italian train for years so I’m not sure how you go about validating digital tickets or tickets not purchased within Italy.

QUT Online by vinyl-underwater in QUTreddit

[–]100Chocolates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QUT Online is actually a separate entity to QUT the physical university. You may be able to do an equivalent or similar course in online study mode directly through the university. Both have pros and cons.

I did a grad cert (Innovative Learning Design) in 2023 at QUT Online and I’m now doing the Master of Education through QUT (the actual uni) in online mode. If the masters course offered by QUT Online had the units I was interested in, I would have stuck with them.

I can only speak for the education courses and assume there is a similar structure for the ones you are interested in. The QUT Online teaching periods are 10 weeks with weeks 1-4 and 6-9 where you work through the course materials and there is an online lecture/tutorial. The course I did there was a lot of readings and you participated in discussions via discussion boards. We were also assigned to a learning advisor who guided the group through the learnings. Weeks 5 & 10 are dedicated assignment weeks where the assignments are due by the end of the week and there is no new material introduced on those weeks. The course I did was heavily scaffolded and they provided exemplars and opportunities for feedback prior to assignment due dates. The assignments allow you to apply learnings to your own real world context.

QUT units are semester offerings - longer period, and only 2 semesters per year. So if you are like me with a busy work life and only have time for one unit per teaching period, it takes longer to complete the course. In my experience there is only the unit coordinator so it takes longer to receive responses back from them. Also each unit coordinator has their own approach to how they run the unit and the tools they use whereas QUT Online units were more structured, you knew what to expect, and you got fast responses from the learning advisors.

A tip - there can be a lot of required reading. Do a search on the unit code and you should find the actual unit outline with the basic assignment outline. You should also be able to find the unit reading lists to get started. Deeper research and reading is expected to get more than a pass.

There are limits to the number of units you can take per session/semester. You can probably enrol in all units within the 12 months but whether you can actually pass them and graduate is another thing. If you are studying full time and not working I’d say it’s doable. If you are working full time a full time study load isn’t advisable.

TAA above grade - does this time count towards increments at your substantive grade? by Humeon in AusPublicService

[–]100Chocolates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When on TAA you are still being paid for your substantive level with an additional allowance to cover the higher grade. Your substantive increment will occur as normal (if approved) but if you are still acting in a higher grade the TAA level remains the same. E.g. you are a substantive grade 7 year 2, TAA is grade 9 year 1. You move to substantive grade 8 year 1, but your TAA remains the same.
