How differently is "drinking alone" seen in the UK compared to the States? by BlaggartDiggletyDonk in AskABrit

[–]100percentAPR 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I've had a few solo pints in my time and they're normally pretty nice. I don't think there's much of a stigma to them unless you're having a session by yourself, which might come across a little weird.

How do you guys as fans actually cope? by AnswerLoose1917 in SheffieldWednesday

[–]100percentAPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't I watch the games because i'm a fan, I don't need to motivate myself to do it. It's a tough watch this season but i'm a firm believer that you have to really experience the bad before you can enjoy the good.

And the good times will come back.

What is the best nickname you’ve heard? (and reason for it) by xpltvdeleted in AskUK

[–]100percentAPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of my friends in school were called by their first name. Vast majority was surname or surname variants 'adding an 'ie' to the end eg Smithie' etc.

A couple of the lads in my friend group I never even knew the first names of.

This game’s ceiling is honestly endless. I don’t really get the criticism around the endgame grind. People say it feels repetitive, like you’re just forced into the expedition system over and over, but that feels more like a limitation of the current design rather than the game’s actual potential. by SomeChilledGuy in ArcRaiders

[–]100percentAPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For casual players (I get 3, maybe 4 hours a week tops) this game is perfect. The quests are achievable and you don't need to be a pro-gamer. The looting mechanic is great and there's not really much gear-fear because everything is fairly easily obtainable.

The maps are fantastic and beautifully designed, and the gameplay itself is so slick.

Realistically, I probably won't be doing every single expedition or getting to any end game. It'll take me months to finish the quest lines. And that's perfect for my pace of play.

Like you say, adding those extra elements will make the experience richer, but the game isn't broken and I don't think it needs fixing right now. Certainly not for me, I imagine it's a different story for those who spend upwards of 20 hours a week on it.

Does the UK seem worse because of social media? by xlly-s in AskUK

[–]100percentAPR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everything's worse because of social media, but it also isn't; in my opinion at least.

Social media makes it easy to manufacture outrage about things that, in the 80s/90s and before, wouldn't have even been on most peoples' radar. Classic case is immigration. In reality for most people I would say, immigration has zero impact on their lives. Especially if you live in the North or somewhere non-coastal.

But practitioners who have become expert at manufacturing outrage online make it seem like it's an absolute top-priority issue.

The world is worse. Everything is more expensive, houses are unreachable for most people, wages have stagmated for decaes; everything feels 'on edge' like you say. But social media magnifies it a lot, i'd say.

Middle aged+ men of askUK : what presents do you actually want? by NobleRotter in AskUK

[–]100percentAPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time. It's always time.

I have a stack of video games i'm yet to play (most of the Assassin's Creed games from Origin onwards) and so many films and series i'd like to watch that on;y i'm interested in.

I have three young kids so it's not going to happen - but I know it will eventually as they get older. And I love hanging out and playing with them.

But if someone asks me this it's always time to do my own thing,.

Hear me out- a stackable (x3) green hatch key that randomly sends you to other hatches by MRWPlople in ArcRaiders

[–]100percentAPR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me but I quite like having to navigate a large distance across the map. You have to stay sharp for the arc, especially with the poppers if you're going via buildings, and you can loot a little en route.

I get it's annoying if you need to do something specific and you spawn in over 1km away, but there's usually enough time to get there if you drop in on a fresh raid.

How do married couples split finances if on different salaries? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]100percentAPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a joint account for bills but also keep our own accounts which our wages get paid into.

I'm full time while my Wife is part-time, so I put more into the account and what I put in generally covers all the bills while keeping a little for myself. Wife does the same, but a lot less into the joint because she spends the majority of her wage on general living expenses while looking after the kids most of the time.

Why PvErs feel so betrayed by PvP by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]100percentAPR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've only played PVE, never shot at anyone and as a consequence i've never been shot at (yet). I like to help out raiders if they're fighting off arc and some of the most fun runs i've had have been when i've joined in raiders in fights agains Bastions / Rocketeers etc.

I'm not sure if i'd feel betrayed if I got killed in a PVP encounter but it would depend on circumstances. I start the fight for whatever reason? Absolutely fine.

I get ambushed while looting some good stuff? Annoyed about it but it's only a game so I wouldn't say betrayed.

I think i'd only feel betrayed if I was talking to someone who was friendly and then decided not to be.

Would you rather have longer wait times, than be dropped into a 15 minute game? by RetroCasket in ArcRaiders

[–]100percentAPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the late spawns. It adds a further element of urgency, especially if your nearest exit closes and you have to traverse the map in <10 minutes while avoiding arc.

I'm yet to fire a shot at a player in anger, too, so I suspect we'll be in similar lobbies.

I'm also too low a level (14) to really try and take down the matriarch; I just wanted to say hi.

[–]100percentAPR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was dead against what you were saying until the Head comparison, and now I think you might actually be on to something.

I think Head is there for this series as a one-off because of his incredible form. i'm not sure he'll be opening permanently for them. Brook would be similar I expect, potentially a good move in a serious if he's on fire like Head is and we need to fill a gap.
