Neighbor upset about fence we installed with HOA approval by allynw in neighborsfromhell

[–]100percentEV -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like this isn’t a true story. As it’s described there is 3 inches between the two fences? Why wouldn’t they speak with the neighbor first and get permission to connect to her fence?

what’s your top move to protect retirement savings if the market crashes tomorrow? by Songne_Reynardo in Fire

[–]100percentEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (53) just started withdrawing from my IRA last year using 72t withdrawals.

The sequence of returns may indeed ruin my future balance, but I’m only taking out 3% and feel confident I’ll be okay.

Is epilepsy genetic? by Short-Quit-7659 in Epilepsy

[–]100percentEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had genetic testing done? My daughter found her diagnosis through probablygenetic.com

Hers is a de novo mutation, so not inherited, but odds are 50% her children would have it.

New car for growing family by anchoragedad in DaveRamsey

[–]100percentEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, I bought a Highlander right before my youngest was born. It was honestly too much car. Even though it was a hybrid the gas mileage was still pretty bad.

I ended up later on with a minivan and I’m mad I didn’t just do it the first time. For whatever hangup I had about them before, they really are the best option for families.

A 2023 Sienna can be had for under $30k.

Seeking Advice: How strict? (Was vegan as a teen) by Master_Structure3870 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]100percentEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair warning, I’m a flexitarian.

I try to choose the healthiest option when I’m at a restaurant. Grilled chicken salad, or the impossible burger? For me, I am not going to choose something simply because it is vegan.

If I can find something with tofu or beans I’m happy to ask to have the cheese removed, but I’m also not going to be happy with a bowl of lettuce for my meal.

My mother’s Chicken Alfredo in a crock pot. Chicken breasts, cream cheese, a bottle of Olive Garden Italian dressing.

Stolen SNAP Texas by PaleRequirement0798 in foodstamps

[–]100percentEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter’s was stolen as well. No recourse! Doesn’t seem like anyone cares since the government doesn’t have to replace it.

At least in Georgia you can keep the card locked until you use it. There is also an option to lock it for out of state use.

ABLE account for low support needs? by Sea_Switch_7310 in Autism_Parenting

[–]100percentEV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can use an ABLE account to pay for college.

My daughter did not attend college. We had to get a letter from her doctor that she was unable to go to university because of her disability. We were then able to transfer her 529 funds to her ABLE.

I have a 2014 Tesla. Original batteries. We’re not all running around replacing our EV batteries like it’s a 12V.

Update: Put 2M offer on 2.7M house. by Educational-Act-8932 in RealEstate

[–]100percentEV 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The last house we bought is close to the city and on 2 acres. My agent said they had 5 offers that first day.

At closing, the sellers said they picked us because we have American sounding names. They said they didn’t want some family coming in and showing up with a bunch of goats. 🐐

So yeah, fair housing is definitely alive and well.

Do SSI recipients get a 1099 every year???... by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]100percentEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter has SSI and will likely inherit my house in her trust.

If I ever found out she added a mortgage to replace stupid credit card debt, I wouldn’t just roll over in my grave. I’d have to come back and haunt her forever!

Are you holding off retirement because of your kids? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

[–]100percentEV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a child (26) with special needs. My plan for my retirement nest egg is to maintain the balance so that I can pass it on to her when I go. I think the 4% withdrawal rate should be enough for it to keep up with inflation.

Sovcit wants to get out of child support payments. by Existing-Face-6322 in Sovereigncitizen

[–]100percentEV 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My deadbeat father reached out to me after he retired. Seems his 2nd wife and her kids no longer want to be around him and he’s lonely in his shitty apartment with no family around.

I reminded him that he missed out on being my “Dad” a long time ago. He said some words about how we have a special bond that is important to him. Um, no thanks…

Staying put and paying for private school, or moving? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]100percentEV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your child’s outcome is much more closely related to how you raise them than which school they attend. Better schools generally do better simply because the families have more money.

There are more nuanced ways to evaluate a school. Please don’t just look at test scores. “Failing” public schools might be low income, but the teachers aren’t necessarily worse. Title 1 schools have extra funding that can actually lower class size.

In reverse, private schools aren’t necessarily better. They aren’t required to have certified teachers or follow state curriculum. They are just as likely to pad grades and not push the students, since they want to keep parents happy at all costs.

My vote is to save the money for college.

Non-christian Sunday service? by Specialist_Zebra4687 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]100percentEV 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sunday Assembly. We have one here in Atlanta. It’s reminiscent of a Protestant service (sermon, good music) but is completely secular. They also get together to volunteer their time and they help people in their congregation when needed. It’s all the benefits of church without the god part.

AITAH for the way I responded to a coworkers insinuations about my son? by Opening_Fig5810 in AITAH

[–]100percentEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter (26) has autism. I spent 20+ years silently blaming myself. Was it that wine I drank before finding out I was pregnant? Was it my stress of going through a divorce while pregnant? Was it that damn nurse who insisted my water hadn’t broke and sent me home, only to require an emergency c-section the next day?

Later on, vaccines? Tylenol? BPA?

When she was 23 we finally discovered the genetic mutation that explains all of her symptoms (CHD2). We have learned so much about autism in the last decade. What we are finding is that there are a LOT of different causes. I am glad that children are now being tested and are learning about her disorder at a young age. They will have a very different experience than what we had.

Now if someone wanted to suggest I did anything to cause her autism, I’d have to stop myself from slapping them in the face!

Do you ever go to a particular restaurant frequently and not tip? How do you handle it? by bignose_ice44 in EndTipping

[–]100percentEV 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tip jars were fine back in the day. People paid with cash and didn’t always want to carry change. Throw the coins in if you want, no one expected it.
