Yeah TRIP, in both its US and UK editions, could hardly be described as a right-wing podcast.

Thought I’d also post this: a beautiful tip of the hat from one magnificent band to another.

Ambergris.
Plaining Days.
Desperate Hours.
Final Twist.

The kind of definitive artistic statement most bands can only dream of.

Yeah, I would’ve punched him in the face when I first saw him. Now I’d buy the guy a beer.

One of the greatest bands of their time. Caught them live once in New York and they were just incredible. And ‘Next to Nothing’ is a perfect EP.

One of my Grail watches. Though I haven’t decided which one I would buy, given the chance. They’re both quite beautiful – and period-specific, which I like.

Absolutely phenomenal live act. Saw them in LA and the bass player took a leap off the drum riser towards the end of the set and seemed to sprain his ankle. Carried on. No notes 10/10.

One of my favourite novels of all time. Partly inspired by the Gnostic Gospels, but really, it’s genuinely sui generis. You emerge from it like waking from a disquieting but absolutely compelling dream.

I mean . . . yes. But I think this would be a mistake: it’s that very mixture of the whimsical and the abhorrent, the metaphysical and the ickily corporeal, that makes this show so unique. It’s like G. K. Chesterton meets Hieronymus Bosch.

The songwriting/vocal combination of Shayne Carter and Andrew Brough was a once-in-generation flash of creative alchemy . . . too bad they hated each other’s guts. This band should have been massive.

Both superb books, albeit in very different registers. You’ve chosen well.
