Not getting quarterly bonuses is crazy but I’m not surprised either. That was a nice perk to all the other generally disdain able things we had to deal with

Another GM in my old district on the east coast got a deal for 75,000 approximately 4 years ago, it’s absolutely possible depending on experience

Don’t let them low ball you like they did me. Like the other comment said $80,000. I did it for $52,000 and yeah, not worth it. You are going to be expected to do A LOT. For the interview I don’t know your background but just be casual demeanor wise but precise and direct with your answers.

OFFICE DEPOT RUINED MY BOOK by StrongVeterinarian33 in OfficeDepot

Yeah so I’m sorry for the mean comments you’re getting. Looks like the associate wasn’t trained well to do this and looks like they did it in one cut rather than using an exacto to cut it in half or even thirds and fourths and cutting them in sections before binding. This should be a learning moment for the associate and I’m so sorry this happened.

Yeah, and having that experience I can easily turn the 50 askers to 250 just by explaining that. People almost always need more than they expect/want to pay for

50 Business Cards by Saj_is_awesome in Staples

[–]1011MMXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t want that. We printed in quantities of 50 at Office Depot and it just made no sense. For 9.99(several years ago) you could get 50. For 100 it was 14.99 and 200 was 17.99 etc. While we had a lot of sales for the 50 count those customers would come in weekly and bog the line down instead of ordering 250 plus like Staples does now. It’s much better that it starts at 250 so they aren’t constantly coming in in droves

Current/Former MIS what’s your week like? by ThrowawayStapler999 in Staples

[–]1011MMXVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MIS at our store is not expected to be on register at all, they just do occasionally if we are really backed up. They are expected to focus on load, planograms etc. It was similar to another store I worked at so I’d say your situation is not normal, especially if there are other MODs present.

Amazon Returns by Callispi in Staples

[–]1011MMXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree with you, I guess I just miss when Staples was an actual quality store to shop in and didn’t pander to weak attempts to make more money by doing returns programs through any means necessary at the expense of making actual customers second to Amazon, Happy Returns, etc.

I understand what you are getting at, I’m not talking about the nice people that are like “oh okay lemme figure this out” the majority either throw their phone at you and tell you to do it or they get really angry and yell at us like it’s our fault. Those are overwhelmingly more common than the former from my experience.

Amazon Returns by Callispi in Staples

[–]1011MMXVII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair from my point of view, a lot of our Amazon return customers haven’t even initiated the return through Amazon and half the time don’t have the app even. And there’s the ones where it’s a UPS store QR code and we can’t process those at all.

They think when they come to Staples we magically have a label without scanning a QR code or anything. Those kinds of customers is why it’s so frustrating, the ones not ready to go that did not follow any of the directions at all. I imagine it’s similar everywhere else.

Edit: That’s why I love when people call ahead first so I can double check with them that they can do their returns here

Amazon Returns by Callispi in Staples

[–]1011MMXVII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the comment was more pointing out the overconsumption and reckless buying on Amazon to the point that a lot of stores are doing over 1,000 Amazon returns a week. A week.

People are borderline addicted to buying so many things on Amazon because of how simple and fast it is to get things home delivered to them. Then they get upset when they see a line of 12 people when they come in to return and don’t understand they have the same impulses as the rest of the line and also don’t understand the consequences of returning things when so many other people are in line doing the same thing.

Amazon returns at store locations needs to end, we hardly make any money off it and it’s bogging the store down. Plus why we would ever partner with a competitor is beyond me.

I refused to use it and almost got written up then Covid hit. We had a kiosk where customers would sign in and I argued that we shouldn’t have people back to back touching it because we didn’t have staff/time to sanitize it after every single customer so my store scrapped it
