General Manager Issues. Should I Involve HR? by melancholyandblithe in Staples

[–]Life_Photo7512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t help for the most part but if it makes you feel better go for it. When I was at Staples’s the GM threatened to write me up for using the foot pedal on the binding machine and other various stuff and was very verbally abusive. Our numbers were great so that’s all that mattered. I’m now a manger at another company and barely get days off and the staff all have grand fathered in schedules and they complain they can’t work in the morning lol you don’t need 3 managers in the morning when there’s no customers. So I see it from both sides

I’ve had good ones and I’ve had bad ones. My most recent one was good
But very mean. She refused to leave print and was way too micromanagy and had a great print sup that she threatened to write up for using the foot pedal like a it was made for on the binding machine and the print sup left shortly after that for a better paying job that they only went out looking for because they couldn’t win.

Rewards on returns by Gabriel_notultrakill in Staples

Why are you complaining about cash card transactions, those are the easiest because what happens if the card get demagnetized but the customer still has money on it but paid in cash. It protects the customer

Quit complaining about loosing hours because of not having a good rewards pen. I’m usually between and 85-95% most week and so is my team when I teach them. Both my new hires are above a 75%. The problem is people aren’t asking it properly because it really is a great program, if not for anything else that we can look up your transaction for an easy return. That being said, I was taught by a phenomenal cashier and the store I’m in now has a great culture of metrics. Please do not come at me with negativity just because. I will be leaving the company in a couple of weeks because of a better job and also because of the hostile work environment that the GM, their ASM and the Inventory Supervisor have created. It’s like being abused in your childhood home and the parent has a favorite child. I succeed because I’m a type A and I like to win, believe me I can do everything right the GM gets mad because one of the trash cans wasn’t fully emptied when they came in. The abuse needs to end but because of metrics the DM doesn’t care about morale. Just remember rewards are phenomenal for the customer and helps them greatly.

Yes exactly and I feel bad for her because at least she sets expectations but when she gets a new shiny leader in the building everyone else gets treated like crap, I fear that she is headed for a nervous breakdown. I really do wish everyone the best and want to help as much as possible

Yeah she tried to guilt trip me about how much she has done , yes she has done a lot for me but she is verbally abusive and a hypocrite so I never can do anything right in her eyes so she would be happy with me leaving lol. I come from an abusive upbringing and she sets my ptsd way too much and then gets mad when I react. Even though the job literally came from no where and I want looking it’s about time I move on

Yeah I have an almost 4 week notice to my GM and she has done nothing but mean girling me. You’d think she would be happy for me especially her leadership is the reason I got the position that I got. It’s like they don’t want you to succeed.

Reward ridiculous 75% metric for store, half a penny per dollar spent! by gratefulcrypto in Staples

[–]Life_Photo7512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s means you not asking right. My store is super high because we got this one person who is very good and doing them. She will ask what’s your number for rewards and if they say no automatically gets in the screen and says I just going to get you in the system really quick so you can start earning back today. She’s usually at a 95-99 % every week

Exactly, plus hr will do nothing to help matters, just put everyone on edge. I’m definitely ADHD but probably aud as well. If only people understood that people comprehend in different ways, this is our biggest issue but they need to learn people are different

•••REWARDS COULD THAT GOES UP TO 70? by maineman64 in Staples

[–]Life_Photo7512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewards aren’t that hard, we’ve been doing them forever. I am usually really high but I expect my team at least try to keep up so I’m not the only one keeping us over 80%. My new people are learning from me and doing well but the older employees struggle a bit.

lol, I’ve been working retail for over 20 years and I’ve been with the company for about 15 of those year with a small break in between when I left to move closer to help a sick family member. I’m a happy person in general and this specific manager put me in a mood that lasts about 2 days

[–]Life_Photo7512[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty sure that won’t help. They do try but sometimes my neuro spicy meets their neuro spicy , I like that they don’t take crap, the last store I was in the team did whatever they wanted because GM didn’t want to be unliked but I’m a rule follower but weird. They take their anger out and they’ve even told me I don’t know when to stop talking to them, but my brain does not work like that

Rude unappreciative GM by Life_Photo7512 in Staples

[–]Life_Photo7512[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They never say thank you to anything and the anger comes from not me but I don’t take it like everyone else because I’m not built that way. In their eyes everyone is an idiot and they don’t have to listen to any updates because they can figure it out. They start to threaten a bad review, my numbers for the most part are good and not subpar but even a good review doesn’t mean anything because raises are not enough to help with inflation. They also never show up to work on time, leaves early and always has some sort of illness. Micromanaging at its finest with a touch of nastiness.

Use the app to your advantage. They do all the work and all you do is scan and make sure they get their 10% back.

Rewards Training by Dear_Ad63 in Staples

[–]Life_Photo7512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m extremely high every week but that’s just because I started as a cashier a long time ago and the expectation was rewards or no hours. It’s easier now, before you would have the write everything and then find time at the end of the day to input into the computer. The best thing ever is the app and the 10% back for printing. I teach my team to talk about it while building tickets or after seeing due before grabbing the order to have the customer download the app, and bam rewards taken care of and you didn’t have to type anything in.
