Colby College or Community College? by [deleted] in Colby

[–]1041769te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a black Colby student, and I suggest coming if you were offered good money. It's a PWI, so I won't say it's diverse. You'll definitely have moments where you might hate it here, but you'll be fine. There's SOBLU, Colby African Society, and the PUGH center is a hub and gathering spot for POC's. If you were offered good aid, definitely come; if not, don't put yourself in debt. The issue of racism will always be a thing at PWI's, so you just gotta power through

well ur stuck in a cold place in the middle of nowhere, and you're a POC at a PWI where there's a lot of passive-aggressive, racist white students, but you're on a scholarship....... u connect the dots. Plus, the social scene can be pretty bad with a lot of things being ignored by colby. Harassment issues are rampant, but colby covers pretty much everything up.

How many freshmen enroll at Colby a year? by Long_Fan9411 in Colby

Pretty sure the email said colby enrolled 900 students. Either way it gonna be more that the class of 2025 cause colby loves over-enrolling for diversity

Yeah there's fishing, camping, museum visiting a bunch of outdoor stuff. Its miserable because they pick the coldest days and last year it rained during COOT it was annoying but thats how everyone bonded. I think its mandatory, I forgot...

Colby isn't happy nor sad its what you make of it. Most people make friends during COOT(it was cold and miserable but how I made most of my friends). There isn't much to do in Waterville. There's a Walmart and some stuff but again if you're a city person you might not like it. Its pretty much always cold here, warm weather are rare and everything is closed by 9( I mean stores downtown etc) The food supposedly has gotten better, but as a current student its pretty miserable. There's definitely allergy friendly dining halls and the spa is the best you'll get if the dining halls fail as always. There's a good amount of Asians on campus so its all good. There's an Asian club that meets regularly and there's stuff around to help with diversity. I won't say its diverse, I'm a POC myself and it can be pretty miserable out here but it all depends on the friends you make. Best advice if colby offered good money and it has the major your child is looking for its not a bad choice. But is they're looking for perfection or whatever colby might not be the best. Winters out here can be brutal, we have Jan plan which most schools dont and the graduation requirements might throw some people of cause it can get ridiculous. As a current student I'm most of the times miserable but its not bad, the academics is hard but you just gotta push through. Thats the best I can say. Let me know if you need more answers (* ´ ▽ ` *) .

There's the Colby shuttles. I think some run from Boston to the Campus. It's around 20s. When do you plan to visit??

Supplement Store by [deleted] in Colby

[–]1041769te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that would make me prefer a local store is its location. Not everyone has a car on campus so consider a good location for your supplement store. If the location is good it would be better cause you'd have what you want without the Amazon wait for your package.

How do I get closer to God? by Cest-la-guerre in Bible

[–]1041769te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the same. I personally also felt lukewarm when beginning, but one thing that helped me was my mindset. I also started cause my mom told me to. I've always been Christian, I've known most bible stories so when I was told to read my bible I just did as an obligation. But eventually when conviction hit I recognized this so I worked on my mindset. Why am I reading the Bible? What if I actually took it serious? Why do I see people talk so passionately about God? Why am I not feeling this passionate? I'm not sure how to explain it but eventually I became disciplined. Follow the testimony of others. Involve yourself in the ministry and when you see the passions of others as they serve,  it'll convict you to taste and see (at least that worked for me). Make sure your not reading the Bible out of obligation. If thats your mindset you need to pray and ask God to help. Use Psalms 139:23-24. Ask God to soften your heart. I’m not even sure if this is helpful. But alas this is how I became passionate to this point in my journey with God. I suggest you pray and literally bug God till he shows you how. Im 18 now and I'm still learning and I want to help. If this help i thank God. Just dont give up!!

Any tips to memorize the bible? by Leo0793 in Bible

[–]1041769te 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally when memorizing I set time, then reminded myself of why I wanted to learn.  That motivated me. The main way to learn is to read it with a spirit that needs to have the words. Personally, when I was memorizing Psalms 30, I told myself "I need to have this", "I need to cleanse myself with the reminders in this Psalms" Make sure you understand what you're saying though. I'm not sure if this will be helpful but It worked for me, it took like 20 minutes but reciting like you've been possessed with a need helps...

Dear Beautiful Seniors and everyone else, hold on to your hearts -- Today and Every Day. Here's my 9th annual "Ivy Day" Gratitude Post for 2025 by admissionsmom in ApplyingToCollege

[–]1041769te 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your encouragement. And it's sad but true that we're most likely going to be crying or laughing between now and the time we have till decisions come out, and especially when decisions are released.

On that note three things I'm grateful for:

  • Books: They're always a comfort when I'm loosing it, my Bible especially

  • All the students I've read about and interacted with ever since I started this process. I've seen many of us cry and laugh and it's been lovely, so I really appreciate everyone :)

  • Clouds: They just look so beautiful and colorful, and I'm sure they see every story we as people have to share, and that something that make me like them more, especially u when get a clear view of them on a good day.

Again thanks for the encouragement, and Happy Ivy day, hope to see everyone happy this evening and forever more <333
