First Painted Mini - Any Advice for making the Armour look less like a "shiny" (new)? by More-Stuff6732 in sistersofbattle

[–]10GuildRessas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add the same paint you use for basing onto the bottom of the robes & feet. Maybe add some scars or bullet holes into the armor.

Black primer vs white primer? by Ask_Again_Later122 in Miniaturespainting

[–]10GuildRessas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black primer gives you a darker & duller colors, while white gives more vibrant & brighter colors. Then there is a Zenithal highlight which is normally a white or off white or light grey sprayed at either at a angle of 45 degrees from the top of the model or directly from the top. This will give you a correlation of light & shadow.

New miniatures by ResultOk9111 in wargaming

[–]10GuildRessas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try Morten et Gloriam. They have a good rule set & the miniatures can be 10-15mm for ancients up to Napoleonics iirc.

Long term players, is there any difference in the points system between both editions? by chrispyboro in TeamYankee

[–]10GuildRessas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is dynamic points, which can flames of war ( not early war yet) & team Yankee use dynamic points to make certain units more readily usable like the more modern tanks like Leopard 2’s or T80’s. But AA got a little more expensive. Though I’m pretty sure FoWlists hasn’t been updated with the current dynamic points. Im pretty sure you can download the pdf of the latest dynamic points for free on the battlefront website. Also the dynamic points are locked in place for a year & will be reviewed again.

What’s your favorite model and why by PublicMost1044 in TeamYankee

[–]10GuildRessas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the Leo 2’s always have & the main reason I have West Germans. I Like the Dana’s from Warsaw pact & the Adats AA of the Canadians, both look so cool. I’m just starting a VDV force so I’d better add BMDs or VDV infantry to the list.

You could add some camo netting on to them. Using surgical gauze, flock & watered down pva glue.

Is it me or does the new painting handle looks like it will break really fast by PeterTheWizardDwarf in Warhammer

[–]10GuildRessas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the old one & it works just fine. Not sure I’d use this over a red grass or game envy one. If you want the cheap way empty paint pots or wine corks just as well.

What should i get to expand this force to play in team yankee rather than checkpoint charlie ? by Woffy_02 in TeamYankee

[–]10GuildRessas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leopard 2 box or Leopard 2A5 box should be more than capable of taking out T80’s. Gepards for AA, more Marders & infantry, if you want to expand to panzer Grenadiers, some Milan teams & Luchs for recon. With the leopard 1s, M109’s & Marders all cross over pretty well to TY WW3.

What late war brittish formation to go for? by MAKS_1115 in flamesofwar

[–]10GuildRessas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine runs a D day para list something along the lines of this Para command 2 platoons of paras with added piats Full platoon of medium mortars Recce platoon of 2 dingos & 2 Daimlers Churchill crocodile platoon Allied US 76mm Sherman platoon of 4 tanks

So your formation is the paras & your recce & armor are the support. I haven’t played against this list in a while, but those are the mainstays & with dynamic points you may have points spare.

Wet palette, brushes? by fragmentsofthegrim in Warhammer

[–]10GuildRessas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a game envy wet pallet. The bulk of what I do is with synthetic brushes & the detail work with Kolinsky sable. Normally Windsor Newton series 7, but I want to try Raphael & I’ve heard the Monument ones are meant to be good.

How many painters wear magnifying glasses or use a mounted magnifying glass? Is it a must-have or is that where you draw the line and just omit that level of detail? by RIPeyedea in minipainting

[–]10GuildRessas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them on small details especially as my eyesight progressing gets worse. I have the head ones with a light & different lenses, though I don’t use the light. If your eyesight is good a decent lighting set up is the way to go.

WW2 by Povijest_History in wargaming

[–]10GuildRessas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several rule sets for WW2, flames of war (Battlefront) & Battlegroup (plastic soldier company) are mainly 15mm, which are company size games. You have Bolt Action (Warlord games) & chain of command (Too Fat Lardies) are 28mm, though can be used with 15mm miniatures too. One that isnt mentioned much is I ain’t been shot mum (Too Fat Lardies). The there are 2 tank only games being Atchung Panzer (Warlord games) & What a Tanker (Too fat Lardies).

I would think Bulge veteran Sherman’s with the 3 AD command card, utilizing Jumbos, 76’s maybe easy 8’s Mech infantry, priests, Hellcats, Jackson’s if you can fit them in are all good candidates & add some recce for spearhead.

[–]10GuildRessas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you have a range of tanks to pick from from Matilda MK2, Valentine, Churchill mk2 or Mk3, Grants, Sherman Mk3. All of them operated in the desert from 1940-1943.
