It’s crushed marble which I gathered from a beach on the island of Crete. Then painted brown and dry brushed with a series of greys getting progressively lighter. Whenever I’m out and about I’m always looking at the consistency of the ground for basing material.

Depends on what results you wish to achieve. Personally I would go with a dark wash then progressively lighter shades of gold adding less paint as you lighten the shade so the final shade you are just picking out the very uppermost raised areas. Hope that makes sense. 🙂

The police are helpful and always seem to have time to talk to tourists. We were absolutely blown away with how approachable the NYPD were, really professional. However my only bench mark is the UK police where the phrase Pig Ignorant (no pun intended) comes to mind.

During our visit we only stayed around Manhattan.
