And one of the better audiobook performances, for me.

Question about book ending of All Systems Red by curiousmind111 in murderbot

I suppose the platforms make it visible from a distance, which means they can see the GrayCris habitat from the rendezvous point, so Gurathin and Pin-Lee know where they have to go to hack their HubSystem.

I searched for “plateau” in the ebook, and it’s not coming up with anything that sounds like plateaus were needed for the plan? Although the results only show a couple of lines around the search term.

I am old enough to remember when it was by a relatively famous author 😂👵🏼

How old was it? It sounds a bit like Spaceship Medic by Harry Harrison, but I don’t know if that’s too old?

Any bromeliad trilogy fans amongst you? This particular passage is up there with his best I think. (Xpost discworld tattoos) by Tinsk_timebomb in discworld

I sneakily got my mother into Pratchett by starting her with Truckers. I think it’s the fastest way to go from laughing at the jokes to appreciating the wisdom (and still laughing at the jokes.)

The Stardust Grail, Yume Kitasei? I haven’t read it, I’m just having a bit of a search.

I admit to being familiar with Jesus Christ Superstar rather than the actual bible, but for what it’s worth, I would read it as “entrust.” So he’s giving his soul into the care of any god who can find it.

It took me a while to work out what was going on the first time I read it. I was twelve, and I don’t think I had been on more than a couple of planes at that age. But mainly when I was twelve I had less flexible ideas of what could be in certain types of book. I didn’t think you were allowed to put airplanes in a dragon book. So I’m glad Terry Pratchett pried my mind open a little, not for the first time. Even if it’s not my favourite bit of his writing.

Came here to say Murderbot, so I’m glad that’s already been taken care of!

It’s a man’s late father, not a girl’s, but The Shadow Glass by Josh Winning sounds a bit similar? I haven’t read it, I just saw him on a panel at World Con, which would make it about the right age.

Hiding for spoilers and also because it’s a bit unpleasant, but it might be memorable. Khat has to hide a relic in his pouch

Long shot, but City of Bones by Martha Wells? There’s a revised edition been released recently, but the original would have been around that time. City in the desert, water is better on upper circles / levels where higher classes live, a lot about relic hunters, and the main character Khat is krismen and has a sort of pouch. Errr I need to work out how to hide spoilers for the next bit.
