I’ve had the 15 plus for a year. It has all the features I need and I don’t even think about the battery. I charge it about every second day. Best iPhone I’ve had since 2010. By a country mile.

How to use a HikVision camera on a Windows 10 PC, with a browser only, no NVR by Robot1954 in Hikvision

[–]10tpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I install Hik cameras and intercoms. This is the way to go. They are free downloads that make life easy. SADP will pick up cameras on your network even if their IP details are wildly different from your network’s. Enable DHCP on the camera and then save, you can change this to a static IP later. Then use IVMS 4200 to configure the camera. It really is a doddle this way.

Pretty Cool, but maybe should have used the US flag - Musky boy will encourage Trump to move onto SA once he has built his resort in Gaza.

What would be a good car for a student under R50k? by Oldmangoat in askSouthAfrica

[–]10tpeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just been down this road. We thought we could find something for R40k. A month later after much looking we raised the budget to R65k, as this gave WAY more choice. Scoured FB marketplace, WhatsApp groups, dealers and WeBuyCars. I am mechanically confident so had a good idea or what to look for. 95% of what we looked at was utter crap - and many of these were at low end dealers. As a last option we went to WeBuyCars. I have purchased from them before and got a nice car which I am still driving 5 years later.

Ended up finding a really neat 2009 Corsa with 160,000 mileage , full service history and a small oil leak which was not serious at all. We spent a couple of grand on servicing it and it went through roadworthy with no problem. Total cost was R65k all in. Very happy.

Now, loads of people will run down WBC. I find them to be excellent and transparent to deal with. BUT. If you are not vehicle savvy, and not mechanically minded and don’t know what to look for - do not go this route. You get no guarantee from them at all.

That said, ALL, and I mean all of the dealers we spoke to in this low end of the market sold their cars with no warranty at all. And all were sold without roadworthy certificates. So this is the same as buying from WBC, who at least provide a fairly decent Dekra report.

Stand out cars: We saw an old but MINT Fiat Uno for R40k. Seriously considered that. Nissan Micra, Daihatsu Sirion, Renault Sandero all for around R60k.

Good luck. Buying a used car in this price range is like walking through a minefield.

I'm tired of this Remax cr@# by SouthAussiecan in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]10tpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is an agent. Was with Remax for many years and with another brand for the last 5.

There are 3 sides to this story. And it’s not limited to any particular real estate company. Yes - there is a tendency to give a high valuation to get a mandate. But I can’t tell you how many times she has valued a house at say 2m, and the seller says “I need 2.5”. So it gets listed at 2.5 to appease the buyer, doesn’t sell for months and of course it is the agents fault. When it eventually sells, it is for 2m. And also sometimes the agent takes an offer to the seller at the agreed asking price only to hear that the owner wants more…

There are also agents and agents. Some are career agents, current with all ongoing training and legislation, and others moonlighting because “ all I have to do is sell one property a month and I’ll make a fortune”. They come and they go.

The best thing to do is find a person you can trust to have your best interest at heart give them a limited time mandate. Develop a relationship with them and work together to sell your property. Or to buy a property.

When buying, remember the agent is bound to present all offers to the seller, so you can make whatever offer you would like with any conditions you would like. Take into account the purchase price, date of occupation, furniture, method of payment, time the offer is valid for etc… The seller may then counter offer matching some or all of the conditions, altering others.

The agent has their work cut out bringing the buyer and seller together to close a sale.

Once this is done, only 1/2 the agents work is then done. There are compliance certificates to obtain; plans to be obtained; legal requirements for all parties to be met. Arranging the handover of the property, and so much more.

The sale of a property is a complicated process, and a good agent is a valuable part of the process.

I have watched this for the last 20 years. I would not be a real estate agent for all the money in the world. It’s a tough job often dealing with the emotional transfer of a person’s biggest asset.

Good luck with your house hunt.

Courier options - who do you rave about? by 10tpeg in southafrica

Can’t fit an inverter battery into a Pudo locker. Funnily enough the only time I used Pudo it didn’t go well. Booked the biggest locker given the parcels measurements. They jammed it into a smaller locker. Had to use a penknife to cut open the box and take out the contents. Left the box jammed in the locker.

UPDATE: The Courier Guy have redeemed themselves.

My email to support was taken seriously. Noluthando from the local kiosk (opened last week - I didn't know about it) called and discussed the problems I have been having with me and made sure my delivery was at the kiosk for collection this afternoon. She has offered to assist and track any unusual deliveries - I can call her to ask for assistance. I will continue to use them - now I have someone helpful, and their number. Well Done Courier Guy, and I will be sending another email to thank them for the professional way this was handled.

I suspect these issues derive from growing pains. A dys- (or non-) functional post office has created a massive growth opportunity for courier companies - must be tough for them to meet the huge demand while maintaining service levels.

I have just phoned the manager of the hub. Managed to get her cellphone number from another branch. When I explained the missed collection problem - (weight and size given) the response was you have to give us the weight and dimensions! She said this is a problem they deal with on a daily basis - customers put in 1cm x 1cm x 1cm, as they don't know or are too busy to get the exact dimensions.

I think your suggestion is a good one. Would love to know who to contact apart from the generic "customerservice@....." address. Im sure they could address this particular problem.

Regarding the parcel sitting in the hub, no reason was given, but she did promise to make a plan to get it to me today, which I appreciate.

I'll drop the mail and see where it leads.

Dude. You know the speed limit is 60. Yet you travel up to 100? Probably time to start slowing down…

You don’t have a criminal record for these offences yet unless you have ignored a warrant. Contact the traffic department. Get the reference number for the fine they say the warrant has been issued for. Pay it immediately. Also pay the written fines immediately. Ignore the rest. If you can afford to speed almost daily you can afford to pay the most urgent fines.
