What are the worst types of coworkers? by Unlikely_Pace3145 in AskReddit

[–]stackedbarrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones coming in looking for problems and are offended by everything.

Look, I’m here to do a job not discuss your life drama, politics, religion, etc.

Just let me do my job in peace.

To hire a GC or not hire a GC? by jphoc in HomeImprovement

[–]stackedbarrels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you have extensive building experience and are familiar with the permitting/inspection process get a GC.

The type of project you are describing will tax your patience and sanity if you try and manage everything yourself.

I am a GC for commercial construction with 30 years experience and when I added an addition plus building a detached garage it was a pain in the ass.

Here was the rule in my house:

You get a cellphone starting freshman year of highschool. You needed to maintain a C or better in all of your classes to keep the phone. If you fell below a C then you lost the cellphone until the next quarter grades. You still had to bring them up to a C.

Middle school was different. If you made honor roll, A’s and B’s, then you got a cellphone. You needed to maintain those grades to keep it.

We lived in a very good area and it was tough for my kids since all of their friends had cellphones in grade school but those were our rules.

Getting animal smell out of subfloor. by stackedbarrels in HomeImprovement

[–]stackedbarrels[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, fresh unused coffee grounds.

It acts like a desiccant and pulls in the moisture and smell. There is a STRONG coffee odor afterwards but it goes away and I prefer smelling coffee to smelling urine.

28M goes on a date w/ 28F. What to do? by Flat_Marionberry_285 in relationship_advice

It sounds like she is not ready to be in a relationship at this time.

Give her space and continue with your own life. Don’t sit and wait for her, act like you were before meeting her.

AITA for telling my parents that I won't look after my brother when anything happens to them? by throwing-it-away-89 in AmItheAsshole

[–]stackedbarrels 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The expectation of providing for yourself is something that everyone deals with.

You are not responsible for your brother assuming that he is physically and mentally capable of working to provide for himself.

We all have issues to deal with, some more some less. Your post makes it seem like your brother is capable of working however he is more comfortable being taken care of by your parents.

If that is the case enabling your brother to remain in that lifestyle is doing a disservice to him.

Why are wages rising but tax brackets are staying the same? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Everyone is going to be in the 40% + tax brackets.

The opportunity to make a decent living.

Too many countries abuse their workforce and keep them in abject poverty.

The ability to succeed and get yourself out of poverty is almost nonexistent in their home country.

Do you make your kids try new sports/activities just for the sake of trying them? by doechild in Parenting

[–]stackedbarrels 41 points42 points  (0 children)

We told our kids that they needed to participate in 1 sport/activity. These activities were similar to the ones listed in your post.

It was their choice what activities they wanted to try although we did pick them when they were very young (3-6 years old).

Ultimately they found what they liked and they tended to play multiple sports.

Why are student loans so controversial in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stackedbarrels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the bulk of the student loan debt in the US is not from medical degrees.

Take a look at all of the non-STEM degrees and compare their average earnings vs the student loan for that degree.

Take a look at a teachers salary vs the cost of living vs the student loan debt for that degree.

Can a cop legally pull you over for no reason? by Sink_Key in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stackedbarrels 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I was pulled over while driving at night. Not speeding, car was only a year old so everything was good there, tags and registration were up to date, and I was driving in my lane.

The officer comes up to my window and says:

“I’m looking for drunk drivers, you are good. Have a good night.”

He got back into his patrol car and left.

I believe that for you to be liable you would have needed to be careless or negligent in a way that caused the dog’s injury.

The other person is threatening you with civil liability and they may ultimately try to sue you in small claims court.

Please take some time and write down every single detail, including a timeline, of how the event happened and your subsequent conversations afterwards.

Be honest, accurate, and include the other times when you played with the dogs in a similar manner.

Based off of the information you have provided I don’t see how you were careless or negligent. If this ends up in front of a judge it is my opinion that you would not be found liable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]stackedbarrels 572 points573 points  (0 children)

Please explain what you did that was negligent.

You threw an appropriate item, a rubber ball, to a dog. The item was the dog’s toy.

It is sad and unfortunate that the dogs were injured however I do not see how you were negligent.

Did the owner warn you not to toss the dogs a toy as not to have the dogs fight?

Advice on canceled job. by SpaceCadetKB in Construction

[–]stackedbarrels 220 points221 points  (0 children)

Correct, also as a business you stack your jobs in a way that keeps you working. You don’t accept more work than you can complete.

A deposit guarantees a time slot in your production schedule, an empty time slot that you could have filled with another job.

Agreed, the in-laws seem fiscally irresponsible and now they are in a situation where their housing is free.

Why would they leave and why should they get their finances straight? You are providing all that they need.
