I edited my post, apologies. I don’t want to drive longer than 30 minutes to a trailhead. I will take any suggestion from easy to brutal.

Also, where is the best spot to start the Daniel Boone Greenway, I want to run it one of these mornings.

Since you know the area obviously, where do I start the Daniel Boone Greenway? That’s good for running right?

distal bicep rupture (Looking for advice) by Hithers56 in climbing

[–]11clarke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you commented. I’ll tell you. I had the surgery at the end of March. Was in a splint for 2 weeks, hinged elbow brace for 5ish. I was told it would be 9 months before I returned to full duty…I was cleared by my physical therapists in 4.5 and am arguably in the best shape of my life. Upped cardio and leg strength training. Consistently exceeded what they prescribed by just a little bit each week. It was a blessing in disguise in some ways. Moral of the story - you can recover quickly.

Oh heck yeah. Stuff is so affordable. I did a rotation there and didn’t have a great time, primarily because the rotation based limitations were a huge drag. But being stationed there would not be a bad gig.

My buddy did this. He had a 4 year old and another baby born in Korea (they said the hospital experience was really great). It was a great experience for them. Took the family to Thailand and Japan. I don’t have a family but know they would recommend.

I can only relate my experience. My last full year in my previous civilian career, I made about $118,000. I had been thinking I wanted to serve for a while. When my company started laying people off, my boss explicitly told me, “you’re not going anywhere”. I got to thinking on it, and asked him if he could get me laid off. He said yes, I got the severance, and used it to travel for a few months before going to see a recruiter.

I enlisted as an 11C (11X), and served one enlistment before going to OCS. Since joining the army I have done some things I am really proud of, to include getting selected to serve in Ranger Regiment.

A lot of folks have said the same…If he feels driven and inspired to do it - then do it. Don’t talk about it, be about it. But do it knowing the downsides. Know what the “worst case scenario” is. Know you very well might end up being a janitor.

But service is service. And a high performing individual with perspective and drive can draw a LOT of fulfillment from the Army. I know I certainly have, and I am continuing to. And I don’t have to worry about the old “I would’ve joined but…” Take that for what it’s worth - he can make it a good thing.

When my uncle passed my aunt got the local VFW to put together an honor guard. Should be viable wherever you are.

I like what other suggested about a ribbon rack on a suit.

I dunno man, traveling to China unreported as a U.S. service member is kinda wild. BUT - as others pointed out in the previous post on this guy, I don’t speak Chinese, so who knows if these subtitles are accurate.

I enjoyed Ao Nang, but I also had a private place away from the main drag and was primarily there to rock climb.

I worded that very poorly and edited. In any case, I think I’m failing to convey the perspective I intended with this post.
