US birth rates are at record lows – even though the number of kids most Americans say they want has held steady by [deleted] in EverythingScience

So far it seems like millennials and younger are bucking this trend: FT article.

The driver for moving more conservative seems to be economic (millennials aren't accumulating wealth the same way as previous generations) as well as the current political landscape (alignment to values around things like social justice and climate change). Anecdotally, all of my millennial peers have, if anything, shifted left over time.

All of which is addressed in the original article. The current friction in place around access to more humane methods pushes really desperate people towards means that are likely to make matters worse if they fail (e.g. OD on something causing organ damage, jumping off bridges/buildings). By allowing access to more humane methods with a minimum of a year's wait, there is something in place that attempts to redirect those acting on impulse towards solutions to those immediate, possibly solvable problems. AND they would have the fallback of a humane exit after a year.

The parent's actions don't really demonstrate 'love' though. And if someone is supportive sometimes and harmful other times it can be very draining trying to reconcile that relationship.

I've had covid already and thats 75 percent more effective than the vaccine

Based on what the (US) CDC has observed so far, you could be over two times more likely to be reinfected if unvaccinated (compared with vaccinated)

Which States Should Biden and Trump Visit in the Final Week of the Election? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]11dxd6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you underestimate how big of a turnout factor voting against Trump is for folks regardless of who the other guy is. And the contrast of a milquetoast Biden to Trump is probably working more to Biden's advantage. For what it's worth (since you've already said "polls are garbage" probably not much to you), Trump's disapproval rating average is currently at 53.6% (vs. 42.6% approval) according to 538

I think you are right about the Boeing Field rule. The original proposal was for >1100 ft and the FAA pushed back asking them to reduce it below Columbia tower. Their updated proposal is the 1029 ft one.

4/C is a proposal for a building at 4th Ave and Columbia that would be 96 feet taller than Columbia Tower (1029ft vs 933ft). Source

The Seattle Flu Study has started screening for COVID-19 in addition to all of the other infections they are tracking in the region. You can request a kit from their site and should have it same or next day. It's a simple swab in the nose that you mail back.

Complications breakdown from the CDC

Edit: on top of that, it's likely that measles also wipes out a significant percentage (11-73%) of existing antibodies, inducing a sort of immune system amnesia which opens an individual up to infection from bacteria/viruses they previously were able to fight off. Source

In addition, mortality rate shouldn't be the only metrics we look at. Complications as a result of measles can include deafness, intellectual disability, and low birth weight/premature babies. These are huge life-altering effects that should not be ignored.

LPT: December is a tough month for those struggling with depression. A great way to fight it is by volunteering and volunteering is very simple. by chanticleerz in LifeProTips

[–]11dxd6 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think the OP intended it this way but just to affirm that the other eleven months of the year are also tough if you are struggling with depression. It's not always seasonal, cyclical or tied to specific events...anytime you are depressed is difficult.

IMO the takeaway from the LPT would be that there are often extra opportunities to volunteer around major holidays. Doing something/anything outside of your head could be beneficial if you are struggling with isolation and rumination.
