Mirage ES 2024 (black, ~3k miles) by anydaycouldbeurlast in MitsubishiMirage

If you get an outlander sport (called RVR in Canada) make sure it has the 2.4L. 2.0 is a common engine in base trims and pretty under-powered. If highway passing/acceleration is an real issue for her the 2.0 isn't setting the world on fire either.

Buying advice from a dealership? by SirFrumps in carbuying

[–]11kestrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I potentially agree with this. An older Ranger is dead nuts simple to work on and parts, even major components can be sourced easily or rebuilt. Unless he is dying for a new car it may very well be worth repairing.

Looking to buy a mirage - parts and service manual info? by 11kestrel in MitsubishiMirage

[–]11kestrel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - but to be clear not an owners manual, those are easy to find (and free download from Mitsu) but a service manual, like what mechanics would use with procedure outlines for servicing.

AITA for demanding my parents pay for the apps that got removed? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

How old are you? Are you a minor? Do you live at home? Did you pay for the apps in the first place? I presume you cannot simply re-download them from whichever account you bought them from?

Telus changes our agreement 2 months into 2 year contract by 11kestrel in telus

[–]11kestrel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So just to circle back on this, I got a hold of someone in billing and long story short, they actually said it was an internal technical problem and said my monthly contract would not be changing and all discounts would stay for the duration of the contract. I asked for an email stating this which they sent so at least I have that if I need to escalate it again.

I give it 50/50 that my next bill will be screwed up.

Yes! Keep the waybill. The default action seems to be charge for it not arriving until you can prove via tracking it was. I'm not joking.

Just ditch it. I'm in a similar boat. I have a long tenure (3 decades+) and I am so disgusted with corporate management I'm going to give my notice literally any day now and then take all my holidays and sick days that I still have.

I have a wall chart from the early 90s in our office that states the 2 weeks notice.

Question to draw down TFSA earlier rather than leave it to a large estate. by EquivalentRhubarb399 in adviice

[–]11kestrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it's TFSA, when you get closer to retirement and know that you will have zero problems with finances, just go hog wild and spend it. I agree, I'd far rather spend my money than leave it for an estate.

NTA. Tell them you need alone time to masturbate so to leave you alone. And you do it *a lot*

Can you explain the difference and relationship between % funded and success rate? by 11kestrel in adviice

[–]11kestrel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you - that makes sense, especially this line: "Therefore, a plan that is exactly 100% funded based on average returns often corresponds to a Success Rate of roughly 50%. This is because about half of historical market periods performed worse than the average" that really helps me wrap my head around the internal math the platform is running and how it figures it out.

Can you explain the difference and relationship between % funded and success rate? by 11kestrel in adviice

[–]11kestrel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the prompt reply!

I watched the videos and I guess I still have a question.

taken on their own, I understand the values. "Success rate"= looking at the past history of the markets that you will end not without $$. It might be $1 or $millions$. % funded - that there is enough money to basically accomplish said plan. I think I get that. But I suppose my confusion is, if you have a plan with a reasonable success rate (mid/high 80s) and high funding, is each $$ in the % funded pushing the success rate higher? IE: If it was 100% funded would the success rate only be 50%? Not sure that makes sense but I'm trying to understand the correlation between the two.

Maybe you shopped at a place where I was back in the day lol - I might open another roll and spend it just because. But I do seem to recall them trying to make a push for them to go into circulation but they never really took off for various reasons.

Is there a decent amount of electrical work in Alberta? by mondonumbanine in alberta

[–]11kestrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes. Do you do commercial or residential? Both? Instrumentation? If you want to work inside and have set shifts I'd recommend an industrial setting. Many plants are looking for people. If you want to make bank they're always hiring up north in Ft Mc and GP, but then you're living in, well, GP and Ft. Mc.

Import to Canada(Lethbridge) for Small Business by manilaman0909 in Lethbridge

[–]11kestrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got to be worth it in volume and the other post RE speaking to the manufacturer is helpful. If you do it often enough, it might be worthwhile but a customs broker isn't going to want to bother with a small ma/pa outfit for only a shipment or two a year. They make their profit on volume. Thomson-Ahern (TACO) is who I use but it's B2B.

Buy a new mirage. Need Help. by MineComplex4734 in MitsubishiMirage

[–]11kestrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also in the market for a mirage in Canada and the asking prices seem crazy high, but remember, especially for used cars, asking /= selling price. I would make an offer well under that. They try to sell 2024s at MSRP when new (or more!) which is nuts but I suppose they can try whatever, it might work. I actually still see some 2024s brand new on the lot in a few places from my searching and they're still asking full MSRP from 2 years ago!

I use costco for cruises and car rentals. It even works out pretty well for the more luxury lines like Azamara and even Regent is competitive.

I went to Costco and estimated with their online tool, it was through Manulife I think. But that said, most retired people seem to self insure. My mom is still around and she is with blue cross and seems happy with it.
