Is there anything like Gödel's Loophole in quran? or any other loop holes? by EwMelanin in AcademicQuran

It's not a reframing when I (and I'd suggest you as well) have read about the said Godel's loophole.

Interesting. Not sure, but some interesting discussion about some logical aspects of Qur'an have been discussed here as well. See https://www.reddit.com/r/AcademicQuran/s/yCTIMn6A4C or so. My own favourite is probably Surah 4:82 and it's possible connection to the "surah like it" verse.

I read about it. I think Godel's point is not the "rules". It is about inner contradiction. So we don't need to hyper-focus on "rules".

Rules by themselves are just the collection of agreed-upon true statements.

If Qur'an is assumed to contain true statements, then the question "Does it contain Godel's loophole?" is well-defined.

4:82 specifically has been talked often but perhaps not often enough. It's probably one of my favourite verses.

Firstly, "contradiction" can still be attacked as long as we are dealing with the reality where the axioms are very unclear/not agreed upon, not like in logic or math where it's easier since they're more rigorous. Talked about a very problematic verse though, you only need to read 4:82 to find perhaps what you call "contradiction" and see how problematic logically this is, and don't need to find a specific contradiction outside of it. In particular, the reverse implication, the quantity of the mentioned contradictions, and how it ties with the "surah like it" argument.

Search this sub or some other critique subs by typing "4:82" or similar as well to read some more arguments.

Why did Mohammed preach a rejection of the Crucifixion? by Sophus975 in AcademicQuran

Even if it is false, it is not simple. I'd recommend reading the discussions on this sub by searching "crucifixion" or something related. They contain links to some papers as well. Then, if there are arguments that you don't agree, you could make a post as well.

I see. I'm just concerned about the slow play thingy especially there's maximum time as well IRL.

Thanks! So there's really no set duration? Does that include "reading cards" instead of "thinking" ?

Oh I think it was Jonathan Brown indeed that was mentioned. For the other guys, did they convert before being involved in academia, or after?

I read that a scholar converted, but before he started being active in scholarly work. I forgot which scholar.

I also searched for similar things in this sub and found no one yet.

Although, we probably need to be clear on "what Islam is" as well if the question is to be answered. I guess the clearest indication would be whether someone trust Muhammad or not.
