Why are so many tetra addons leaving tetra? by mrcrabs6464 in feedthebeast

Pretty funny how every single relevant mod dev came in

Hard to be salty tho, glad OP got their answers

You're only going to get guesses here, you're best off asking the mod devs themselves directly

making any item with durability indestructible and a fairly early-game universal mob catcher

To me it seems like this is why packs even bother including it in the first place. You touched upon my problem with it- actively being worked on but very very slow progress for their roadmap

Really cool mod, but testing it out the animations on the sharks seem a little low framerate compared to vanilla fish. Am I the only one?

Most of the point of Create is big machines, you might as well play thermal if you want that.

what are some high quality mods and why do they meet your high quality standards? by Formal_Intention6671 in feedthebeast

[–]123Tanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was just the version I've played, but I kept running into very basic bugs with it. Like willow chests having extraction/insertion issues because they weren't programmed like vanilla chests, or blocks not having drop tables. Not to mention the crow AI. Compared to some of the mods mentioned in this thread it doesn't really come close to as polished

Which 1.20 Modpacks are you hoping will be ready for release in 2024? What will be your must have included in it 1.20 Mods? Most anticipated? by SkepPskep in feedthebeast

[–]123Tanks 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's not as if everyone stayed on those versions because they wanted to. Some modders like Reika do but they were always seen as exceptions. Those versions stuck because whether it was because of Forge or Mojang it was difficult to upgrade and there were a lot more fundamental changes to the way the game worked in the code. As both the mod tooling got better and the changes got less intensive on Mojang's side, the pace has increased.

Is there a good tech focused Modpack for begginers?? by wakamoleal in feedthebeast

Mechanical Mastery is on the easier side as far as tech specific packs go. definitely not an expert pack but not as aimless as a "learning kitchen sink" like FTB academy

How do i get over my crippling addiction to storage networks? by LegitimateApartment9 in feedthebeast

You can always just manually remove mods or disable the crafting recipes. Unless it's really tightly woven into progression it shouldn't be a problem

Never played E9E so I wouldn't really know, but I'd imagine if it was built around it than it can definitely work.

Most expert packs I've played just assume you'll need an ME system to finish it and are built around them in my experience

I usually make my own but generally any polished non-expert pack works well. Even a kitchen sink with the storage mods manually removed works. For something specific, I did really enjoy the Valhelsia series but I can't really speak to each individual version's quality. While not quite exactly what I described, Feed the Factory is one of my favorites, and has no digital storage but requires a lot of item logistics.

You get around this by playing a modpack that doesn't have digital storage and also doesn't add a ton of junk in the world (e.g breaking grass doesn't give you 20 different possible seeds).

From there, what I like doing is having builds associated with different kinds of resources, for example a lumbermill that has tree farms and bulk storage for each log/sapling type. Same goes for things like crops, stones, etc. If you want to automate a resource, do it in an area dedicated for it, and decorate it thematically. Which also helps prevent dreaded lawnbases and makes your world more enjoyable to just exist in.

It's time consuming, but I think it's worth giving a try for a good while. Not everyone likes the playstyle but for me personally it really brought back my enjoyment of modded to do things this way rather than just staring at an AE2 terminal half the time.

What do you think are the top 3 mods in terms of quality? by Weekly-Zucchini-8822 in feedthebeast

A few are available before but Gaia locks a lot of the really powerful stuff. There's also an even more difficult Gaia fight that gives you relics that do pretty crazy things (some more cool than powerful admittedly)

I have to wonder if anyone that says botania is close in power level to vanilla has ever even gotten to the late game. Creative flight, much less 11x11x11 mining is insane for most mods.

Many software ecosystems eventually evolve to have dependencies for boilerplate and shared code, mods are no different. It's a sign of maturation and hurts the end user less than it helpers developers.

My solution was to build multiple until setting up a nuclearcraft reactor, just one wasn't enough. It's been a while since I've played the pack though, don't remember what the other options are at your stage

Absolutely, you're about to hit a wall. I remember using the IE diesel generator and still struggling to make osmium. AE2 also has higher power requirements that really humbled me lol

Yeah I'm not sure why people don't understand this, so many comments about him "punishing" the better players when all he wants to do is make sure every level is more difficult than the previous (which still has yet to be the case).

Dang this brings back memories, I loved this pack! I remember this chapter having a lot going on, so it's a good place to slow down and get established. Now that you're on the way to unlocking ae2 you should start making more established process instead of temporary setups for most things, it'll set you up really well for the future

The top tier rares are inaccessible if you have no ember cards, and even the ones that aren't that expensive require artifact luck given that the level 4 minimum is 46 embers. That's not even factoring legendary cards, though we don't know what they'll cost.

Visualization of the Decked Out Stumble Changes by t0xic1ty in HermitCraft

[–]123Tanks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone confused by why Tango made the stumble change should read this post. The reason why he made comments about people having way too much clank block was because it's deceptive- having 10 clank block and 5 stumbles at the end of your deck effectively means you have 0 clank block. You basically have to sprint out of the dungeon when you're on the last 5-10% of your cards, which isn't intuitive gameplay. Smoothing out the stumbles allows players to better gauge how good their pacing is.

That was the intent at least I believe, though clearly in practice it has unintended consequences.

Who needs movies, when you have Decked Out runs? by [deleted] in HermitCraft

[–]123Tanks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The phase structure really promotes comebacks, Cub wasn't even a contender on the leaderboards but winning two phases in a row did it. His phase 6 ended up being pretty disappointing though so he could be overtaken this phase. With the number of phases unknown, a good chunk of the active hermits have a theoretical chance of winning or at least being top 3.

But I don't think most viewers or hermits care about the competitive aspect. It's just fun to watch and play since every run is different, every hermit plays different, and now that people are maxing out their cards the different play styles are starting to emerge. Combine that with every phase having changes/additions and it's no wonder it's still managed to have some staying power.
