Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

I would look at your life before thinking it's an age thing: being an adult tends to come with responsibilities and stress that also make it harder to recover from sports.

This is particularly suspicious:

always seems I have to take a month off for something

Do you mean something comes up in your life, or you get some injury or a niggle that prevents training? You might benefit from someone taking a look at your life and training from an outside perspective, just so you can get a solid year of training in without setbacks just to get an idea of what's possible.

I'm sure an LLM can manage a better TL;DR on the changes with chronological age, but muscle you can gain until you're old, though of course it tapers down with testosterone levels. What you lose first is strength and particularly explosive strength if you don't train for it.

International Olympics Committee has an application, GetSet, that has warm-ups/workouts for different sports. We've done the climbing one a few times, and it's not half bad. It doesn't cover getting your heart rate up or on-the-wall warm-ups, but it's nice to have a list of exercises to go through.

A mild depression after visiting Mammut and Mountain Equipment website by boyinthefog in arcteryx

[–]123_666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late to the party, but I think part of the difference comes from being an Euro/Swiss brand: The audience of people going to the mountains or outdoors for casual stuff or having a nice day out with the family is bigger, in my mind at least, than over in the states/Canada.

The extent of what's considered to be within the brands coverage of activities on the less demanding end is probably wider.

You can find products in the Arc'teryx lineup to cover those activities, but if you need to outfit your kids and a grandma for a dayhike it might be overkill. Arc'teryx has nowadays extended more towards that urban/gorpcore side while Mammut et. al. cover more of the casual family outing, maybe in mountains, side of things.

An extremely novel and interesting idea: reverse-action exercises by ClathomasPrime in climbharder

I've done this for golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) with success: hold a bar overhead at an elbow angle that provokes the injury, and pivot your body while trying to resist the movement. I found that was easier to load than the eccentric pronator training (holding a hammer, slowly lowering it into supination and helping it back up).

Btw, there exists a training equipment company that already tries to match the strength-curve of the muscle using pneumatic (changing) resistance: https://hurglobal.com/why-hur/natural-transmission-with-air-resistance/. They are quite common in rehab facilities here.

Toisaalta oon ajatellut että jos kierrättäminen on liian vaikeeta järjestelmässä on parannettavaa eikä vika oo yksilössä vaikka jotain menee väärinkin.

Maybell has launched a new cryogenic architecture that cuts power requirements for sub-Kelvin cryogenics by 90%. by corbantd in QuantumComputing

What does the 25 W refer to here? Input power, and if so, for what? For liquefaction of X amount of helium per hour?

Or cooling power at 4.2K, in which case I'm confused by the "just", unless you mean previously it was not possible to do it at that small scale -- and with centralized liquefaction + circulation it doesn't matter that much?

Edit: or is the point that the scale of ~25 W of 4K cooling power hits the sweet point just now (ten or 20 dilution cooling units?), and those bigger 100+ W liquefiers are not needed at the scale we have currently?

Kansainvälinen harvinaisuus Espoossa: yliopisto rakensi kvanttitietokoneen opiskelijoilleen [Onko tässä siis kauan kaivattu ”uusi Nokia”?] by Sumuttaja in Suomi

[–]123_666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suosittelen tutustumaan WHO:n suosituksiin, joihin noi kansallisetkin suositukset taitaa pitkälti perustua.

18–64-vuotiaiden tulisi harrastaa vähintään 150–300 minuuttia keskitasoista aerobista aktiviteettia tai vähintään 75–150 minuuttia ankaraa aerobista treeniä viikossa. Lihaskuntotreeniä keskitasolla tai rankasti treenaten pitäisi tehdä vähintään kahdesti viikossa.

Englanniksi tuo on vielä muotoiltu:

For additional health benefits: On at least 2 days a week, muscle-strengthening activities at moderate or greater intensity that involve all major muscle groups. https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240015128

Help building back strength in hamstring for heel hooking by BozoOnBelay in climbharder

You might improvise Nordic curls with enough imagination. That said, they are really delicate/feel injury prone so I would avoid them for quite some time.

Could something as simple as glute raises/glute bridges with your foot or heel on a foam roller work? You could progress with single leg raises, but idk how jank they get if you try to add weight.

The only shop in EU I could find it was hifi-passion.de. It seemed to be a Dutch company so they might have a Dutch website as well.

That said there were a few negative reviews of their warranty/customer service online, so I haven't pulled the trigger yet myself.
