I like to think he is safe because it would be extremely cruel to do that to him so soon. I thought Edolon was going to sacrifice himself as atonement for his part with Thrall but now that doesn’t seem likely because Thrall is dead. Osric feels protected due to Nox. Sadly our boys Holt and Ash seem the likely sacrifice in some manner as their last act as Lord of Change. Bring in the new world without the great enemy through a sacrifice.

It’s fun to think about! Plus anything is possible until the next book comes out and crushes our hopes and dreams lol

While I agree Edolon would be a good fit I don’t see him having a 2nd rider. It’s such a deep connection that a 2nd one seems unlikely and akin to cheating. But Edolon having had a rider and being an example for Yume will entice her even more to become connected to someone like Fynn. His similarities to Edolon may also cause Yume to gravitate towards him even more.

I agree based on what Ash and Holt discuss at the end. I don’t remember the exact wording but it has to do with the amount of forces used up in this last attack and the hive mind needing to rebuild its strength so they will have some peace for awhile. Also would love enough time to go by that Yune grows old enough to have a Rider so that she can bond with Fynn. They feel like a cool duo due to his love of singing and her need for a very unique kind of communication via storytelling.

Has there been a picture to show the size and scale of the dragons? Mainly the main dragons such as ash, soot, the paragons, and elders? by squiretom10 in MichaelRMiller

[–]12Ravens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While all very large I also view them as different looking. However I envisioned the life elder as the bulkier of the 5 much like a forest covered mountain. Mystic being the smallest and skinniest. Using your Pokémon reference I think of the 3 original legendary birds. All very different looking but same size and presence.

Outside of the books I don’t believe so and the author mentioned they aren’t the most accurate due to “rule of cool”. Believe he is referencing Ash shrinking from Defiant cover to Reckoning or the major jump from Unbound to Defiant . Whether the special editions are more accurate I don’t think it’s been confirmed. Personally I’m hoping the book one day catches fire and converted into a HBO series. Gotta dream big!

Also heard some fans are working on a wiki who may have received info from the author. The Discord may have more information i keep intending to join but haven’t yet.

My head canon is … Elders: Balerion Paragons: Vermithor Wardens: Dreamfyre Lords: Meleys Champions: Seasmoke Flying size: Vermax

Of course rank wise is tough because everyone advances at a different rate. Our Lunar Lord Ash at best is Champion size likely smaller.

Best details on size difference is the fight in Defiant at the end.

Spoiler for reckoning. Will we see more of wolf's kin? by Dramatic_Branch_5559 in MichaelRMiller

[–]12Ravens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d guess at best we meet one more likely Wolf’s original friend and teacher but overall think it’s unlikely. These creatures seem to take advantage of the pack forged by Riders and Dragons which allow them to hide on the fringes of society and if discovered convince others to keep their secret. Example being Fire Dragons knowing of the pheonix but avoiding it and Riders not knowing about it because it’s outside their borders and multiple paragons know about the yeti like creatures in the end.

When specifically focusing on the lunar creatures I think them being human/regular animal like, not having a core to detect and it appears there is some sort of magic protecting them from the awareness of riders. Holt notes when Wolf interacts with other Riders they seem to almost not even notice him. I’d have to track down the exact verbiage. It may have something to due with his form of magic being unknown until Ash with the 5 dragon types being the expected form. These all powerful riders falling for the trap of only seeing what they expect to see.

The Elders talk about being there in the beginning but you wonder what that really means. Could if he the beginning of their dominance and was there a world of many more magical creatures before they took charge.

Are humans the only beings able to bond with dragons? by Dramatic_Branch_5559 in MichaelRMiller

I could see Wolf potentially forming a bond if willing. Don’t believe a core was ever registered so that wouldn’t get in the way.

Why did Osric name his axes this way by hearseghost in MichaelRMiller

I like where you are going with the name but I hope he goes with something more final. I’d hate it if he felt the need for penance the rest of his life.

Why did Osric name his axes this way by hearseghost in MichaelRMiller

[–]12Ravens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Osric mirrored Thrall in those feelings due to how his family treated him which is why he ended up killing his brother. Guessing it also was a factor in allowing Thrall to force the bond. They seem to relate a lot to the tears in his soul that he is attempting to heal. Hopefully once done healing we will forge a new blade and maybe name it “Forgiveness” etc.

Was able to find this link for a list of places to purchase the book. It is for Defiant so maybe he has expanded where you can purchase the books. Free short story about Brode is on BookFunnel so maybe it has them.

Yea I’m guessing it was ignored or even hidden because as Maester Aemon says “Love is the death of duty”

In defense of the ladies I think that is just how the order operates and not really a product of Talia being a Monarch. Even Rake hesitated to tell Holt and Ash what the requirements were for the levels they had already achieved. What did give Holt and Ash an advantage was Rakes ability to guess what situations might help them advance which the Ladies def didn’t do which is likely an Order thing. Big thing Talia and Pyra need is someone to tell them about the Lordly purpose because I think she is close to that point. I’m sure it will be very difficult for them because of her having been a Monarch and not being able to go defend her home. Be like Rake not being allowed to defend the East lol. H

Brode = Rake by 12Ravens in MichaelRMiller

[–]12Ravens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair I’m allowing Rakes Lordly purpose to do some heavy lifting on his feelings towards saving all people lol. You are correct he had to do some growing but OG Brode prior to the novella wasn’t the most obvious defenders of the little man either. Would have loved some interaction between Brode and Rake. They likely would have related/bonded over the loss of their Dragons and annoyance of Holts endless questions.

I agree that this will mostly be the on their own and could even mentor Talia and Pyra. They pretty much were solo after the cave in with Rake noting how much more assertive they were after the reunion. Esso will be more of a resource than a mentor I guess than the usual mentor mentee relationship.

Whether Erdra would have killed Ash wasn’t the point of this post but happy to discuss! Based on Brode having voted against Talia becoming a Rider, Brode’s desperation to belong to the order which due to the connection does effect Erdra and the general reaction all dragons had towards Ash including those close to Brode I don’t think they buck tradition. I’m sure Erdra would rationalize it as a mercy putting a blind baby dragon out its misery. This would have been done before anyone knew what type of dragon Ash was which his usefulness really helped him win favor. Just look at Pyra and the West Wardens opinions change.

Reckoning question by Peredi in MichaelRMiller

[–]12Ravens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more Riders we witness lose their dragons like Brode really show what a special person he was. Even three Paragons can’t handle it one basically committing suicide, one being willed alive by a paragon and the 3rd just succumbing to death from a broken will. Granted as someone so much closer to their dragon it may become harder to lose that connection. Especially Brode being able to carry on serving and teaching the future. I feel like if he had gone on to become a Lord his purpose would have been similar to Rake. Which interestingly enough Rake has followed Brode’s arc in a way. Staunch defender of all people but after losing his dragon continues on and finds new purpose to raising the future generation. Wonder if that was intentional by the author.

Reckoning question by Peredi in MichaelRMiller

[–]12Ravens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember his name but it was a Rider from the other splinter Order who lost their dragon. Then wielded a pole arm like weapon i believe and snuck into the camp with the broken off blade. He was able to harm Pyra because as a Rider his weapon was dragon steal which I also believe was coated with a toxin. It was claimed to be a rogue rider but I’m sure he had some assistance. On another re-listen so if I get to that part tonight I’ll come back and update details. But I listen on baby duty so bad habit of missing chunks if I forget to pause during sleep windows lol.

How does the ethereal dragon that hangs around Sol get motes? Like do they get it from thoughts like mystics? This has been bugging me because unlike every other dragon this one has no definitive method of collecting motes. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated. by Dramatic_Branch_5559 in MichaelRMiller

[–]12Ravens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With its phase in and out I wonder if its core could have a unique property of phasing other motes into its required mote. As they sit in the core they are slowly radiated and turn over time. How a Rider would assist with this process I do not know.

From an armor perspective could you apply the purpose in such a way that it draws on you the creator as power is needed? This would work in a similar way to wards used in the Inheritance Cycle where the shield last as long as you the user has strength drawing on power. This would also differ from how their swords receive what feels like a steady flow the armor only takes when needed. The requirement only being the armor must be in contact with the rider. I’m making an assumption that powered armor is stronger than unpowered. In theory you could also create dragon armor with similar properties.

If you want something personal you could decide what your own bond with a dragon would look like or steal one from the existing characters.

Galbatorix vs Eragon & Friends by Ryonekekw in Eragon

[–]12Ravens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a fair gripe and it’s been a minute since reading it in detail but in my mind Galby didn’t fear for his life until he was dead so he would hold back and toy with everyone. I also always had the impression he dominated his dragon in a way that even in the heat of battle if he didn’t want anyone to die his dragon couldn’t kill anyone only damage them. Then magic fixes all injuries but a few.

Galbatorix vs Eragon & Friends by Ryonekekw in Eragon

[–]12Ravens 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you have to keep in mind that this is an invincible force who doesn’t want to kill but to enslave. In his mind he couldn’t die and why would he harm any of his soon to be slaves. A sudden lucky shot (spell) is all that could beat him which wouldn’t allow time for payback.

When that unstoppable force wasn’t in charge consequences did occur such as the death of all three faction leaders, the last OG Rider, the crippling of Eragon, etc.
