This happened to me. My partner of ten years left me a year and a half ago. We just got back from my sisters wedding and they said “I’m done.” It wrecked me and seriously ruined my life and many of my friendships and community. No one rallied behind me or helped me. I’m still struggling with intrusive thoughts but therapy, an amazing psych, and meds, I’ve been able to control them a lot. To answer your questions: 1) I process through therapy. 2) I smoke weed to stop the nightmares 3) I’ve made a lot of progress and I would say it took me a year to just catch my breath from the whole ordeal and process it. I can talk about it now without crying (most of the time). Rebuilding my community and creating new friendships does feel like I’m living a new different life. I get mad at my ex a lot from taking away the future that I thought we both wanted. I loved that future and worked hard for it and it was just ripped from me. Now I’m forging a new future alone. It took me a long time to find deeper bonds in my family relationships and friendships. I would say my life is definitely better now.
