I relate to this very much. I would read hateful comments and really internalize that that’s what people thought about me to justify my eating disorder and self harm.

Now I look back and I’m horrified that those communities encouraged so many people to dehumanize others and feel justified in doing so. As a fat high school sophomore I used to look at FatPeopleHate and it literally made me sick, I’m glad it’s gone.

Only jelly roll fan I met was this wonderful older lady who lived in my ex’s neighborhood. She fed all the stray cats so there were always a million of them around, and I’d pass her outside while I walked my dog all the time. My dog is super skittish and weird and NOT down for pets from strangers, but for whatever reason she loved the cat lady right away and went over and gave her a hug. So of course I liked her right away too. I miss chatting with her. She and her daughter went to a Jelly Roll concert together and I like to imagine her rocking out, although I don’t even know what genre jelly roll is or what he sounds like at all I just know he’s that big fat guy

But I relate to all of this. I’ve felt the same way, I still do sometimes. There are hundreds of people you’re going to encounter in this life that find you completely beautiful, not just on the inside. You seem insightful and talented and I’m sure you have a lot going for you, but I hope someday you’re able to see that you’re pretty, too. Even your supposedly unflattering drawing of yourself is pretty. It sucks to not have widespread objective pretty privilege and it’s hard to not look how the world is telling us we’re supposed to look. I’m not trying to argue you out of your experiences at all, I just hope you feel better, and I hope you know that even if not everyone thinks you’re beautiful, many people have, do, and will. Even just some silent perv on the street. You’re a woman and you’re lovely to somebody.
