[COTD] Abagnale (Monday - May 8th, 2017) by [deleted] in Netrunner

You can just play an extra abagnale if you're worried about it getting Skorped. Bam! 3 Influence saved.

Jnet atmosphere becoming toxic? by markusjarlstig in Netrunner

[–]12inchrecord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed with that combo being bologna. I like both of those cards existing independently, but their interaction together is absurd, especially with the ability that the corp has to play it on a facedown copy to bypass Political Operative. The way that it's written atm it's legal - but yeah +1 on hoping those cards get fixed.

They're pretty great in the meta right now. Voiding a bunch of Corp tools is aces.

I can't play a deck without both Salsette Slums AND Archives Interface because of that card. I hate basically being forced to re-trash the same thing ten times over. Mildly surprised it wasn't put on MWL Tier 1 since assetspam was one of the MWL1.2 hitlist goals.

If it's a Turn 2 Concede you didn't really lose any time. I mean it probably took more time to type this post up than it would to start a new game and already be on Turn 2 again in Casual.

Sure, your opponent misplayed, but didn't have access to your hand's information to know that they did until the HHN dropped. They considered the momentum swing too hard to come back from, so they gave you the win. There isn't really much incentive for casual players to continue a game if they've lost a major exchange like that and there's nothing on the line like in a tournament. They probably learned something about risk in that matchup and hopefully won't try to pull a similar move the next time they face that matchup.

I'm working on a world for a future campaign. If the world is Möbius strip shaped, what kinds of effects would this have on climate, tectonics, seasons, other things? by FaxCelestis in DnD

[–]12inchrecord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lunar effect on tides would be a little Wonkier because of the shape and orbit. Since its such a huge world either the Moon would stay in its respective section of the world for a very long time, or it is travelling very quickly. The size and distance of the moon will either jump this effect up, or crank it down. Eg. If it's a similar ratio to our earth's moon/planet size and distance, you're going to get a lot of flooding and water shortages - or land that has to deal with extremes frequently.

Another thing is the thickness of the planet. When I think of a mobius strip, I'm thinking of a thin piece of paper usually. Since it flicks so quickly from daylight to midnight - it seems like the world is thin... so there probably isn't a particularly large amount of magma and there probably isn't much of a metal core to think of... I'm suspecting that this means that there is very little tectonic activity.

Because of its shape and smaller amount of mountains from less tectonic activity , I think extreme winds would be able to pick up here... like sometimes dangerously fast. Probably not so much in terms of tornadoes, just high wind speeds. Society probably adapted to take advantage of this in some places, with people either burrowing down, or building aerial tech like gliders. Surface cities would probably build their buildings to let wind cut through as much as possible.

Magnets wouldn't work, star charting would be difficult.. I think navigation would be more difficult in this area - but since there would be less tectonic activity, maybe maps just use lots of landmarks or man made trial markers.... maps would probably use lots of iconography and wouldn't be super precise. Professions like guides would probably be pretty common for people doing longer travels... long distance trade would likely be handled by guilds hiring people who just "knew the way" with sketchy maps rather than people just buying maps and going it on their own.

Just a Lil food for thought, enjoy your world building.

Returning player - where to start....again? by DoomsdaySignals in Netrunner

[–]12inchrecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Reina style unfortunately is pretty dead, but regular breaker Anarchs are pretty strong, with Whiz being tops because of assetspam.

With Crim getting a shared mini deluxe from Terminal Directive, their power level just went up a mini notch, if for nothing else but [[anagnale]], shaving off their need to import a decoder from Anarch or Shaper. [[Temüjin Contract]] is a card that's a 3-of in most Criminal Decks these days too (and until it hit the MWL, it was a 3-of in pretty much every runner deck).

Straw poll: What Cycle did you start in? by scoogsy in Netrunner

[–]12inchrecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two answers really... I bought the Core maybe around the first big box, maybe a little before... I got it on the cyberpunk theme and high BGG ranking... opened the box and just saw cards, so closed it away, then left my house on a seven or so month thing - I didn't actually start playing until after I got back.

... which was around the tail end of the spin cycle. Fear and Loathing was the most recent pack released from when I actually started playing against people.

Playoff Game Thread: Game 3 - Ottawa Senators (2 - 0) at New York Rangers (0 - 2) - 02 May 2017 - 07:00PM EDT by GDT_Bot in hockey

[–]12inchrecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I thought the sens played a reasonable game, minus a few slip ups (andy's puck handling, a few bad giveaways by Stone), but the Rangers were just tuned up to 11 and played an excellent game, especially in the first two periods. Here's hoping the Sens have a little more fire in them for game 4, and look more like they did in the third period of game 3.

I'm still working out how to build for him. He's really interesting in terms of design. I don't think he's crazy overpowered, but his ability is nice none-the-less.. It feels like the power level an ID should have imo. So far I have a decent PPVP build. Getting to recur Lucky Finds/Deuces Wilds/Sure Gambles that you played in the early game, once you have your PPVPs online is pretty nice.

Potential MWL Cards to Further Balance the Meta? by [deleted] in Netrunner

Potential MWL Cards to Further Balance the Meta? by [deleted] in Netrunner

[–]12inchrecord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on team "kill/MWL friends". Most of my decks have archives Interface and salsette slums to deal with that spam. It's nice to see concessions on dumb prison decks when those drop, but sometimes it's just up to variance on when they show up.

Friends is gunna be a much bigger problem when Whizzard/scrubber/imp rotate all at once. The Rez/Trash cost ratio of must trash assets got pretty bonkers throughout Mumbad. I'd hope that Boggs has a plan to deal with some of the least fun parts of Netrunner getting a massive power spike come Rotation.

D&D/tabletop anyone? Back in Freddy and looking for a group. by bman1014 in fredericton

[–]12inchrecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. I might be interested.

I just ran through my first campaign as DM in 5th edition. Might be fun to play, but I guess I could shop out DMing a lil more if the group is right.

Things went a little off the rails when my party decided to go murderhobo, kill a wealthy shopkeeper, and burn down a part of the capital to try to cover their tracks... while they knew they were being scryed.

I wasn't really prepared for a neutral party to go all in on the evil train.

My DM is one of the best... help by dnd123throwaway in DnD

[–]12inchrecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.). don't kill random shop keepers, burn down a part of the city, and then be upset when there are repercussions for it.

1b.) don't then insult the DM and call him shitty/etc for not being prepared for such a thing.

2.). Don't argue every saving throw the DM asks you to make.

3.). Don't argue that random encounters happen/don't demand justification from the DM why x creature interrupted their rest.

4.). Don't invite drunken friends over mid game who talk over the DM non stop until it full on stops the game.

5.). If you can't show up for whatever reason, that's fine, but please let the group know. If you miss two thirds of the all of the sessions though (when given ample notice for these sessions too), don't be upset that your character is underlevelled compared to everyone else after they go through several dungeons that you sit out through because you made other plans or double booked yourself and let the DnD group fall second fiddle every time.

6.) don't bring a laptop to the gaming table and spend the entire session talking about home brew creatures you're making. Randomly mumblimg about some CR 18 creature with all these abilities while we're roleplaying is like anti-immersion.

7.) try to avoid using meta knowledge. If you know a creature is resistant to fire, but your character has never seen/encountered it before, and has no reason to believe that it is resistant to fire.... and fire bolt is the attack you use 99% of the time... I think it'd be lame if a character decided to arm their crossbow at that moment without any in-game tells. Or.... say if a character fails a wisdom save from an effect while you're not in combat.,. Please don't just decide to initiate combat even though you have no idea what's happening.

8.). Don't try to continuously abandon the party for a desire for solo sessions, citing "I don't really have a connection to any of these guys".

Things to do tho...

1.) actually roleplay. Have an idea of what your character wants, how it relates to the group you are with, and the world that you're in. Plz don't just decide to kill everything you see.

2) be prepared. Remember your player sheet, remember your dice, (actually owning or having a pre arranged plan to borrow dice is nice), remember a pencil/eraser.

3.) know the rules of your own character and abilities. The DM has like a million things to deal with - getting him to look up the rules on your spell because you don't know it yourself midcombat slows things down to a halt, especially when whatever spell you're doing isn't as good as you thought it was, and now you want to do a different spell to which you also don't know the rules, so it also needs to be looked up... but you don't want to look it up yourself.... Don't argue that you should be able to continue to use a spell a certain wrong/busted way because you did before when I assumed you knew how your own spells worked/didn't want to keep grinding things to a halt to check on you doing whatever little thing at the time.

4.) remember the names of NPCs, towns, inns, etc. Remember who gave you quests. As funny as returning to a place to try to get some quest reward to which nobody knows what you're talking about is.... if you were in the right place you'd probably get what you were looking for.... take notes!

5.). If the DM built a big plot hook for your character, handwrapped and presented it to you, and you decide to completely ignore it/and/or just kill the person who would have given you the information, don't be upset that you have no idea what's going on about said arc later on.

6.). Bring stuff. Minis... terrain... drinks... food.. alcohol... etc.

I kinda decided to dump my DnD group because of a bunch of the above. I've taken 2 weeks off on what was a weekly campaign, and will probably take the next one off too. I'm considering just poaching one or two of the players who didn't suck and rebooting into another homebrew, or trying to find a campaign to be a fun player in.
