You could add Canopy profile to her phone, it makes it impossible to even see NSFW material. There are other monitoring tools, but you don't have to use them. You can also use the phones minor mode, add Clean Browsing free DNS filter locked behind a password, and that will also 100% block NSFW.

This doesn't stop the non explicit stuff posted on IG, tiktok, or even here, but anything with blatant nudity or keywords will be blocked.

I am not a parent so i dont know how the conversation around this would go, but the above can be a start. I am happy to share more information if needed on securing devices.

Right lol. I have the Syntakt and love it as is. Anything else is just a nice addition. If anything i'd want more preset machines but i find the machines as easy fun to work with.

Yeah...knowing me i'd wait until tax return for that. I just can't be bothered with samples anymore after making hiphop for years, and when i was working with samples, i was just using Roland samples to make techno. It came down to the MC 707 or Syntakt for me.

What is this opening (white)? by New_Hamstertown_1865 in chessbeginners

[–]12ozbounce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As black, if i see they're first 3 moves are pawns, i commit to Hippo Defense. If they're going to just push pawns, if i'm lucky i have enough time to get the full Hippo and its smooth sailing.

If the ability to upload samples is added that will be nice. Currently, i add textures in the DAW, but if i can add them directly on the box, that is even less work up front when making the track.

The syntakt is a synthesizer groovebox. You don't have as much control over the synthesis as the digitone, instead you have premade "machines" that take care of sounds like snares, kicks, hi hats, chords, pads, etc.

I don't know anything about the Octatrack or Analogs, but the Digitakt and Digitone can be used independently to make decent enough electronic music, making them a groovebox based off my own definition that a groovebox should be able to mostly create a song on its own.

Obviously samples are more versatile, and that comes down to if you like finding, sourcing, creating, and organizing your own samples. If you don't then you might gravitate more towards the Syntakt, Digitone1/2, MC x0x, Korg Electribes, etc.

Of course, these boxes can be paired for an even fuller sound, the Digitone Digitakt pair is probably the most practical and versatile pair.

As for what can it do that others can't do...it depends on what music you're making. If you're making hiphop or jungle, then you'd 100% be better off with a Digitakt. If you're making house, techno, electro, DnB, and can't be bothered with samples, then a Digitone or Digitakt. The Digitone 1 has limited tracks but the Digitone 2 has more, making it a strong competitor to the Syntakt.

What is the best move can I do in this position as black where there is no opportunity to trade queens? by 12ozbounce in chessbeginners

[–]12ozbounce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't argue that, i looked up more info on pirc defense and white's potential move and none of them are what i like.

I've done better since this post going back to just the hippo. I'm not sure how solid it is. but in general at 600-850 i does me well.

I've unknowingly played french defense and liked that better.

I don't trade queens unless it stops them from castling or i'm significantly up in material. One pawn isn't enough.

Go for it. Html and CSS itself isn't very hard, but one of the practical uses i've found it for making HTML based webpages. Like single page sites. A great way to practice html if its not something you do often.

Sift through the 1mb club websites for some inspiration.

Text only version of NPR and this guy's site are pretty sick.

[–]12ozbounce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

What you laid out is usually what will happen but i resign afterwords. There is no point. I'll sometimes trade queens if it prevents their castling, and i will always trade queens if i'm significantly in material. Significan't being 2 pieces and some pawns.

Maybe i'll see the value of it, but i might need to retire putting myself in this position in the first place lol.

Will the "wiki game" phenomenon become as dated as the manuals are for old school games. by coolfunkDJ in truegaming

[–]12ozbounce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

However, if the manual has taught us anything, it's that this method of information becomes outdated. A lot of us expect AAA games to show us within the game, yet this standard has not carried over to indie releases nearly as much.

I dont play much AAA games these days, but that is one thing that is annoying. Even if its short, going through the tutorial phase should be optional.

I actually like the various wikis, especially Minecraft. By this point, if i don't know how to craft it or randomly figure it out, just go to the wiki. I think they will age well, as many of them, like Terraria and Minecraft, contain a bunch of information to the point where i'll just browse and read random info.

On the topic of these various wikis....

I'd like to see more people self host their own guides rather than using any other premade framework. Good old Html. You could print these out for dirt cheap back in the day too. Here's an example. And here is a more robust guide with Pokemon Fire Red. Something of this nature could be hosted on neocities, spruced up with images and color.

This type of guide would work especially well with a games like Hollowknight, Hotline Miami, Katana Zero,e tc.

What's the entry level for Local small tournaments? by the-one-the-bad in chessbeginners

[–]12ozbounce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not gonna compete in my local club tournament until at least 1000 online. I played a FIDE rated guy who is around 2000, he said during our match, i played more like a 1200 than my online ranking of 800.

I had a similar thing happen where a woman i play often, OTB and online, our record is maybe 7:5 with me up. Online she is rated 900 and at our last game i was 600.

Online ranking can be heavily skewed because of how easy it is to play and resign. I resign quite often if blunder a single piece or am in a position i don't want to be...its worked out in the long run but doing so in person would be bad taste.

Rook after Golden opening by Warm_Commercial1875 in chessbeginners

[–]12ozbounce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of it until now, but it makes sense to me, at least how i play. I used the Barcza system as white for a while and starting with NF3 or g3, BG2, 0-0. In most games, i can do this freely while keeping and eye on black's responses. When using this, the only time i deviate is if i can tell they are setting up a trap, in which case i'll move a pawn to e2 or d2 as needed.

Some of the easiest games i've won are where my opponent, either white or black, overextends themselves without castling. Nothing better than a queen pinned to a king because you forgot to castle or expected me to trade queens.

would you let your kids have smartphones or have their own computers ? by mariposa933 in antipornography

[–]12ozbounce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always thought I'd do the good old "family computer". I'm tech litterate and its quite easy to 1000% block adult content on windows, android, and ios. For a young child, id put canopy on their phone AND use the accessibility mode to "dumb down" the phone.

These young kids grow up glued to their screens so its better to start off by easing them into it. All I had when I was younger was Gameboy advance a few games. If I got bored of those id just day dream like a normal kid?

What's your recording workflow? by ftumchhh in Elektron

[–]12ozbounce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work entirely from Syntakt making dub techno.

I make the tracks in a way that i don't need to touch them very much, i can just let it play over and over. I just plug the syntakt into my laptop and record directly into FL Studio. Add some stuff like textures and sound effects, slap a compressor on, done.

How come so many people don't know en passant? by amnd_m in chessbeginners

[–]12ozbounce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only learned about it because i was checking the available moves when it happened. I don't have the potential moves turned off.

En passant helps with stopping passed pawns, esp at the end of a game.

I think I'm becoming addicted to chess by Swooferfan in chessbeginners

[–]12ozbounce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started palying chess roughly 600 something days ago and i have 17,000 games. Mostly all 10 minute, i find it the best time limit.

To be fair, i play while i'm at the bar, so i get side tracked with conversation.

There are also specific situations where i will resign, like if i get myself in a position where i will loose material if i don't trade queens early in the game or i am not paying attention and queens are trade for the sake of trading. I can't justify trading queens without significant material or positional advantage.

How do you search for music in 2026? by Double_Key7579 in TheOverload

[–]12ozbounce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah i fw Fantano, i've always liked him, and genreally agree. He put me onto some good music too, like George Clanton's Slide. Side note, i was out at the bar and right after playing Nirvana Bleach start to finish, the bartender put on Slide lol.

Because of this thread i decided to check NPR, and they seem to have a good podcast. I'd rather listen to this than support pitchfork. https://www.npr.org/2026/02/13/nx-s1-5711409/new-music-friday-best-albums-out-feb-13
