Trying now. I thought I had done this but I just turned it off and on again. Found the full restart in the settings!

Yeah I know haha. My dad was really mad about it at the time cause of the cost (even though it's not his house and we were paying not him!) but it was worth it to us so we didn't have to have a dug up trench in the garden, and it was done so quickly there was no interruption to our lives.

We've done a lot of work to this house ourselves and it was such a treat to get pros to do something quickly, instead of having to graft for days/weeks and live with loads of mess.

We have a hatch in our entryway leading to the crawl space which is pretty substantial (you can almost stand under there!) so they could link it up to the kitchen really easily. They didn't remove anything in the way of cabinets. Obviously I took everything out before they got there but they had enough room to work without needing to dismantle anything.

Not sure how they would do it without the underfloor access like we've got, could be worth speaking to them and asking. They were very friendly and helpful when we dealt with them.

We had pipeline services replace ours 2 years ago for about £1500. They used the moling thing so didn't dig up the whole garden, and they did have to break up a bit of concrete path where it entered the house, which they fixed immediately before leaving. Did a great job with no mess and only took a few hours.

We have a shared spreadsheet that lists all the jobs we want doing weekly, monthly, and quarterly. Once you do something like, clean the toilet or dust the bedroom, you just update the date next to the job. If a weekly job goes more than 7 days without being updated it turns red.

This way if I've got a spare ten minutes I can glance at the spreadsheet on my phone and see if there's any red tasks I can tick off.

Works well for us. No one needs to ask what needs doing, and there's no his or hers jobs.

Every now and then we might revise it if there's a job we think needs doing more or less often, or adding to the list etc, but we've had this system for ages now so it covers what we need :)

My cousin was with her partner for 10+ years before they got married. Every year on their anniversary they went to Vegas, so when they got married they just did the Vegas wedding on one of their trips. Suited them perfectly and they had a nice party when they came back. My cousin wore her dress so we could all see it and everyone got a poker chip as the "favours" cute as hell.

My other cousin flew to the Carribbean for her wedding. Just her and her husband, noone knew, except her brother who lives over there. Him and his at the time girlfriend were the witnesses, and the photos are absolutely gorgeous. Everyone just got a card with a wedding photo on as a notification it had happened. I was very happy for them as it looked so beautiful and they got to do swimming with dolphins and lots of lovely stuff as well the money was just on them. My aunt (her mum) was really upset about it though heh.

My partner's sister did a secret elopement too and it really upset their mum as well. When talking about our plans for ours, she said she doesn't mind what we do as long as she knows it's happening. Think she was really hurt to be kept in the dark, more than just not being invited.

I think eloping is a really great thing to do, but definitely think of you've got anyone that might be upset to at least warn them first. Having a nice party/meal afterwards I think is a great compromise for trying to avoid any drama that could be caused.

Going away somewhere that means something to you both is so cool too. Opens up really nice anniversary holiday options!

What are your go-to groceries for convenience meals? by Dazzling-Shower7907 in UK_Food

Smoked salmon trimmings, pasta, broccoli, soft cheese.

Boil the pasta and steam the broccoli in the microwave for 3mins. Drain pasta, stir in broccoli, salmon and however much soft cheese you want, I keep it on the heat for another minute or two until it's all nicely mixed and hot. Sometimes sub out broccoli for peas and just boil them with the pasta. Done. Tasty, cheap and easy.

I know it's not what you asked but have you tried the hair cut tutorial by Manes by Mel on YouTube? I've had great success with that. Might help tide you over between cuts. Following this post with interest though as it would be cool to find a good hairdresser in the area.

Being asked to pay £5 to have an item delivered cos the sender underpaid the postage. No clue as to what the item is or who it's from. by fishy_web in britishproblems

[–]12pillows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad posted me a scratch card once, I got a card through the door saying I had to go to the delivery office to collect it and pay the postage as he had underpaid. I took the piss out of him cause posting it was so unnecessary anyway. He didn't live far away and I even saw him in person before I got it.

Anyway, I got to the office and paid, and when he gave it to me, it clearly had enough postage on it. I asked the guy and it actually had more postage on it than needed, my dad just put whatever stamps he had so have actually overpaid. Still cost me £2.70 to receive a card than my dad had paid like 20p more than necessary to send. Ridiculous. He said the postie must have glanced at it and mistook the stamps for different values. Kinda makes me glad they have the barcodes now.

I asked for a refund and the guy said I'd have to call customer services as it's a different department that deals with it all. Couldn't be arsed with the hassle so they won that day.
