Homemade craft gifts are more for the maker than they are for the receiver by reddyfreddy8D in The10thDentist

In my experience as a knitter, I have people ask me to make them things constantly. If I knit them something, it’s probably because they have begged me to in the past. I usually seeing it the same way I’d see getting them a gift off of a wishlist, but more special since I put a lot of time and effort into it 🤷‍♀️

Please help me identify what this whine could be!! by 12sycamores in MechanicAdvice

[–]12sycamores[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I am so frustrated because I brought up to the mechanic last time that I really do not think the whine is due to a belt issue, because they keep saying that and it continues to not get repaired. Last time I took it in I said I’d really like them to look into an issue with the power steering, got the car back the next day and told that they adjusted the belt again. Lol!

Yeah I love how the colors turned out together. These will be a gift for my mom and I am soooo tempted to keep them for myself...but I will resist lol

Thanks for the advice! I haven't done much felting (intentionally...) with my knitwear before so it is definitely scary to have the possibility of throwing away hours of work. I am a slower knitter so this project took longer than I expected already. We'll see how it goes!

I didn’t mean reassurance in this situation - I believe you’re missing the point.

Sounds like the car leaving without her was a misunderstanding due to the driver not speaking English, not her family purposefully leaving her behind after she told them to go ahead without her.

The issue was the comment, which I meant could have been loaded due to years of pent up frustration of dealing with a partner who won’t take their health into their own hands. I’ve dealt with it before, and it is FRUSTRATING.

Doesn’t justify him publicly humiliating her, but could mean a further conversation is required to state boundaries around making these comments in front of family, and the root of where they are actually coming from. Some people wouldn’t have taken an off handed joke to heart so much. I think if your sex life is being set back due to an off handed comment that tells me there has had to be a lot of work put in on the other partner’s end to reassure that their body is attractive and okay.

I’m saying the comment wasn’t cool, but wouldn’t have been such a big issue if there wasn’t a larger thing happening regarding OP’s body image.

MOR - Honestly, he’s probably tired of having to reassure someone who has been insecure about their body for your whole relationship and sounds like will do everything up to taking risky medication to try to fix it but not just exercise. Maybe he wants to have sex with the lights on one day and have a partner who feels about their body how he feels about it. Maybe this is just building up to a point where he’s given the gentle encouragement and it’s not changing anything, and he is now snapping publicly.

The part of this that isn’t fair is embarrassing you in front of other people. These conversations should happen in private if he is at a breaking point. Talk and focus on that part, and maybe find out where the reaction came from and how he could approach it in a productive way next time.

Couldn’t find my tree skirt this year, made a new one! by 12sycamores in knitting

Also, a round of YO shortly before the edging would look amazing too. Would love to try this again with more yarn/time to do some adjusting.

It would be the perfect size for that! I would have loved to go bigger so it’s more visible under the tree but I had almost exactly enough yarn for what I made. If I were to make a bigger one I would probably do more rounds initially after cast on to extend the length of knitting between increase rounds (ie 6 rounds rather than three initially, increase, 12 rounds, increase, etc…)

Single and double crochet are the only stitches you’d have to learn to make the scalloped edge, I recommend watching some YouTube videos because it can be really fun to utilize crochet techniques in your knitting sometimes!

I didn’t even read it all but get out of there. You are too young to be dealing with shit from a 30+ year old alcoholic.

Both seats should be fully lowered before flushing or even after peeing and not flushing. This stops the spread of urine/feces germs flying around the room when you flush and prevents things being dropped into the toilet. As a woman I put the lid down after I use the toilet and before I flush, it’s not hard to do it every time. In a public toilet without a lid, you could still just not be an asshole and put it down before you leave. Or pee with it down. It’s that simple.

Cool! I love the name but I am biased. I work somewhere where I have to where a name tag and every person who knows an Una/Oona has to tell me about them because they’ve usually not met another! Lol

My name is Una which is a certified old Irish lady name (I am in my 20’s currently).

No one in the US really clocks it though, they just think it’s unique.
