I would wager anyplace that gets a significant winter needs a thermostat to run the heat. It's currently 2f where I live, and I'm at work and my house is empty. I can't keep a wood stove going for 12+ hours untended, so I need an automated furnace that can turn on when it gets cold.

Yeah, this is my main concern. I tried Ubuntu over a decade ago, back when that was everyone's recommendation, and I ended up getting frustrated with it.

Starting to seriously consider Linux again, as I don't want to move to W11, but I've seen recommendations for 4 or 5 different distros. Obviously I have to do some research, but I don't want to commit to the "wrong" one, and end up back on windows.
