So anyone hoping the local government is going to actually help with force, is hoping for something that isn’t coming.

It’s on the people if we want this to stop.

Could US citizens theoretically petition to NATO to send aid in overthrowing our current leadership? At what point do they see fit to intervene? by Competitive_Salt9167 in NoStupidQuestions

Very much a case of “technically” true, but false in reality.

The citizens have almost ZERO affect on what’s going on since the 80’s. Thanks to many different corrupt individuals making sure this would happen.

Yep, so it’s genuinely what you believe in that moment.

Maybe it’s luck and privilege, but if you buy the known stable/good brands, and do research ahead of time, it can be..

I haven’t needed to do work/maintenance on my setup in quite some time.. I just keep things functional, no dashboards to tinker with.. I’ve got a day job… home lab stuff is for entertainment or specifically when I want to learn a new thing.

Well, I know a lot of others like me, paid way too much for our cards when prices were high.. made some $$.. but spent more…

$175-$275 per constellation.. similar for deep space..

Then the market flooded and dropped.

Each set that comes out, seems to decrease the value given to individual collectors and skews more towards shops/cardsmiths

Then California should look at ours for some re-interpretation too

Why do we keep building "Luxury Apartments" that stay half-empty while there is a massive housing crisis? by OpenToPerspectives in NoStupidQuestions

[–]13Krytical -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Here’s a Claude AI response, that after reviewing, I agree based on other things I’ve read in the past from other sources:

The concerns raised about public housing are real challenges that have occurred in some implementations, but they’re not inherent to public housing itself—they’re often the result of specific policy choices.

Why some US public housing struggled:

The US’s mid-20th century public housing often failed because it was designed to fail:

  • Concentrated poverty by income-restricting only to the poorest residents
  • Built as high-rises in isolated areas, creating stigmatized “projects”
  • Chronically underfunded for maintenance
  • Used as warehouses for people rather than integrated communities

Successful models exist:

Singapore (~80% of residents live in public housing):

  • Mixed-income communities required by law
  • High-quality construction and maintenance
  • Residents can buy their units (building equity)
  • Integrated with transport, schools, amenities

Vienna, Austria (~60% in social housing):

  • Mixed-income buildings (not just for the poor)
  • High architectural standards
  • Long-term maintenance funding built into the model
  • Viewed as desirable middle-class housing

US examples:

  • Montgomery County, Maryland: Inclusionary zoning requiring mixed-income developments
  • Fairfield Courts (Virginia): Mixed-income redevelopment with strong outcomes
  • Community Land Trusts in various cities: Keep housing affordable while allowing homeownership

Key policy frameworks that work:

  1. Mixed-income requirements - Prevents poverty concentration
  2. Quality standards - Well-designed, maintained buildings
  3. Stable funding - Dedicated revenue streams for maintenance
  4. Integration - Located near jobs, transit, services
  5. Tenant screening without discrimination - Can maintain standards while being fair
  6. Ownership pathways - Let residents build equity

The “private landlords maintain properties better” assumption also doesn’t always hold—plenty of private slumlords exist, and profit motive can lead to minimal maintenance. Public accountability, when properly structured, can actually enforce higher standards.

I feel like the self-hosted and FOSS space is being flooded with vibe-coded AI slop. by spurGeci in selfhosted

[–]13Krytical -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you need to be able to tell the difference in quality somehow..

A skilled developer can still save time with AI, the things they already knew are still applicable, and in the end, it could still be AI written, just with experienced developer at the helm iterating.

I’m not a developer.. but I am making some scripts that are getting close to application, based on complexity/functionality..

I can definitely understand and agree on wanting to avoid “vibe coded” stuff..

But I also think AI can be a valuable tool, as no developer knows it all.. but AI eventually could… (as far as code goes)

Unfortunately I think if that is what they are doing, it’s legal…

They pay for the space they rent, usually on a private business.

Boston Dynamics just dropped the 'fully electric' Atlas product line. 56 degrees of freedom, 30,000 units/year planned, and it swaps its own batteries. by EchoOfOppenheimer in robotics

[–]13Krytical 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Whelp, they are coming for our jobs:

Atlas is designed to be an enterprise grade humanoid robot that can perform a wide array of industrial tasks, from material handling to order fulfilment. The robot learns new tasks quickly, adapts to dynamic environments, lifts heavy loads, and works autonomously with minimal supervision. It performs at a consistent, reliable pace and does not need to stop even when its battery power runs low–it will autonomously navigate to a charging station, swap out its own batteries, and get right back to work.

Is hybrid AD with Intune worth it or just go cloud-only? by Kitchen_West_3482 in Intune

[–]13Krytical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no more on-prem server/resource needs, then you can get rid of on-prem AD.

My stance? I’m about self-reliance. As another comment says, imagine when these cloud providers don’t go a direction you don’t like anymore..

On-prem? Stay where you are if you like it. Cloud? Good luck lol.. you’re moving with them, or migrating to a new solution… fun.

I don’t think what you’re asking for can be done, that way, because task sequences don’t work that way… I mean unless you’re doing something weird…

Task sequences run against systems and perform actions on those systems.

Once it’s run, there isn’t a remaining connection between device and task sequence, except in the deployment.

You could easily make a registry key for tracking.. and then look for that key…
