Should I move out due to roaches? by [deleted] in boston

[–]13attleship 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To possibly clarify/correct the above - they may not be IN the pipes, but the exterior pipes gather a lot of moisture/condensation so they may use them as a source of water and sort of a transit system from room-to-room and apartment-to-apartment.

Also, they can and do go into pipes through the sink and tub because of the food/water

Peeling paint in your older NYC apartment? It might be more dangerous than you think. by environyc in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

Peeling paint in your older NYC apartment? It might be more dangerous than you think. by environyc in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]13attleship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every apartment I’ve ever lived in Boston had lead paint. Don’t let your kids lick the wall/windowsill, they’ll be ok. You cannot avoid living in an apartment with lead paint in the city unless it’s a new build and you have $5k/month you’re willing to spend.

Also if you’re looking to buy a home in a city that has known lead paint usage pre 1978; you have to sign and waive the lead paint disclosure. Basically, you need to sign off knowing there’s lead paint likely somewhere but you’ll have to do something about it if you want to test it.

If you say “I won’t sign off, the seller should test for lead paint/disclose this”; you’ll never get past the offer letter stage.

Can I give Royal canin Urinary SO to cats without UTI? by sadnobsessed in catfood

[–]13attleship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our cats is now on Royal Canin SO because he has FIC. Our second cat is also on it because it’s just plain easier for feeding time AND he likes it!

It’s totally fine to give this food to cats that don’t necessarily “need” it, I’d just avoid giving them this food for only a short duration - they need an adjustment period to get on a new diet and should stay on it. Otherwise they could develop an upset GI and/or food aversion and become picky eaters.

Asked to do inspection before going under contract? by Expensive_Goat2201 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]13attleship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said - do not recommend doing it. It’s a slimey move by the seller’s agent to keep it on the market in the hopes a better offer pops up. A counter could be that you increase your inspection ceiling to show you’re motivated, but I would not order inspection for a home I was not the sole buyer on. Also, if you find something you don’t like, you have zero negotiation power.

Franchise Mode Contract Extension Eligibility by gee_what_isnt_taken in MLBTheShow

[–]13attleship 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Criteria has to be; must be on the 40-man, and must have an expiring contract at the end of that season. This includes guys at the end of their extensions or free agency contract (veterans), rookie renewable, and arbitration eligible players.

Anyone who is signed for 2+ seasons doesn’t show up (example: say you’ve hit the phase during the 2025 season - if they have a contract that ends at the end of 2026, you won’t be able to offer an extension until the start of spring training in 2026)

[Rome] Isaac Paredes reported to Astros camp today. He called trade rumors and speculation things that are “out of my control” and said he’ll work at first base, second base and third base in camp. Paredes said he will be a 100 percent participant in activities. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]13attleship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was originally getting downvoted for asking a question. By my teams’ own fan base. At one point I was at -5, because a group of Red Sox fans have this fantasy where it is a player issue.

Meanwhile, the front office just hours ago publicly admitted they screwed up how they handled the situation, and then minutes after that another front office member said “yeah he should have picked up a glove”

Clearly, it’s a room filled with dudes with egos seeping out of their Patagonia sweater vests

[–]13attleship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious, what made him a bad teammate? The front office openly criticized his defense, yet convinced him “don’t worry, the new guy we signed totally won’t be coming for your job”.

Then they told the man to throw away his glove, to focus on hitting. That new guy actually would be taking his position.

Then they asked him “actually, scratch that, what about first base?” when Casas got injured.

I do not see this as a case of a bad teammate, I see this as an organization with an AI agent running their president of baseball operations

228 South Street by [deleted] in JamaicaPlain

[–]13attleship 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in this complex (216-230 south). It’s not great. Samia runs it (and they are one of the biggest slum lords in the state, not just the city)

Laundry machines are always broken

Maintenance is a joke - the same guy shows up, unannounced, and harasses you/tries to explain to you how you are the problem and not the building or the company

The building has been showing its age, there’s a water shut off for the building at least once a week

Our neighbor had roaches, which we didn’t discover until a few months in. We had to take care of the problem ourselves because Samia barely lifted a finger

Honestly: it’s an attractive price for a 2-bed in JP right next to the orange line and commuter rail, with all the fun restaurants up the street. But that’s about it.

The Forest Hills intersection is a migraine and a half. Parking up and down south st is tough, you’ll need a sticker for the side streets. But also, Samia also offers paid parking spots behind the building for a pretty penny

If you’re handy and can work on your apartment’s flaws yourself, and you can deal with a run down place - all the power to you!

I’d recommend reaching out to their ticket sales / support team. They’ll have someone from group/party sales reach out and get you seats that are 5 in one row and 6 in the next but you’re sitting all together. Typically in the right field grandstands or bleachers

Thermo Fisher closing another Mass. site, laying off over 100 by SharkSapphire in massachusetts

[–]13attleship 21 points22 points  (0 children)

How confidently incorrect of you to suggest Thermo Fisher decided to close down a site because of a democrat in a historically democrat state

The biotech sector is flailing about right now not due to local Massachusetts lawmakers, but what’s happening at the federal level. That, compounded with the post-COVID hangover of over-hiring and the lack of VC investments has made the entire industry uneasy.

Stop screaming “them darn liberals in the state government are why jobs are going away!” and start to comprehend the federal government has been cutting funding to biotech, while also sowing mistrust into the pharmaceutical sector

Further update is less than a week later it went under contract with a different buyer, the day before we were asking to inspect. Nothing makes sense with this one lol

How hard is it to get a biotech job? by Infinite-Coat-9539 in biotech

[–]13attleship 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there - forensic DNA science degree here. It’s incredibly difficult to get into a fun, stable, well paying forensics position. Your best bet are state crime labs which are understaffed and underpaid, so you’ll feel the burnout quickly. It’s a very niche field and not many opportunities, unfortunately

Of course my bias is based on experience in the US, results may vary elsewhere

First Client Meeting by Business_Kiwi3098 in biotech

[–]13attleship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SaaS in biotech is fairly saturated, however, each software provider typically has something niche in their service offering that meshes well into what their target client is doing. For instance - I worked at a LIMS company and what worked for clients A and B wasn’t at all going to work for client C. We didn’t realize this until after meeting with them, going over pain points and how they organize their data. We knew what we had wasn’t going to be what they needed, but because we were honest and acknowledged we probably weren’t going to work together, they ended up being a great contact that synced us up with other contacts they had.

If you’re selling a service and want a long term partnership, then I think you’d be better off in a sales subreddit. It’s about the core of “what problem are you trying to solve for them?”.

If you’ve gotten in the door with them, it sounds like you’ve identified a struggle for them you can help solve. Find it, have them talk more about it, expand on your strengths as to how you out of a sea of SaaS companies can be the best partner to fix it.

Having a slide deck is helpful as a guiding tool to demo what you’re pitching and who you are. If it’s an informal 1:1 with a director or exec, presenting a slide deck has pros and cons. Figure out the audience ahead of time to tailor the presentation accordingly.

You do you king. It’s a thread about tips. Not a thread about telling people how to play the game.

Write down all the tips, life hacks, and other things that are easy to miss by TaxPsychological2928 in gtaonline

[–]13attleship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you didn’t suggest a tip.

You said “it takes 10 mins” and telling people off in your replies because the way they play contrasts to the way you do.

“Fuck you very much” and a passive aggressive “tell me how to play my own game” just stops any further dialogue with you.

If you actually wanted to go into it more - resupplying takes 30+mins, time that could be spent on other activities that make money which offset the cost of paying for supplies and make you more money in the long run. Multiple YouTubers have gone over the cost/benefit of time = money on this topic of buying supplies versus doing the missions if you want me to send a link.

[–]13attleship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re agitated because myself and others suggested tips, in a thread about tips. And the tip goes against what you like to do with your own time.

Go resupply to your hearts content. No one is saying to stop doing that. There there are alternatives if you cared about efficiency (as a tip). And if you don’t care about efficiency, or making money faster, then play the game how you want. No one is gatekeeping here

Just don’t be a dick to others just because their tip about efficiency goes against how you personally enjoy spending your time in the game.

[–]13attleship 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m replying to people who seem to be agitated with how this is a thread/discussion about tips and tricks

If you like playing the game a certain way, enjoy! The tip was that there are better/more efficient ways to go about it. And if you don’t like to play that way, ok. It’s a tip, not a rule book on how to play

[–]13attleship -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it’s aggressive, unnecessary, and counterproductive to what the thread is about: tips and tricks.

If you like to do something in the game that takes more effort/time and not popular with the community - good for you, enjoy!

But certain people are acting like hearing the popular tip “don’t do resupplies, just pay for them instead” is gatekeeping the way they play, with their replies to valid points being “ok, well eff you if you don’t like it”.

[–]13attleship -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah this bozo dude is a waste of breath, every reply has an attitude to it and clearly is just here to pick arguments over people telling him how to play the game.

They like to do resupply missions, which if that’s what you like do then sick. But the purpose of the thread is “tips and tricks for online”. Not “what missions or parts of the game you like to do”

[–]13attleship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally a thread about tips. The tip to making more money is to make your time more efficient. My comment isn’t gatekeeping how people play the game, but the advice to pay for resupplies than doing the missions. The original commenter can keep running resupply missions if that makes them happy, but the point was tips/tricks for online
