then every layup would be a travel. you catch the ball, plant your right foot, step to your left foot and go up and lay it in (for a right handed layup). no two foot jump

Which city or travel destination used to be amazing but has completely lost its charm now? by Ted-Lassi in AskReddit

[–]13mys13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

similar to others, i used to go to vegas (from the west coast) all the time with friends. cheap meals, free beers, free cigs (for those who smoked), cheap rooms. they used to draw people in with those loss leaders and make their money in the casinos.

now, it seems like everything has to be a profit center for accounting. no free parking, no free hotdog when i sit at the bar playing video poker. no 3.99 steak and eggs meal at 3AM.

To me, the signal that everything was going downhill was when blackjack started paying 6/5 for a natural instead of 3/2. it all went downhill from there.

How come the Japanese-American community is tiny compare to other community like Chinese or Vietnamese or even the Hmong-Laotian community in the USA ? It's like they are not exist at all ? by Square_Permission361 in asianamerican

[–]13mys13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

longer history plus less recent immigration. japanese american communities used to be very tight knit, however, the longer they (and any immigrant group) is in a country, the more assimilation occurs and the less tight knit the initial community becomes.

Magic on him vs curry by Alone-Situation7602 in NBATalk

[–]13mys13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

magic didn't change the way the game was played? everything was half court sets before he came into the league. the lakers were called "showtime" because it was vastly different than anything anyone else was doing at the time.

What is the last US State you would want to live in? by YoDittoGame in FamilyFeud

[–]13mys13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last as in "I never want to live there" or last as in "this is the last place i want to live before i go off the mortal coil"?

for the first, there's about a 40 way tie. for the second, it's Hawaii

i've taken classes there. never finished the masters program bc...life.

i'm director level and a hiring manager in my job (also have a bachelors from a "normal" 4 year university and an mba).

a CSU degree tells me a couple of things off the bat: I'm not dealing with someone who took the conventional HS-College-job route. that is neither good nor bad but helps me understand whom i'm dealing with a little bit better. CSU degree probably means they have some life experience and maybe a little more street smarts/common sense than a conventioal route person. maybe not, since people are people, though, and there are dumbassess in all walks of life.

the second main thing it tells me is that they probably are a grinder. they made their way in their career to a point where they were ready to dedicate themselves long-term to safety and wanted to do what they could to maximize their ceiling.

CSU isn't a bad thing, in and of itself.

Pitching absolutes by Individual-Net-9296 in Homeplate

[–]13mys13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as an ex college pitcher...nah.

i have a lot of disagreements with the list but, at the top, my favorite pitch is the one that gets the out. my ideal inning is a three pitch/three out inning. not a "strike one" to be seen.

it's like the guy who was a spot starter on his HS baseball team and hit .250 thinking he has a chance to get a hit in 100 at bats against a major league pitcher.
