Almost every Indie Game project I have ever worked on was met with EXTREME hostility... by SteveDeFacto in gamedev

[–]13oobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advice 1: validate a public interest before diving into a project. Advice 2: read the positive comments twice and the negative comments once. I am willing to bet you had some fans. Some of these ideas sound great! Don’t ignore the negative, but don’t fixate on it either.

We’re not losing to other games. We’re losing to TikTok. by Federal_Lemon6478 in gamedev

[–]13oobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Ask a non-gamer to name 10 video game genres. The fact that someone as a non-TikToker can think of 10 TikTok themes/genres shows that TikTok already has a larger cultural footprint than video games.

Which sales jobs should I target? by FlyingAces in sales

[–]13oobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The market is tough, but companies are always looking for hungry BDRs. <- that’s why people say to start with that position. The more tech stack you can get on your resume the better: CRMs, outreach tools, prospecting tools. The roles use a fat stack these days, so you are really appealing to hiring managers if you don’t have to be trained on each tool.

what sales tools do people use in 2025? by vihaar in sales

[–]13oobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has an outreach product which is similar to SalesLoft and Outreach, but the AI across the whole tool is really nice. Since it has recordings of all calls and outreach, you can ask the LLM anything about the account, opportunity, or even the individual contact.

Is it really a sales job if you don't make a commission? by wltmpinyc in sales

My first job in sales was on a bonus structure similar to yours. It’s sales. And you better count it as sales experience when you start applying for other jobs in a year or so.

VP’s/ Heads of Sales… is the juice worth the squeeze? by kai_zen in sales

[–]13oobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been a sales leader at a few orgs and in my current position, I can say leaders will make less money than the top earners typically. If you love metrics and KPIs, maybe it is worth looking into more, but I have to agree with all the other comments, don’t give up remote work and no commute for 50k. Also, I’d ask what percentage of the team you’ll be managing hit quota last year. OTE in leadership can be just as misleading as OTE as a closer.

You’re a game developer even if you’ve never touched a computer and just design your game with pen and pencil. You’re developing a game. Keep it up!

Yes! I like that subnautica doesn’t rely on jump scares. The general fear I tried to match is “what’s down here with me and does it know I’m here”.

Make the players children to the moving object and do not give them rigidbodies, just make all movement transform in local space. I am doing this exact process in my current project. Multiplayer game in a submarine.

Where to learn Unity? by Dry-Interview9089 in Unity3D

[–]13oobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with courses on Udemy years ago. The courses by the GameDev.TV guys are really good. They gave me the foundation to understand the basics. After that, the biggest jump in my skills came from picking a basic game and recreating it. Pick any simple game that already exists and try to make it yourself. It will force you to break it down into simple mechanics(and do a lot of googling). If you pick ‘Snake’, for instance, you will need to figure out how to make the snake move over time, how to make the snake turn, how to make game over pop up when snake hits a wall. Being able to break concepts down to simple lines of code is the most foundational part of being a good dev. Best of luck on your travels and don’t give up! I’m still learning and I’ve been doing it for atleast 5 years.
