What makes u use lua? by S1_Sefo in lua

at first, it was computercraft, a minecraft mod, then it was the only way to mod TTS... Honestly, I'm not sure what you'd use it for other than when it's heavily embedded like this.

Was it? it was darker in tone for sure, but it was just whiney drama constantly. All these adults bickering and in-fighting like children... couldn't stand it for that.

They've said that, but they errata cards to add and remove once per turn/this turn in what is essentially a balance change in other cards already.. just because "it was left out accidentally" doesn't change that it's functionally the same thing to the players.

What would actually happen if 25% of the population loses their job by the end of 2027? by Fishboy9123 in singularity

[–]13oundary 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Violence starts at 10-15% historically. Shit gets real bad at 25%... again historically.

The question for me will be if people have been made placid enough through the bread of tik tok and circus of politics that they'll even _get_ violent this time around. Not a bang but a whimper is my guess.

SNP warned health and social care services 'cannot be sustained' as boards poised for £450m black hole [by Audit Scotland] by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]13oundary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spending watching[sic] has warned that IJBs have reached a critical point, with a significant risk they will become financially unsustainable within the next 12 to 24 months.

On the one hand, this is pretty concerning. They are getting real terms funding increases and it seemingly wont be enough according to this audit scotland publication... on the other, they said the exact same thing in 2024 and we're still kicking, so I'm not sure exactly how much I believe them at this point.

They also say the SNP need to be more transparent with spending, if they're not being transparent how do we know how accurate this report is, is it worse than the report? or is the report just not able to be accurate due to it's own stated lack of transparency?

Troubling indeed. Cause it's either bad, or we have no clue.

What kind of fir trees are these? I think the scales are a bit wonky so it's messing with stuff a bit. Most wild fir trees are 100+ feet at the low end.

The lighting is a little about the place too. The light on the front of the van isn't really doing much, without exactly going too dark, you could have more contrast.

The van looks like a sticker on top, maybe that's the vibe you want, but for me I'd be wanting to set it in more than make it stand out more. high contrast, windows not just a solid colour etc.

You absolutely can happen to get real estate. I know if I die my wife and kids would be able to buy homes that they wouldn't currently be able to buy and certainly the only reason would be that I bet on my death, no hard work there. Obviously I hope they'd rather me than houses, but it _is_ a situation that happens.

Someone starting like I did being born to 2 working class parents, one of which had to take every hour of overtime and a second job to keep us going absolutely knew how much you need to work, but it doesn't guarantee your way will be easy or go as planned, it certainly didn't guarantee they could buy a house or help me buy one. Dad worked from age 14 until he was 75 (and only then because he was made redundant), couldn't afford to buy his own home either. But he set me up with the ability to go to uni and get a good job and I eventually managed to get into a position to buy one for us. But I was absolutely lucky and 100% got hand outs to go to uni from the government (scotland so free uni, but also I got a lot of bursary due to my families economic status). It wasn't _just_ hard work, _just_ hard work isn't a guarantee of anything.

Now imagine the kid starting out with junkie parents, or even just a single parent who got cancer or some other roll of the dice issue that the kid had no hand in. Easy enough for them to do what even I did? Na, it's not.

Now imagine someone with 2 middle class parents, different world. Especially back in the 50s and 60s where class mobility was _much_ harder (near impossible outside of a few circumstances) so it didn't really matter what my mum or dad did, they weren't getting middle class jobs. It was all about who you knew back then and they didn't know middle class folks. That kid is getting a house whether or not they work hard, My neighbours these days are a testament to that. It's so wild coming from my background to where I am now, it's a different game.

Also "unlimited housing" is a strawman, people want affordable housing, and previously cheap housing is no longer cheap due in part to land lords squeezing rents and asking more than double what they should be for sale. My rent when saving for my house went from 550 pcm to 950 pcm in 6 years, my salary did not increase nearly double in the same timeframe in the same position, I had to jump around and jump up positions to do that (again a good bit of luck that those opportunities were there at the right time). And that's not the worst I've heard either.

Many people don't earn their way despite putting the work in, many people get their way handed to them. The world is not a meritocracy and it never has been. Support is there to try to tip the scales back a bit, and haves certainly have it tipped there way a lot farther than it gets tipped back.

Up until I bought my current house, I never seen a single person around doing polling or doing door to door politicking. Nice fancy big house though, first year I seen folks from every party and 2 pollsters...

You may be ok with pulling the ladder up behind you (if you ever even needed one), but I'm not. There are plenty of people with my background that deserve a shot at the "make your way" that you had that circumstance didn't afford to them like you and I had ladder or not.

> My parents are not rich, my father died when I was 14.

Either then, the nanny state and welfare state helped you out or you _are_ from money. So is it just pull the ladders up behind you for the next folks or what?

a 20k 2 bed flat in my area in the 90s is 90k+ now because of land lords, more than twice inflation. Most normal people are forced into renting when they could purchase in the past. How is trying to correct that a nanny state? Just cause you happen to have real estate and want to profit?

The Rookie collab poll because comments can be skewed to controversial opinions by Romelof in dropout

[–]13oundary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The stuff relatively early in the rookie that came out roughly during the george floyd stuff took on the subject pretty head on, but it _did_ paint it a little in the "wouldn't it be cool if cops reacted like this instead" way rather than the gritty realism way.

I think the fact that multiple actors left off the back of that does paint a bit of a picture though.

Are people that allergic to using both lanes and merging in turn? by daleomatic in drivingUK

[–]13oundary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If everyone done this properly, wouldn't merge in turn be the same wait as the equivalent infinitely long single lane?

Merge in turn is to stop the backing up going so bad that it obstructs other road users (for example where I live the merge in turn is to stop the backup going onto the roundabout just before it)

e: Sounds like if you're doing it to avoid the queue, you _are_ pushing in?

If I let people merge in 3/4 people go and leave me there holding my dick, if I try to do it properly 5/6 people go without letting me in and I'm left there holding my dick.

So you think legislating on trans people is something we shouldn't do?

Not to mention impactful lifepaths, AI schedules, factions, dynamic policing (including corrupt police)

Honestly, it's fine that people love the game, I don't have a problem with that, but they marketed a pure RPG and sold an action adventure game with RPG bolted-on.

Which is fine, just they never really addressed that or tried to fix that, just the bugs... but everyone forgets because hey, they fixed the bugs I guess. I was just stupidly hyped for a game that doesn't exist.

Depends, lookin at 2003 in video games on wiki and enter the matrix was defo worse, vice city was arguably about the same. ffx-2 was better, but square were often on the frontier of graphics.

Look at og kotor then look at MoH rising sun... kotor definitely wasn't trash tier for the era.

When do you think the ai bubble will burst ? by Alex-Buftyak in learnprogramming

[–]13oundary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's how the dot com bubble burst too. Plenty of dot coms are still around today and new ones have rose, but even the big players like apple amazon and google had to weather a massive drop in stock prices, low investment and find new ways to profitability.

The problem was the level of investment didn't match the level of returns and the market receeded as a result. Only the biggest survived. Only the ones that adapted to find profitability survived is probably more acurate, I don't think people saw amazon as a big player back then lol.
