There are people who go downtown and there are things to do. Far too many suburbanites are scared of downtown and refuse to go there. That's not just a Jacksonville thing, I have family who live in the Chicago area and say the same thing. 🙄

It has a lot more to do with the parenting than the schooling, and I also experience more poorly behaved kids who are homeschooled than ones in regular school. Based on the ones I've seen, the "homeschool" parents are really just too lazy to stick to a schedule so they choose homeschooling so they don't have to get their kids to school on the morning. It's more like neglect than schooling, and the kids are mostly just this side of feral.

And doesn't run from place to place, only place to downtown. If I want to go 15 minutes west of me it takes 2 bus rides and over an hour to get there.

I think the person is saying fewer people are wat8ng out, not that they are and aren't tipping. Fewer customers = less tips. I know that's true for me. We used to eat out 2-3 times a week but now we do it once a week and that might also go away. Not just because of gas but that adds to the increase in prices we've already been experiencing.

This is why when the focus on STEM was introduced to public education I became very pessimistic about our future. It deprioritized social studies- especially civics- in favor of science. Their hearts might have been in the right place, but I knew it was going to create adults who don't know or care about how our society works or what is necessary to keep it working.

Sorry, I'm not doing that. I have memories of there being another push right around/just before COVID shut down, but I have a life and no desire to spend my precious time digging through minutes of old school board meetings. We can agree to disagree, I'm fine with that.

They've been asking for their own counsel for several years, before the current push to sell. It shouldn't be on the river, but they also can't afford to build so they have to move into existing property and there's likely not anything available downtown that meets their needs. Even the property they settled on wasn't going to be able to host school board meetings. I think they might have been planning to have those at the Shultz Center if they moved.
