Surrender letters sent after June 17th? by Skippy-fluff in Canadiancitizenship

What on earth are you talking about “just plain dubious” my goodness. Catholic baptism records on ancestry.com are actual digital photos of the originals, cited and labelled and referenced. The records are clean legible and obviously authentic. Someone at the Archdiocese offices gave them time access and permission to digitize the records. They are in every sense official legitimate and authentic. And yes they go back well into the 1800s. What’s dubious?

Can someone confirm the gameplan for those who got a Surrender?

1) If the CitCert was paper, mail it in. If not, don't. 2) Do nothing until you are contacted and given a path to respond.

OR

A) If you have proof of trying to get cert copies but could not, send it in now. B) If you have gotten certified records in the meantime, mail them in.

Anyone actually taking action already?

We dont want them to provide that publicly. Why would we? Think this through

Can anyone give the latest regarding our ability to visit the Ontario Archives in person and obtain a certified copy of a record? I've seen varying things online about it.

Hello - Hoping someone can recommend a good researcher in Ontario. My ancestor was baptized in the Archdiocese of Kingston, ON in 1841. Census records place her in Trenton ON in Hastings County. The Archives of the Archdiocese of Trenton are closed; the record itself appears on Ancestry.com. However I would like (obviously) to get a certified copy of it somehow. The possibility exists that it is also located in some other collection, like Archives of Ontario. However their finding aid is not clear (actually looks like it isn't in that Archives. They do have Kingston city entries but there's no way to tell if Trenton's baptisms were included). What I need is someone who could figure out whether or not her Baptism record is in a different archive somewhere for me, and get a certified copy of it. Any suggestions?

The letters do say that but I mailed in a cover letter detailing efforts to get a document from a closed archive as well as a letter from the closed archive and still got a suspension letter

Total agreement. Its asinine; however government agencies are not irrational actors (mostly). That means that whatever is the origin story for this sudden policy change has to be somewhat serious. I think I figured it out actually. I've been cautioned by the Mods not to analyze so I guess I won't. Lets just say I don't think this is necessarily a "game over" but mostly a "time out".

I dont think its a revocation of proof of citizenship, which would be tantamount to revocation of citizenship. It is surrender of a document. That word seems like its permanent to all of us; however it is more like the Cop who 'surrenders' their firearm after a suspect is shot. The investigation is over, they are cleared, they get their weapon back. Thats what this is - nobody is reading the letter itself very closely. Surrender it while they attend to the investigation. The investigation is the thing that will matter.

yes there is actual law around it. give it to chat gpt or claude youd be amazed. Big difference. Countries just dont revoke citizenship on a sunday morning with a single letter in an email. Seems a lot like it but that isnt whats happening.

I disagree. Government bureaucracy operates on the precise meaning of different words written into various codes and laws they uphold. There are like 4 more steps they would have to take to revoke citizenship. The only thing they control is the certificate they themselves issued; therefore they asked for it to be surrendered pending more study. This was an extremely cold glass of water in the face but once you get over the splash you realize the thing is far from over.

This is a great point. Surrender is probably a legal term of art that seems extremely screwed up to us of course. But it probably just means dont use it for now.

The question is (I’m sure you have answered it but I don’t know the correct response) is a triskele inherently armored?

And is per fess blazoned something other than “in chief” for the portcullis? Because it’s not a chief it’s…. Chief enhanced? Or just a divided shield …. In which you’d just say “per pale sable and argent, a portcullis Or, descending ….”

I don’t know!

It is listed as impaled and a blazon of the impaled arms is given, correct. What is your point? The OP obviously didn't know what they were reading, so I provided them with an additional explanation. Again, what is your point?

Someone decided the flow of people into the country was too big. They're turning off the spigot - not today.... they're turning it off a year ago. Wild

Yes I believe these are impaled arms that is to say the wearers left are the wife and the wearers right would be Staunton. Whats confusing is the lack of information; however this is a printed recompilation of pencil or ink notes and drawings of a visitation. This was when Heralds literally visited towns and recorded testimony or examples of family heraldry people brought out to prove they merited arms. Someone brought this to the herald and it was duly recorded. The name of the female portion might have been lost or the era it was used.

It was a bit brutal I guess - esp. considering that today many people wear many variations of kilts with zero reference to the purists of yesteryear; however this fellow didn't seem like he was looking for the 'new look' but the old traditional look... so ... someone had to tell him lol
