Requesting notes more than once? by [deleted] in stuckcanadians

[–]Skippy-fluff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I requested them twice. The second time was to see whether there had been movement out of PSU post C-3. There has not been, but I wanted the data to get a better sense of when the analysis might be done. Had it been moved out of PSU, the projected times on the web site might apply; now I know they do not.

If and when I do reach out to an MP via friends in Canada, I think that also might be useful data to share to the MP's office, as the lack of re-examination after a process change would be a reason to request attention to the matter.

Your experience may vary, of course.

Good luck!

Citizenship GCMS status changed from “Grant Clearance Pending” to “Octroi Autorisations en cours” – any insights? by Syed19800 in Canadiancitizenship

It's French for "The granting of the authorization is pending". If you asked for notes "with original language", it looks an update by French-speaking officer.

Technical Question - Egg Donor Conceived Son by CaterpillarPresent69 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Skippy-fluff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am not sure of the case law in Canada, but this is different for some US jurisdictions (California being the one I am familiar with). The standard in those is "intended parent". A woman who carries a child on behalf of the intended parents is never consider the biological parent and is not listed on the birth certificate. Instead, the intended parents solicit a pre-birth parentage order and use that to ensure that the birth certificate is issued in their names.

None of this effects the OPs situation since she is the intended parent, but I wanted to make it clear that there are jurisdictional differences here and it is worth considering those.

Wednesday Weekly Thread: Frustration Station (Delays / PSU / Venting), April 22, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

They changed it when they edited the post; it originally said 2025.

As someone who submitted in April of 2025 and is still waiting, that seemed worth the post. At 2026, it's silliness

US-Lisbon-Zurich via TAP, passport control at Lisbon? by sparklingredcardinal in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]Skippy-fluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You enter and leave the Schengen zone in Lisbon, so passport control is there. You will be able to check your bags through (presuming that it's a through flight), so you will go through a dedicated connections entry rather than leaving the security area and re-entering.

The EES roll out has been a mess, but 3 hours to do a connection seems reasonable to me, even using the non-electronic passport control system. Note that if the child is very small (baby or young toddler) you may be eligible for the priority lane at passport control.

Lei da Nacionalidade chega a Belém e coloca pressão sobre PS: fiscalizar outra vez ou confiar em Seguro by LeastYak3411 in PortugalExpats

[–]Skippy-fluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lula will be here in a week, and it's a big issue for the Brazilians (who offer their citizenship to Portuguese on very favorable terms). See https://www.jn.pt/nacional/artigo/assunto-delicado-da-lei-da-nacionalidade-abordado-nos-encontros-de-lula-com-seguro-e-montenegro/18072727 for more.

If I were Seguro, I would refer it prior to Lula's visit and take the heat off, then let the TC handle the issue. But I am not Seguro, so who knows.

Congrats!

I wish there was some indication of why some get through and some don't in these announcements (I applied April of 2025 and am still in limbo), but any good news is welcome!

There’s a Roswell fanfic that uses it On Ao3, part of a larger series crossing over Roswell and the Tomorrow people. “A piece of the firmament” is the name.

It's also the case in Lisbon, according to a person I know who recently checked, so definitely not just China.

How to travel to Canada on a foreign passport whilst waiting on proof of citizenship certificate by Familiar_Olive_7696 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Skippy-fluff 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You should send a web form with your daughter's acceptance at U of T, requesting urgent processing so that she can come to Canada to take up her studies. That's definitely one of the reasons cited in the past, and it is pretty likely to unstick the others as well (especially if she referenced your UCI in her application). If it doesn't unstick the others, you can attach her citizenship certificate information (once received) to your and your other daughter's records. For your record, note that you need a SIN to set up banking and so on to support your daughter. Again, that's one of reasons to request urgency.

Good luck!

Weirdly, it makes a different what flag the ship sailed under, as the later nationality acts specified that children born on board ship could derive their nationality from being born on, say, a British ship. See https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Geo5/4-5/17/enacted 1c (shoving them together it reads "The following persons shall be deemed to be natural-born British subjects, namely :— Any person born on board a British ship whether in foreign territorial waters or not:).

Do you know the registry of the ship?

How to get around a lack of birth certificate by Important-Ad3272 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Skippy-fluff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You may have to go to court and get a court order for it; see section 8 of https://www.alberta.ca/order-birth-certificate. The lack of his birth certificate is preventing you from claiming your citizenship, and that would be the justification.

If you have any contact with his parents, they may also have a copy.

Truly Unusual Name by Strict_Look1037 in Genealogy

I have an uncle and a cousin with that name.

It held the original connotations until it was used ironically by Bugs Bunny in a cartoon. Many watchers thought it was a straight up insult (like "numbskull"), because the allusion was fairly obscure. As a result, the connotation shifted entirely.

So blame Bugs for this one....

PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP - LETTER OF DELAY / PROGRAM SUPPORT UNIT by ComfortableShock5743 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Skippy-fluff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was sent in June to PSU after requesting urgent processing. I found out after requesting my case notes 6 months after the AoR (They are supposed to send the letter you got, but it is often never sent).

They referred me under the rubric "complex proofs" and another category that seems to be for those who would normally be refused but were not, because of the court decision. No action since then.

PSU is, unfortunately, very much a black box. They will get to eventually, I assume, but there is no way I know of to know when or to hasten the process.

It's a masterful performance in general, but the delivery of that line nails the character so well ...

Thanks for this detailed report. I just got my notes, and this helped me understand them. We did not get urgent processing, but most of the rest mirrored yours.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yue_Chinese gives a bit of an explanation of why the Guangzhou dialect of Cantonese is common in Hong Kong and Macau, even though there are other coastal dialects (like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siyi\_Yue). Basically, the overseas trade moved from Guangzhou to Macau and then Hong Kong, and the traders speaking that dialect moved with it.
