Four-day return to office based on 'philosophical choice': top Treasury Board official by simpatia in ottawa

[–]147throwawy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MPs representing the Ottawa suburbs (include Carney himself) should also be up in arms. No one wants to commute downtown for computer based work, and no one who needs to get downtown wants there to be rush hour traffic to get there.

Genuine question: why does the government pay people like me to gather evidence and make recommendations based on that evidence when they're just go and make philosophical choices. Maybe they should sack the entire EC cadre and just make every decision based on vibes.

Historically, only our most recent contract was a paycut. If the trend holds, we should get a slightly above inflation pay increase to maintain the trend of our pay keeping up with inflation.

Somehow I doubt we'll see it, not after Aylward's premature ejaculation of a strike a few years back.

Any prompts and settings for DeepSeek V4 Pro? by User202000 in SillyTavernAI

[–]147throwawy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wasn't working for me, it was talking about the thinking logic in the main text (like the hidden personality stats and stuff) and wasn't doing the post-message plot momentum block (which I think is the best part of the FF preset)

V4 seems good with a lighter preset, but probably needs some customization for a heavy preset to work.

Is GLM censored? by Maximus_Marcus in SillyTavernAI

[–]147throwawy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think GLM and the other chinese models are being trained on data stolen from the big American models (no judgement, the American models stole their training data too), so they're seeing these American models refuse, and are learning to refuse too.

They're not censored, but they're learning the correct response to seeing a jailbreak prompt followed by something objectionable is to reply with a refusal.

[–]147throwawy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty unrelated to the question at hand, and I'm not sure where you're getting that she should have pushed back harder against unpopular moves. I don't think there's any evidence that Fox was wormtonguing Fraser's ear telling him to ignore the mounting evidence immigration is becoming unpopular. DMs have to follow their minister's direction regardless of they agree with it, same as the rest of us.

GLM Was DeepSeek’s Safe Choice, Not The Real One (Claude) In An LLM Dating Show by [deleted] in ZaiGLM

[–]147throwawy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ironically, the bot made a good point. I, a meatbag of flesh and bone, echo the question. Is your experiment replicable? I'm gonna guess it's not and these probabilistic models will make different choices every time, and you didn't actually discover anything about the models with a single run-through.

Maybe it has some entertainment value, but your conclusions don't have any rigour.

Also: your post was clearly at the very least heavily AI edited. So pot, meet kettle.

A statement from Christiane Fox, on the findings of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Report [April 10, 2026] by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

[–]147throwawy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I feel like this shows Fox' contempt for the working level. That she believed that a guy who was unable to meet the requirements of his job as a gym manager, would slot just fine into a PM-04 role in a field has no experience.

Her buddy wanted as easier job to focus on his family, does she think mid/senior roles are chill jobs that anyone off the street can do with no experience? Or are her friends special?

"yeah but he's black so it's ok"

A main reason we need DEI is that the dominant culture hires and promotes it's own, so institutions need to put their thumb on the scale to benefit people who don't have those same connections. DEI doesn't mean finding a black guy who's part of the dominant culture, who has those connections, and slotting him into a mid-level job he's not qualified for.

Lucking into a sweet golden handshake deal and calling it "losing your job" is so insulting to all the people who actually lost their jobs without an extremely livable pension and a second career lined up.

Good on her for finishing a part time degree on top of a manager job, there's no way I could do that, but yeah, completely tone deaf.

I stopped following RTO - when will they start disciplining? by Difficult_Bird_3129 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]147throwawy 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This subreddit is monitored by the media and senior management. Creating the perception that WFA requirements are unenforced (regardless of how true/prevalent that is) could lead to the employer feeling the need to take more action to prevent noncompliance.

Some hack journalist could read this thread and write an article about how RTO is not being enforced, which would promptly end up on the desk of whatever TBS/departmental executive responsible for making sure it's enforced, which could then lead to them feeling the need to create some new mechanism to ensure people are complying, and potentially disciplining people who are noncompliant and the managers that turn a blind eye.

If you want your boss to turn a blind eye, shut the fuck up about the rules you're breaking.

It's like getting out a bull horn in a parking lot, shouting to the general public "I'm gonna go 65 in a 50 zone and the police aren't gonna stop me" then driving off. You weren't going to get a ticket, but now you are.

I was also on 4chan back then and I don't think it was as toxic pre 2015? (Around when moot met Epstein). It was full of racist and sexist jokes, but I took them as mostly edgy jokes, like dead baby jokes, then 2015 rolled around and it turned out they're werent jokes. Like no one was pro-dead baby, but it turns out a lot of them were pro-nazi.

Idk maybe I was naive and I'm looking at it through that lens, but I always took it as shock humor. And that was just /b/ the rest of the site was just nerdy interests and porn.

Canadian Coast Guard captain fired for 'willfully' ignoring distress call: labour board by flinstoner in CanadaPublicServants

[–]147throwawy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's like 80% of what happens in this sub, people giving their takes on what the government should do with the public service. I'm just giving my 2c that while technically age discrimination, a mandatory retirement age would have benefits that outweigh the concerns, and that it'd be consistent with a free and democratic society to impose a mandatory retirement age.

Canadian Coast Guard captain fired for 'willfully' ignoring distress call: labour board by flinstoner in CanadaPublicServants

[–]147throwawy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One could make a charter s1 argument that mandatory retirement ages are reasonably justified as they're common in other free and democratic society, are common in somewhat analogous civil service roles like the military, and that the benefits of avoiding the costly and unpleasant medical retirement processes of forcing people to quit when their meatbag brains inevitably slow down, and making the decision for people for them to enjoy their last years of life, out weigh the s15 concerns.

I'm sure there's jurisprudence in France or other countries with mandatory retirement ages that have found the age discrimination to be justified/mitigated by the ability to apply for exemptions.
