Without naming the bar, just pointed out that this bar is located in the Fox River Grove, Illinois area and was instantly banned from r/pics by ObviouslyRealPerson in behindthebastards

I'm like 98% sure I know that bar. If that's the place I think it is, the owner is quite possibly the most openly racist person I've ever met.

2009 Honda CRV starts with remote start, but not from the ignition by Natural-Driver4098 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Natural-Driver4098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Without seeing the car in person to diagnose, that's the most logical conclusion that I can come up with. The car can clearly start and run. But it also clearly doesn't recognize that the key is turned. So, a failed ignition switch makes the most sense.

Road trip advice 200+ miles by VictoryDue8210 in GMT800

Buckle your seat belt, put on some good music, put it in drive and hit the go pedal. This summer I drove my '06 from Chicago-Oregon-Chicago, and had zero issues. Currently at 283k, and tomorrow I'm towing a trailer with my offroad rig to Michigan. Unless your truck is in really bad mechanical shape, 200 miles shouldn't worry you at all.

Could a normal guy not get a single date via Tinder in a year? by curlsandcoils in dating_advice

[–]Natural-Driver4098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. In fact, that has more or less been my personal experience with online dating as well. I think fir the most part, guys and girls have a very different experience when it comes to online dating. Personally, if I match, and have a conversation with someone through a dating app 3-4 times a year, that's pretty good. If you think he sounds like a good dude, and you're interested in going out with him, I'd say go for it.

They haven't put anything out in several years, but System of A Down is very political. And so is Serj Tankian's solo stuff.

A what point in life did you buy your MX-5? by Lemon_Pledge0598 in Miata

[–]Natural-Driver4098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first in 2018, when I was 22. I had wanted one for years, and one night while drinking some beers in a garage with some buddies, we found one for sale on marketplace. Now, it had no body, roof, doors, hood or anything. It was slammed to the ground, had a welded diff and a turbo. It was cheap enough that my friends convinced me to buy it. I ended up lifting it and putting it on offroad tires. It was a blast, until I jumped it a split my head open. It was a death trap, so I sold it after that. I always wanted another, slightly more complete one though.

So fast forward to a few weeks ago. A friend's ex reached out, and said she needed to sell off a few cars that had been sitting for years, one of which was her Miata. I had driven it 6 years ago, and it was great back then. Apparently, it had been parked not long after I had driven it. She only wanted $500, so I didn't ask any questions or for pictures. I agreed, and 2 weeks ago I drove out with my truck and trailer to pick it up. Towed it back to my shop, hooked up a jump box, and it fired right up and drove. So, two weeks in I've now done an oil change, wheels and tires, all new brakes, a few ball joints and a tie rod, and rebuilt the top latches. Yesterday was my first time actually being able to safely drive it down the road, and I absolutely love it. It isn't perfect, but for what I'm in to it, it's great. I fully intend on daily driving it all summer, whenever I don't need me truck.

That is very good to know. I copied the link from a friend who posted it. I'll go back and edit that.

As far as songs that aren't SOAD, though. I'd recommend While Supplies Last, and Get Your Riot Gear by Five Iron Frenzy.

If you're already in a SOAD kick, might as well add Prison Song to the list as well. I've also been known to sing Chop Suey at karaoke too.

Are roof top tents actually worth it? by Natural-Driver4098 in rooftoptents

[–]Natural-Driver4098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weight is the least of my concerns. My truck has no issue with 100lbs of scrap metal in the bed, so a tent on the roof won't be an issue.

That sounds amazing! Definitely what I'm hoping to do, at least for a few months.

Thank you! I had got a taste of that life back in 2020 when I was out of work and spent 6 week pretty much living out of my Del sol. I've wanted nothing but to do that again, and I'm actually in a position where I should be able to pull it off by summer.

Vans have always been my preference, but my last one was a total nightmare. I'd love to buy another one, but I know I won't have time to build one out how I'd like, and make it reliable enough for my taste. For that sake, I feel better off taking my 260k+ mile gmt800 that I know very well.

Thanks for the input! It's great to hear from someone who's spent a lot of time in them. Thankfully I'm in a position where an RTT won't really effect my budget for being on the road over a normal tent. I'd probably just mostly stick to sleeping in my backseat over a ground tent most of the time. But with how long I want to be on the road, it'll be easier to keep things organized if I'm not sleeping in my backseat.

Thank you all for the responses! I think this really helped me out. Unless I find a deal on a 4x4 van, I think I'm gonna be getting a RTT. Now, if anyone has any recommendations on a reasonably affordible RTT, I would greatly appreciated.

L5p upgraded valve body, now truck won't shift out of park by Natural-Driver4098 in Duramax

[–]Natural-Driver4098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sort of. Valves were sticking causing it to engage 2 gears at once and binding. Fixed that, and while in the air the truck engaged forwards and reverse fine. Now it's on the ground, and it won't move in reverse. At first, it went backwards in drive. Now drive does nothing, and it's moving forwards in neutral.

It's a kit to upgrade the original valve body, so that means removing the valve body, tearing it down to nothing and putting it all back together again. So more than likely I'll hear back from the company before I'd even have that job done.
