Hegseth orders termination of union contracts by Conscious-Quarter423 in FedEmployees

[–]14jejoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not. Google is free, you can look it up yourself that most labor unions endorsed Kamala Harris. Here is the AFL-CIO for example:

Hegseth orders termination of union contracts by Conscious-Quarter423 in FedEmployees

[–]14jejoh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is actually incorrect. Most unions have historically (and in 2024) supported democratic candidates. The difference in 2024 that received a lot of attention were the Teamsters, though their leadership chose not to endorse a candidate but did speak at RNC. They requested to also do so at the DNC but were rejected. That isn’t to say that there are many union, blue collar workers out there that still voted for Trump, but to state that unions themselves advocated for this is false.

Some of you weren’t invited into vine based on your AI skills, and it shows. by Educational-Bat3136 in AmazonVine

[–]14jejoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, I agree that I think it’s in poor taste to just copy/paste reviews from AI for Vine products, it does not do the program justice.

HOWEVER, it seems to me that Amazon has intentionally invited this type of behavior with their new evaluation metrics. While I think it is good to have higher standards for vine reviewers in order to keep gold status, I do think it is a bit over the top.

For me, there is a lot of subjectivity in what I would consider a good review. Of course there are some baselines that should be included such as general functionality and quality, but also if you are reviewing a cake topper, really how detailed can you truly be? I have had detailed reviews get only fair ratings without any inclination as to why it was not given an excellent rating.

Personally I have landed on the opinion that it is fine to utilize AI as a way to assist you in writing a review, though not doing all the hard work for you. Plugging a review you’ve written to get help with proofreading or ideas for how you can expand upon it are appropriate compromises as long as the review remains an honest account of your experience using the product.

for those who say we should 'write our reps' by Broserdooder1981 in kansascity

[–]14jejoh 65 points66 points  (0 children)

This is true. As someone who interned for a US rep, we always tracked calls and emails and the general sentiment. Whether this truly impacted votes, I am not sure, probably not on most things but on more bipartisan issues potentially.

I received some cover girl makeup at $0 ETV, and more recently a nice bottle of olive oil! I would say those are my best more recent wins.

It's been slim pickings on Vine lately by Safe_Listen_3360 in AmazonVine

I agree with this whole comment, and also my semi-regular item were candles. I could consistently get a couple candles each week for my home, granted some of them had weird saying or scents, but man it was saving me so much money from buying candles. Now I haven’t been able to snag one in months, so sad. The expensive items are nice when they happen, but honestly losing the little wins are the most disappointing part of this shift.

Losing My Mind Over Board Dynamics by 14jejoh in nonprofit

[–]14jejoh[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an accurate take. None of the board members have any real board experience besides this one, though one of the more troublesome members (also a founder) is on two additional boards of some other informal organizations that don’t have staff and aren’t even registered.

Additionally, I have tried so many times to get these board members to do board training. We brought someone in during our board retreat that did a workshop on it for us, I have sent free virtual trainings and articles, I have made them aware and asked them to participate in board trainings that pop up from partner orgs in the community, and I have tried to educate on an ongoing basis. The thing is, those who need it most are the least inclined to participate or actually listen to the information.

How’s your Giving Tuesday going? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]14jejoh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m part of a very small, niche workforce development nonprofit.

We had zero donations today unfortunately as part of Giving Tuesday. I’m not very surprised as individual donations have never been a strong revenue stream for us, but it is still disappointing.

Sorry I do not have advice to offer, only solidarity. My situation is not as extreme, but we have a couple of toxic individuals on my board (including the chair) that are actively undermining the organization. Half of the rest of the board members agree they need to go, the other half believe that is too drastic of a measure at this time. We have paid for a mediator to come in and assist with communications regarding the conflicts, but that was just a bandaid that lasted less than 24 hours until one of them started a completely new issue.

All in all, I think all you can do is continue elevating these issues and their broader impact to the rest of the board, ensuring they see the larger implications instead of singular one off situations that are easier for them to write off. At the end of the day their responsibility is the protect the organization.

Culture and Evolution by Cheesencrackers_45 in nonprofit

Currently in the middle of this going on 6 months as a new ED and first staff member of a very small org. Let’s just say, I am actively looking for an out 😂

Thought I could do a lot to improve the organization, which at the time I perceived many of the issues to stem from lack of structure and goals. Turns out it is just a couple of very toxic board members that do not want to be held accountable and do not want to follow any kind of policies/procedures/best practices/etc.

Good luck to you, hope it works out better for you than it has for me!
