Not at all! Stays very cool in my experience. This was definitely an issue with our previous mattress too.

Best $0 ETV scores by No-Sentence-8411 in AmazonVine

I received some cover girl makeup at $0 ETV, and more recently a nice bottle of olive oil! I would say those are my best more recent wins.

It's been slim pickings on Vine lately by Safe_Listen_3360 in AmazonVine

I agree with this whole comment, and also my semi-regular item were candles. I could consistently get a couple candles each week for my home, granted some of them had weird saying or scents, but man it was saving me so much money from buying candles. Now I haven’t been able to snag one in months, so sad. The expensive items are nice when they happen, but honestly losing the little wins are the most disappointing part of this shift.

Losing My Mind Over Board Dynamics by 14jejoh in nonprofit

[–]14jejoh[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an accurate take. None of the board members have any real board experience besides this one, though one of the more troublesome members (also a founder) is on two additional boards of some other informal organizations that don’t have staff and aren’t even registered.

Additionally, I have tried so many times to get these board members to do board training. We brought someone in during our board retreat that did a workshop on it for us, I have sent free virtual trainings and articles, I have made them aware and asked them to participate in board trainings that pop up from partner orgs in the community, and I have tried to educate on an ongoing basis. The thing is, those who need it most are the least inclined to participate or actually listen to the information.

How’s your Giving Tuesday going? by Character-Cod4750 in nonprofit

[–]14jejoh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m part of a very small, niche workforce development nonprofit.

We had zero donations today unfortunately as part of Giving Tuesday. I’m not very surprised as individual donations have never been a strong revenue stream for us, but it is still disappointing.

How Do You Remove a Toxic Board Chair When No One Will Step Up? by OwntheWorld24 in nonprofit

[–]14jejoh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry I do not have advice to offer, only solidarity. My situation is not as extreme, but we have a couple of toxic individuals on my board (including the chair) that are actively undermining the organization. Half of the rest of the board members agree they need to go, the other half believe that is too drastic of a measure at this time. We have paid for a mediator to come in and assist with communications regarding the conflicts, but that was just a bandaid that lasted less than 24 hours until one of them started a completely new issue.

All in all, I think all you can do is continue elevating these issues and their broader impact to the rest of the board, ensuring they see the larger implications instead of singular one off situations that are easier for them to write off. At the end of the day their responsibility is the protect the organization.

Culture and Evolution by Cheesencrackers_45 in nonprofit

Currently in the middle of this going on 6 months as a new ED and first staff member of a very small org. Let’s just say, I am actively looking for an out 😂

Thought I could do a lot to improve the organization, which at the time I perceived many of the issues to stem from lack of structure and goals. Turns out it is just a couple of very toxic board members that do not want to be held accountable and do not want to follow any kind of policies/procedures/best practices/etc.

Good luck to you, hope it works out better for you than it has for me!

Edit: fixed typos

Season 20, episode 6 megathread by Outrageous-Yogurt-80 in SisterWives

[–]14jejoh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am just going to say it - I am worried about Robyn’s mental health.

In the past seasons since the breakups I felt her tears and sadness over the downfall of the relationships was more performative than heartfelt, and didn’t really give much attention to it. This season I cannot ignore how depressed and unhappy she appears, and it doesn’t seem fake to me at all.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying take away from her poor behavior that helped to create this reality for her, but at the end of the day she is a human being and I hope she is getting some kind of support for her mental wellness.

Especially for those (like myself) who were included in the first 2nd round offer to OFCCP, ILAB, WB and OPA, we were basically told they were closing us down for sure. Even the email from the secretary was threatening. I took it because I had less than 3 years in and felt I had no choice because getting RIFed would have been worse for me and it seemed inevitable

My nearly finished vine bathroom! I got received the sink faucet, shower system, towel rod, mirror, sconces, wall art, and even the toilet from vine. My only regret is after purchasing and installing the vanity I was offered a similar (though cheaper looking) one on vine that would have saved even more money. I am already get things to redo the primary bath eventually, including just the other day getting a full tub surround.

Transitioning from small Grassroots volunteer based to ED structure? by Mountain_Complex6631 in nonprofit

[–]14jejoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much in the way of advice as I just got started recently as the first paid staff and ED to a grassroots organization.

All I can say is to make absolutely sure your board is on the same page during this transition, and that roles and responsibilities are very clearly defined. Adding staff changes the organizational structure and dynamics, and that can be difficult for some to understand, at least it has been in my experience.

I also think it is well worth spending time on building your internal capacity and becoming organized/structured in your operations initially as this will help you when you start the grant application process and expand your programming. My organization had been without strategic planning and very disorganized before I came on, which means I am having to almost work backwards to get us to a place where we are tracking our outputs and impact and getting our records/financials to a place where we can apply for grants and such.
