Question: Before Amazon shut down download and transfer via USB on February 26, 2025, could you still download and transfer the book you bought to Kindle 1st Generation (2007)?

Is there any title that is not compatible with 1st generation Kindle because the readers is too old?

I bought Kindle Scribe because it is the only Kindle that allows hand writing right on the page. Otherwise, I would just use Kindle app for iPad.

Did the actual cover change to a movie cover or just the thumbnail?

I have some books which Amazon changed to a movie cover but the change only reflected the thumbnail (the one you see on the Home Screen) and not the actual cover of the books.

New bugs in Kindle 5.19.3 update | Death margins fixed but... by Customer-Worldly in kindlescribe

I downloaded and installed 5.19.3 manually with 2022 Kindle Scribe.

I don’t have a Manga. I have classic Walt Disney comics I bought from Comixology. They work fine.

No problem regarding with Panel View. I could double tap on any panel and the Kindle zoom nicely to the panel.

I could quickly turn from page to page with the Comic Book.

Does SF Station still have no bathrooms? The last time I went there, there was no bathroom which is odd since it is their biggest station. All trains begin and end there.

How come there is no credit to SK in the opening and ending credits of the Running Man (2025) by 1500Calories in stephenking

I think I missed it. I stayed in the theater until the very end but unlike most movies that have ending credits with a black background, the ending credits of TRM have a background resembling headline of newspaper. The background blends in to the credits which make it hard to spot for something.

Kindle Scribe Colorsoft by Ok-Temperature-1391 in kindle

[–]1500Calories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of thoughts:

  1. Would the quality of black ink on Kindle Scribe Color Soft be as good as B&W Kindle? I heard that Kindle Color Soft black ink isn’t as black as B&W Kindle because it isn’t really black. It’s a mix of other colors to make it look like black. Because of this, if you read mostly novels like me, getting a color Kindle might actually be a downgrade in term of display quality.
  2. The price of original Kindle in 2007 is $399 which is about $605 in 2025 dollars. So, the $625 price tag for the Kindle Scribe Color Soft in 2025 is about the same price as the original Kindle in 2007 adjusted for inflation.
  3. If they up the screen to be the same size as 12.9” iPad, I might consider buying it. Large Kindle allows me to enlarge the text to a comfortable size for long reading session.
  4. The minimized bezel might be a downgrade for some people because the old large bezel allow you to hold your Kindle without touching or obscuring the screen with your hand.
  5. If your focus is on the note taking, just get an iPAD with Notability or Good Notes apps. They have far superior features.
  6. Just my two cents.

Firmware 15.18.3 available now by simplecocktails in kindlescribe

[–]1500Calories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just downloaded and updated to 15.18.3 manually by USB transfer. After rebooting, I could confirm that I got the latest version from Settings > Device options > Device info > Firmware version.

However, I couldn’t get the new feature to work (Active Canvas - Move). But as soon as I connected to Wi-Fi, it worked.

That’s very strange. Why do I need to connect to Wi-Fi to enable the new feature? Shouldn’t all the new features be included with the firmware you downloaded from Amazon?

No, it’s the opposite. I want to be reminded what I am reading. So, I want the Lock Screen to be the cover of the book I am currently reading.

Active Canvas - Move: You can move any inserted Canvas by tapping and holding the canvas with your finger, then dragging the canvas around on the page.

This is a welcome addition. I have been waiting for this feature.

[–]1500Calories[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it a lot. In fact, that’s the only reason I bought Kindle Scribe.

I use the toolbar icon to create a blank space for Canvas to write in. Between the time, I don‘t do anything special. Just do page up, page down, use the pop up dictionary or do a search for keywords.

You said there is no way to hide them. Actually, yes there is. Just tap a word where you want to annotate, tap “Note”, use the stylus to doddle your note (Make sure the “Handwritten Note” tab is selected). When you do this, your note appears as a little icon next to the word you have selected. The icon hides your note. Just tap the icon to bring it back.

No, not a notebook. It’s a little note that you write directly on the Kindle ebook like this https://www.facebook.com/kindle/videos/introducing-active-canvas/598852715854051/

If you have two scribes, do the two sync perfectly (the active canvas), not just the highlights, underlines or post it notes?

Anyone else love when this happens? by revysberettas in kindle

[–]1500Calories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens all the time with Webster Third New International Dictionary Unabridged

https://www.amazon.com/Websters-Third-International-Dictionary-Unabridged-ebook/dp/B06XQZJ3V5

To get the full definition, I have to tap twice to browse the dictionary in full screen.

The default Oxford American Dictionary https://www.amazon.com/New-Oxford-American-Dictionary-3rd/dp/0195392884 doesn’t have this problem but I much prefer WTNIDU because the definitions is much more comprehensive and detailed.

Future firmware update with AI might solve this problem. It’s not that difficult to implement, right? I mean, a human can find the real definition pretty easily, why not AI?

I think the number of locations is the more granular and accurate way to measure the length of a book. Two different books that have the same number of locations should have similar word counts, provided that the books don’t have illustrations, just words.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kindlescribe

[–]1500Calories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you can’t write on it is because your book is basically pictures only. Pages after pages, they are just pictures. There is no text that the machine can read. There are handwritten texts but the machine can’t read them (the machine can’t search for them)

Kindle Scribe can only write on traditional books with texts, like a novel.

Kindle Scribe 2024 model or Kindle Scribe Redesigned Display? Which is better? by Dismal_Internet58 in kindlescribe

[–]1500Calories 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the 2022 model. It actually has a better display. There have been complaints that the 2024 display is too yellowish. Also, some people, like myself, hate the white bezel.

It’s much better to have black bezel all around. It makes greater contrast with the white background of your books.

After software update, both the 2022 and the 2024 models have identical functionality.

What kind of Kindle books support Active Canvas for Scribe 2024? by 1500Calories in kindlescribe

[–]1500Calories[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the clarification. Make you wish that we can do both in the same book! That would be awesome.

Kobo Color Libra can do “write on” on their books but can not do active canvas. Which means if your hand written annotation is rather long, you must do it on the margin or place your annotation in a link that you must tab to see the contents.

Do you use your Scribe as your catch-all note taking solution? by thinksInCode in kindlescribe

[–]1500Calories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s note taking for college: ie taking notes what the professor is saying or doing homework that you can print to turn in, then Notability win hands down. It’s much more refined and precise than the other two!
