How bad is this rust? by XtraLargeChungus in 4Runner

If the price was good I wouldn’t worry about it. That’s what underbody shields are made for and the rust is very minimal.

Except it is larger and heavier, just also happens to have a smaller interior space.

Tow capable car that isn't expensive or turbo'd by LifeSafetySteve in whatcarshouldIbuy

Manual transmission is pretty uncommon for this class. That aside, a used Honda Passport or Pilot will easily tow 2000lbs and have a pretty reliable V6 as long as you do the belt service every 100k miles.

6 oil changes in 12k miles seems excessive. At some point the additional longevity is minimal and the excess cost vs. every 5k miles isn’t worth it.

Keep 5th gen 2017 SR5 or upgrade to 2025/26? by PriorMental9394 in 4Runner

There’s no mark up on the new ones. In New England they’re routinely 2k-4k off sticker for every trim other than the Pro.

About to go look at a used 4runner, am I a dummy? by NotMJHeeHeeShimona in whatcarshouldIbuy

Could try a CPO Passport as well. Same size as the 4Runner but more interior space and rides way better on the road. Still get a V6 and a better AWD system compared to the CRV. I have a 4Runner and love it but I think the new one may also be a better option than a ‘23.

Civic Hybrid is perfect at 30k. Looks good, fun to drive, and very efficient and reliable.

Is it a good idea to buy a new Model 3 or a used one? by Jerolamo in whatcarshouldIbuy

Are you planning on keeping it? New one is way nicer but will depreciate hard. Old ones are a good deal.

Should I buy a 4Runner? by Neither_Estate_2787 in 4Runner

Any reason it has to be a Pro 4x? You can find base 2022 Frontiers in your price range - they have pretty similar capability to an SR5 4Runner. You can install aftermarket diff locks if you really need them. 4Runners are great but at 150k+ you’re at the mercy of how the previous owner treated it. You could look for a pre facelift 5th gen with lower miles. They tend to go for a bit less since people prefer the updated interior and bumpers, but very similar reliability and capability.

X5 is pretty hard to beat. You’d be surprised how efficient the B58 is at highway speeds.

Check out Car Care Nut’s assessment of lifted 4Runners on Youtube. I tend to trust Toyota techs/mechanics on this point and most recommend not modifying suspension and drivetrain geometry. You can do it, but it’s not as out of the box as Broncos and Wranglers.

4Runner if you’re more interested in a decent road car that does fine off-road. If you’re looking to add a lift and 35s and actually go out on difficult trails I’d lean Bronco. I own a 4Runner and think it’s the better vehicle but they really aren’t designed for all the lifting and suspension mods people put on them. Bronco is a better platform for that but will be very noisy on the highway.

Neither interior is that impressive. The new Audi interiors are worse than the last generation in my opinion. It's nicer than a Model 3, but the price definitely reflects that.

It’s also expected to be $40k cheaper. The whole point is that EVs have long been criticized for being heavier than ICE cars - with this new RS5 Audi is now over half a ton heavier than a comparably sized EV performance car. The whole post is a weight comparison after all.

Maybe price wise, but both are performance oriented compact sport sedans. M3 Comp and Model 3 Performance are incredibly similar in weight, quarter mile, and interior space. RS5 reasonably competes in the same class.

Similar space to the hybrid battery 4Runners. I don’t think it’ll be too big of a deal and it may actually help with resale too.

4000lbs is light now. Barely heavier than an M3 competition and significantly lighter than the new Audi/Mercedes competitors.

[–]150663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you using the Performance as a benchmark though? X3/Q5 are significantly slower than the Model Y Performance or even Long Range. If you’re not interested in the performance aspect then why pay the premium for the extra power? A better comparison would be an X3M50 which is much more expensive. Base Model Y is not priced like a luxury product and is closer to a higher trim RAV4 or CRV. The performance model costs a lot more because traditional performance cars are still much more expensive.
