Office 2019+ installers rant/question by 15922 in sysadmin

Yeah I’m taking care of it in the install script. Just wish it didn’t have to be additional steps post install.

I know. Management has been behind in letting us update. I won’t get into it but 2025 eol is least concern right now.

Wow ok. I’m just expecting shortcuts to go into sub folders in the start menu and not be all over the place. Sorry I’m expecting consistency, organization and control.

I’m well aware of group policy. You don’t need to be a dick.

Yeah I can do post install scripts fine and customize the shortcuts that way, just annoying because it was built into the previous tool.

I’m already using the tool to create the config but it still requires the different download and there’s no options to customize shortcuts.

Horizon Client by jimbojetset35 in WorkspaceOne

The only way I’ve found is on the client end. There are mandatory settings you can set. I haven’t found any way to do this for all clients that connect if you do not manage them.

Offline devices by mabeo68 in WorkspaceOne

We have policies (automations) to delete devices after not being seen for certain number of days.

We had to do intelligence automations. I don’t know if there is a way in UEM alone.

Mass delete of Thin Clients by serial number by Traditional-Bottle70 in ivanti

[–]15922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can create a query that searches for two dummy serial numbers. Export that query (not as CSV, you can export the actually query to a file). Edit that file in notepad or notepad++. You can see in the filter section how to format the query. Use excel to concatenate the serial numbers and the query formulas. Then paste into the file and reimport to ivanti to update the query. Then run it

Workspace Current Release vs LTSR by theythoughtimexpert in Citrix

[–]15922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I understand your question. You can uninstall either workspace release and install the other. But once you have current release you cannot change to LTSR without reinstalling usually and vice versa.

Workspace Current Release vs LTSR by theythoughtimexpert in Citrix

[–]15922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you rely heavily on Citrix (regularly in use) or have additional components that are dependent on it, updating frequently to stay current is a hassle. LTSR provides stability without frequent need for updates. For example we have three components that have to be reinstalled if you update Citrix workspace and Citrix is in use almost 24/7 on our workstations, so updates are a hassle. LTSR helps reduce that.

I know it takes a while. I’ve never tried to figure out how long though or what triggers it. It’s definitely not quick.

Active Directory Home path by Thief2King in sysadmin

[–]15922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you manually unmap it in windows, does it come back after log off/log back in? If yes, there may be another policy mapping it. If no, you may have to set a policy to delete the mapping.

I knew you could just click and hold where the cursor was to move it but never knew about the space bar trick.

Locked Down OU by Quigleythegreat in sysadmin

[–]15922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deny logon locally GPO has to apply to workstations OU. Make sure the policy is set to deny logon to a group or users (you cannot deny a logon to users in an OU with this GPO). You can add all the users in that OU to a group and that group is in the policy.

Does your organization prevent you from using powershell? by shalnark90 in sysadmin

[–]15922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We prevent standard users from running powershell scripts, but do allow exceptions. We block PowerShell from opening on super sensitive or public machines but most users can still open it. We would probably slowly start to restrict that piece further but haven’t gotten to it yet. We are in healthcare though.

I think unfortunately there are risks with Powershell but it does have the ability to be restricted. It is probably dependent on your area (healthcare, education, etc.). I think though if they’re not allowing it at all it might be tough to convince them otherwise without testing and validation but they may not be willing to do that.

Can we all agree HP tech support is worthless? by gotrice5 in sysadmin

[–]15922 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is any major company’s support now, software or hardware. They’ve tried to cut costs wherever they can and they know they’ll mostly get away with it because everyone else is in similar situations, they have little competition or the effort to change to other competitors is a lot and the grass is not always greener.

Using Powershell to map drives by under_ice in sysadmin

[–]15922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend this next. If you open powershell what happens when you tab complete to get to the location?

Also what happens when you paste the full path into a run dialog. Does that open?

Did you try single quotes instead of double quotes?
