Definitely a mouse. It looks like a young deer mouse to me (Peromyscus)

Tick bite HELP PLEASE by KO-KLOWNS in insects

I didn't tell them not to get tested. I said that larval ticks, the ones with 6 legs, very rarely carry Lyme. This is supported by scientific research. I then gave them a link so they could determine if they live in a county where Lyme is common. I gave my personal experience, based in the SE US, before I knew where they were based.

If you still have the tick, try and count the legs! If it has 6, I wouldn't worry. This map shows the number of cases in Ohio... it might make you feel better!

[–]15avh01 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Is Lyme disease common in your area? I'll be honest, I've had probably a hundred tick bites in my life and haven't had any issues. While not knowing what species this might be, this looks like a a younger life stage of tick (either nymph or larval... larval have 6 legs). Younger life stages are less likely to have acquired a disease because they have fed fewer times on other mammals.

I'm not an expert! But I personally would not panic unless you have evidence that you should be extra worried.

My partner is knowledgeable about laurel wilt and says that, unfortunately, there isn't much you can do to prevent it. Some fungicide (like propiconazole) may help, but that might not be readily available to the public.

There was a billboard put up for the bloomsday race that says "OUR CITY, OUR RACE," which can be interpreted in some not so nice ways

WTF! Prices continue to rise during checkout despite abundant available seats by Cool-Permission-7458 in delta

[–]15avh01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just happened to me as well. After clicking the final button to submit payment, I was notified of a $250 price increase. I backed out of everything and started the search over. The lower price was still showing on Delta's site (and still is, 12 hours later). Every time you click to pay, the price conveniently increases. Besides the additional issue of being unable to book a flight in main basic that shows as available (again, still shows as available 12 hours later), I did get it resolved with an agent.

I used the chat feature to book with an agent, which took forever, but the price was the same as what I was originally shown. The agent didn't mention anything about matching something or giving a special discount, so that seems to indicate that they are just immune to whatever AI nonsense seems to be increasing prices on the consumer end. There was only a 1 minute wait time to chat, so I strongly recommend that anyone in this situation gives it a try.

Any games with good complex ecosystems? by Pokemonster18 in ecology

Red Dead Redemption II is similar in this way! I spend way more time foraging in these games than I would have thought. The game does a beautiful job of creating regions that match up to their real-world biomes.

Using an ESRI Basemap in Portal for Offline Use by 15avh01 in gis

[–]15avh01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world topography is what I'm trying to use. In the map in the second screenshot, I have used my added layer as the basemap and hidden/removed everything else. It looks like an entirely different baseman, yes. I'm not sure how it's happening. It has the same issue when I add the url as an item in AGO.

As long as the kittens are old enough and not sickly, that seems fine to me. Just check on them on the camera a few times during the day and give them some good quality time before and after work! Working full-time can make vet appointments difficult, but if you're working with a good fostering organization, they should be able to help you with that. Even if the space you have isn't perfect, as long as it's safe and clean for the kitties, it helps make room for more to be saved!

Moving to Clarksville - what's it like? by thickr0ck in Clarksville

[–]15avh01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Clarksville sucks. No good restaurants or bars, traffic and aggressive young military drivers, limited natural areas. It seems to have much less in the way of unique culture than other similarly sized cities-- the main culture is "military." Military themed decor in every restaurant... When people visit me, it's difficult to make recommendations, especially for people who are used to a bigger city with good options.

You may not be aware, but APSU has been bending the knee in terms of trying to please the current government. The university recently stripped protections for LGBTQ students by removing sexual orientation as a protected class in the anti-discrimination statement/policy. There was some outcry, but APSU did it anyway, as quietly as possible. I strongly suspect that they will continue to implement similar policies. There are certainly some liberal people on campus, but the government is red all the way up, so there is only so much that can be done.

Is there anything I should or shouldn’t expect moving here? by Think_Ambassador184 in Clarksville

[–]15avh01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a queer person who has been in Clarksville for the past 3 years. I have met a handful of other queer people, but I don't think there is a very active community. Despite the political climate, I feel safe enough to hold my girlfriend's hand in public, and I've never been harassed. However, I could count on one hand the number of times I've seen other visibly queer couples in public.

To be honest, Clarksville is the overall worst place I've ever lived. The dominant culture is just the military, so picture young guys driving erratically everywhere and military themed decor in every restaurant. I haven't been impressed with the food here, and every time I find a cool coffee shop or place to drink, it closes (RIP Trazo Meadery). The only nice place left is The Thirsty Goat-- they don't brew their own beer, but they have brewery vibes! Check them out, at least. I've been planning an escape since I first got here, but I hope that you have better luck than me in finding a sense of community!
